The schedule can dictate the conference winner. Need to win on the road.

IL didn't give us a favor today - those dicks.

Purdue plays @ IU, @ IA, @ UM, @ MSU and last conference game @ IL. Purdue gets IU & UM at home. Need some help with MSU and need some ass kicking road victories.

PURDUE SCHEDULE

so Purdue's remaining road games are against 5 of the top 9 teams in the conference.

Yes, all Purdue has to do -- is stay undefeated from here on out and they are the Champions.
Simple, right? LOL

To me though, their shooting away from WL will have to take a step up, or eventually Purdue will soon find some hardship losses on the road, even with the fantastic D they are playing.

I saw this too and the metrics on travel are fascinating. Would be curious how much travel we did before this....

Feel like Painter/Keady had the saying about winning the conference title is defending your home court and picking up a few road wins.....

Out of those 5, I think 2 are potential wins in Iowa and Indiana. Michigan State and Illinois will be the 2 hardest. Michigan is iffy in my book.

Not impressed with Mich D. But yes their size is hard for anyone to deal with. Illinois D can be good on D, and on other occasions looks porous. Hope we catch them right, but with 2 top 20 NBA guys, talents on their side

It does suck for the West Coast teams. I don't blame any of their coaches from bitching. Obviously, the decision to join the conference was made way above their heads. The schools will make more money and maybe their coaches will too, but when in the heat of the battle, I don't blame them for being a little frosty about it.

Yeah, we all saw this coming. Mick bitching incessantly about it now just gives his players an excuse for not playing well/hard.

In his defense, I believe he was responding directly to a question about schools having to travel out west. He was making a fair point, that if we are going to be concerned (which we obviously aren't), then we should be concerned about the travel of the west coast schools, not the mid-west ones like Iowa.

Believe me, I get that everyone knew this was going to be an issue. But I'm pretty sure if the roles were reversed we would be a little more understanding of the coach complaining about it in the heat of the season.

I can understand and have empathy for the players.....err.....umm student/athletes.....they didn't ask for reallignment and a lot of this, and some of this is ridiculous scheduling for the networks' benefit.

Purdue goes to the East Coast, returns home, and the goes to the West Coast for five days, returns home and has to play on Tuesday? And there are numerous other schools in a similar boat.......they are still students, right? and not all of them are 25 year olds....lest we forget with all the NIL packages.

Now for Cronin, and the other coaches - spare me, please. I don't want to hear it - you're making an incredible living and reaping the rewards from these re-alignments and TV deals - the Pac 12's big football powers wanted a lifeline from the Big Ten, and they got it - it doesn't work for basketball really, but everybody's stuck with it......this guy has worn out his welcome before the first super-sized BTT.

"What's your Beef, today?"

Look, I get that Cronin isn't a sympathetic figure. I'm not a big fan myself. I'm just saying that if PU was put in that situation and a reporter asked CMP about Iowa traveling to the west coast, we would all understand if he got a little hot about it. I'm not defending Cronin the person, I'm defending the position. None of the mid-west schools have anything to complain about. Our travel is easy compared to the coastal schools.

Yes, we all knew travel was going to be an issue. He was asked about schools traveling west and he went off. I guess I just give him more slack than others. He's no more of a pain in the ass than Izzo IMO. We're just used to Izzo crying, Cronin is still new!

I hear you, but this is too much well thought out, reasoned analysis for me to deal with on a Monday..... I have more clouds to yell at. Haha.

Oh, our fans would be complaining. But I don't think you'd see Painter complaining. He'd tell his players to suck it up and win anyway.

Yeah but also, unequivocally and for the record, zip em up!

I think the reporter knew what the response was going to be and he decided to throw the bait out to Cronin. We've seen Cronin throw his players under the bus already this year. He just creates headlines that overshadow how poor they're playing on the court.

Yeah, that's how press conferences work. Reporters want coaches to make remarks and they pose their questions accordingly. As I said, Cronin isn't a sympathetic figure, I get it. He isn't the best person for the message, but that doesn't mean the message doesn't have any merit.

In addition to the road game advantage Purdue has for the remainder of the B1G season, we've also played 1 or even 2 games more than most teams nationally right now. So we're due for a little bit more rest the rest of the way. Only 3 B1G teams (Purdue, IU, Maryland) have played 19 games, and only 3 in the Top 25 (Purdue, St. John's, Louisville) have played 19.

A week between Michigan and IU will be welcome.

A little more pain before the benefit though as we are coming off a west coast trip to a quick turnaround game against OSU followed by a visit from Michigan 3 days later (who will be playing on 5 days rest). That is 5 games in 13 days and 6 in 16 (including trips to both coasts).

If Purdue can get thru OSU and Michigan without suffering a loss, we will be in good shape for the final stretch.

Oregon had a week off practically. Hopefully Michigan shoots poorly as well.

I fully expect Thornton to bring his A game vs Smith. Ohio state has the talent to be very good, so hopefully it doesn’t show up tomorrow night 😂

In contrast, MSU has played most of their 7 conference games at or near home with NO trips to either coast. Also consider this...by the time Saturday morning rolls around, we will have already played 10 conference games to MSU's 7. Yes, you read that right. They have the whole week off to prepare for a trip to Rutgers on Saturday.

MSU's gauntlet is coming in February. In a 7 day stretch, they're at Illinois, home with Purdue, and at Michigan.

wow. Pretty broad spectrum of travel miles. Purdue should be pretty well rested heading into the B1G tournament.
I mean there's just no way to balance it. The teams in the middle (the original 10) are going to have the easier travel situations. It's just geography. Cronin can suck it.

Agree. For Purdue to stay in the B1G fight they probably have to win all remaining home games and get at least 2 on the road. That's not an easy path by any means. But this group is starting to look capable.

I don't see more than 4 losses on MSU's remaining schedule. A win in East Lansing would obviously go a long way.

I don't see Michigan losing many more, either. If Purdue splits with Michigan, they might still need at least a couple of Rutgers/Indiana/Nebraska to put on big boy pants and beat Michigan at home.

It's going to be tough. I expect Indiana to be a challenge in both games after Purdue embarrassed them twice last year.

If players are going to accept a salary, then they have to put on their big boy pants, shut up, and play the sport you are being paid to play. No excuses. If I was a Midwest team playing a West Coast school, I'd schedule all my games to be noon starters.

I know you're being a little facetious given the Cronin comments, but teams don't have much, if any, control over game times.
