On the men's side I see several people have had the chance to observe the men's team scrimmaging. Are the women scrimaging? Has anyone been watching how it is going? We have so many freshman on this team, I am curious about how well they are doing. This year's team will look so very different that the team has looked for the last 4 years. No more KK and no more C-mo.

Curious minds want to know!

I was thinking that yesterday. I figured it was better hearing nothing instead of hearing about some injuries. We don't need any of that this year.

Gbi since on the men's side we hear even
When a shoe lace breaks
It would be nice to get at least an occasional
Report on the women's pracitice
You can do that!

I'm going to the Tip Off Banquet tonight--maybe I will hear something there. Anybody else going? Anyway--if I learn anything interesting, I will report.

No exact details. The seniors and April Wilson sang the praises of the freshman, underclassmen sang the praises of the seniors, SV sang the praises of the staff, fans, admin, etc., and said this is the most consistent freshman class in her 8 years here--that they are all on the same page and all very team oriented, and nobody with a "me" mentality. Talked about how long we will be, great wingspan, how everybody is buying into the training regimen, etc. No real specifics on what has been happening in scrimmages. Sorry. Also sorry that some nut scheduled a math test for the same night as the tip off banquet and four of the players had to take it and leave early, so they started the banquet early and people were already eating when I got there on time. However, it all worked out okay anyway. Food not as good at the 4 Points Sheraton as it was the last time I was there for a wbb banquet, but oh well.

Thank You Luv

Thank you for the quick note. I appreciate even the small insights into this team.

I think this will be a very different sort of team than we have had in the past. I can't exactly put my finger on where I get this impression. Maybe it is from some of the interviews I have read. Maybe it is just the expressions of the kids in the pictures, or from some of the video of the freshmen playing in AAU games. I think this will be a blue-coller type team that is all business, and that has a go-for-the-kill mentality. They will not play nice with other teams. Less polite and more go-for-the-juggular.

Both KK and C-mo were deadly 3-py shooters. They were well known commodities that you could count on year-after-year. That aspect of last year's team will be hard to replace. The talent is there, but is the confidence to shoot and hit the 3-pt there? Hard to tell. Going to be fun to find out.

Re: Thank You Luv

You could be right--I am hoping/expecting to see more of a killer instinct than we have had in the past. SV said she brought some Navy Seals in to talk to the team, and that seems to have been a popular thing and they all seemed to have understood the message. And part of it was "..no matter WHAT your job is on the team, you do the absolutely best at THAT job that you can possibly do, because what you do affects the whole team and can change the entire outcome..."

I expect Ashley Morrissette to come into her own as a smart, savvy player and a hell of a shooter. Great talent there who needed a year in the system to gain some bulk and strength and learn plays, etc. But I expect her to be a star. If not this year, then next....

Re: Thank You Luv

I think you could be right about Miss. Morrissette. That would be sweet. I also feel that Miss Wilson could end up being a consistent 12 point scorer for us. She seems to have the tools and demeanor.

I think this could be a fun year.

It should be a solid year but there are still some key unknowns
This is where coach v will shine
We will have much need depth
Fashioning that into the backups to bolster our
Experience will be the key
I think this a top half of conference team
Where in that is the question and very hard
To beat out md for the top
But good shot at top 4-5
