Cmp - PLEASE stop going over top on EVERY screen! Teams are setting high screens a million times on us because we keep going over top! That MUST change. Our guards need to anticipate the screen and quickly slide under it. Especially when 30 ft from basket. Or switch every time.

They are rolling every time and getting easy layups and dunks or their guard drives for layup or kicks out for 3. I just feel we would be better off switching or sliding under the screens. Stay in between ur man and the rim at all costs. Giving up the occasional contested 3 due to sliding under the screen would be much better than layups, dunks, or wide open kickout 3s.

Purdue wanted to contest the three ball of Ill. There were times Trevion never moved back quick enough and held his help a bit too long. There were also times their big made a moving screen rolling down allowing the drive. That doesn't get called and so great execution by Illinois on that.

Purdue has some general defensive principles that it just lives by, and, that can be a double-edged sword at times certainly. It has served them well more often than not, thus why they continue to have and abide by them, but, there are times where it backfires as well (Wisconsin was one recently).

There are a couple of things that really hurt Purdue at times (and, it varies by team and personnel certainly), but, high screen and roll can really cause them problems with a dynamic guard and big that knock down the 3 (Michigan historically)...guards that can penetrate and either finish or dish effectively (Curbelo today)...help defense (you noted Williams today...Morton against Wisconsin...Sasha at times today).

The bigger issue is that it has happened in March a couple of times (multiple examples, but, UALR and N. Texas two of the most frustrating and memorable).

When opponent is 30 ft from basket - we should NOT be going over top of screen. Even at 3 pt line - we can better anticipate the screen coming and just slide right under it. Or just switch. Every team these days has dynamic guards and going over the top of the screen causes way more layups, dunks, or kickout 3s vs the alternative of sliding under the screen and contest if they shoot outside shot. And yes trevion hedges way too hard. He often just leaves his man entirely. Ughh.

LOVE this team. It's just one thing that drives me nuts.
