OSU - Below their normal, talent all over the place but not at QB
Mich - Way below their normal and the team looked out of shape. Reminded me of a Georgia v Alabama game a few years ago before the Bulldogs went on a mission to get in shape, faster and then beat Bama in the rematch later in the same year
Iowa - same old, same old
Indiana - could be better but it is hard to say since the first two games were cupcakes
PSU - about normal but not at the top to beat the bigs
NW - lower and the whole team looks like a complete opposite of last year
Ill - a definite uptick from last year
NU - a little better than last year and has a very good D
USC - next up in their line of QB's, it's Miller time now
Oregon - down a little and could be alot
Minny - have not seen them play
Purdue - could be a step up only time will tell this week as the Irish will come in angry and nasty after losing to Northern ILL
UCLA - watched only a half and it was not good
Wash - a little down from Pennix
Org State - have not watched them yet
Rutgers a little up tick
Maryland and MSU - potential to be better

I thought our offense played like a well-oiled machine against ISU. I know the caliber of competition will go way up this week - we are 12.5 points dogs - but our OL, receivers and QB looked better than last year. And I think we have a better QB than ND does. Leonard Riley lost hat game yesterday with a horrible 4th qtr interception. Ten yards underthrown and two NIU defenders closer than the ND receiver.

ISU a slight step up from air.

Agree that ND’s QB isn’t great but he’s good enough to hurt us with the run and if we leave WRs wide open. All things we did consistently last year.

I thought the skill position players were good save one TE. I think the oline didn't move ISU as much as they should have.

Lots of teams starting new QBs in the B1G this year, 4 of them replacing top 12 NFL draft picks. It was bound to be a little bit of a downgrade.

Dylan Raiola looks the part so far. Although Colorado sucks. Besides him and the new USC hero, hard to say any of the new QBs look good.

Keeping in mind that they beat Western ILL last year by 28points.....

As soon as we can rid ourselves of the coaching deficit that we are in ,things will turn around. Michigan State played hard last night and there coach had his players in the right spots. Oregon had much more talent and has an amazing coaching staff.
Oregon could score 70 points on Purdue if they so desire.....
I pray that I'm wrong but the ugliest part of our season could start today......

I know the difference in a coaching vs talent deficit.

Our coaching deficit is so bad that the level of talent is moot at this point. Once we can get lined up, schemed and plays called correctly we could then assess talent.

Totally agree. What talent that is on the field is being wasted...
I never thought as a Purdue fan that I would be praying for a second year head coach and a high school coach to turn our fortunes around today........
Wow!

I mentioned it before that our motion plays seem to be not working and Purdue could use some misdirection in our motion calls. If one has studs at the WR and RB position and if the line is good it is not necessary but even the Blue Bloods are doing more with misdirection plays this season!

As I look at the past, the BIG 10 had a lot of elite receivers that made their QBs look good!

Purdue’s previous QB looked good because he had several elite receivers. We all know about OSU’s receivers. But Rutgers had an awesome receiver. Minny had addison. MSU had Reed. Iowa had Laporta. USC had London. There are many other examples. Receivers made their QBs look good.

As I look at the NFL, those supposed awesome BIG10 quarterbacks haven’t really done much but their receivers continue to succeed.

Another thing that Vandy had was a true dual-threat QB. I know that Hudson Card can tuck it and run when he's under pressure, but Vandy ran numerous plays that were clearly QB keepers from the snap. On Vandy's drive at the end of the game, they had a third and five that they needed to convert to keep Bama's offense off the field. Vandy faked a sweep to the right, the QB kept it and rolled left for nine yards. The rest of the game was Vandy in the victory formation.

I don’t believe the Vandy game is a good game plan to follow.

It’s rather obvious Alabama came into the game way over confident and did very little preparation for the game.

I would ask how Alabama’s defense performed against other mobile Qb offenses before saying that is the blue print to follow.

Vandy is 3-2 but in five games their offense has scored 27, 55, 32, 27 and 40 points. The week before they beat #1 Bama, they lost at #9 Mizzou 30-27 in two overtimes. In five games, 1-4 Purdue has scored 49, 7, 21, 10 and 6 points.

As to the title, some teams haven't played Purdue yet. That will raise their QB's ratings.

Ok, I’ll agree to a point.

In the past, Notre Dame ran a very successful option oriented offense. Baylor ran an awesome option oriented offense. Many schools have run many very successful option oriented offenses.

However, to be successful, the entire offense must be geared to that style of play. You must install a blocking scheme that supports that style of offense. And you must recruit players that support that type of offense.

When it comes to offensive linemen, some are known as pass blockers. Some are known as run blockers. an offensive lineman may be an awesome run blocker but a terrible pass blocker.

My point is if you spend 4 years recruiting offensive lineman who are primarily pass blockers for a drop back style of offense, and the replace your drop back passer with a mobile option type of qb, you are not going to succeed. You don’t have the right personnel to run the offense you want to run.

If Purdue wants a mobile qb and wants to run a more option oriented offense, it needs to start with their players up front and their blocking schemes! You can’t have your line and your backfield doing different things. They need to be in sync. And it’s obvious they are not on the same page.
