Purdue fans who are seeing this team for the first time this Saturday might be surprised by how big Jahmal Edrine will be.

The much anticipated debut of the Card to Edrine connection is nearly upon us, after a year of behind-the-scenes work.

He was going to be our #1 WR last year. They say he looks good in what little practice is open.
Did the coaches find a gem in Shamar Rigby?
He was a high 3* recruit, but was overlooked by many programs because he was part of a run heavy offense in high school.
Impressive that he came to campus couple months ago as a high school student and is about to make his first collegiate start as a true freshman.

I think they all looked great. Deep, balanced roster of WRs. Big. Good hands. I think Rigby has the chance to be really special, and he only got a few targets today.
That being said, it's tempered of course. Indiana State was really, really bad. While I didn't watch the first half, Notre Dame's defense is obviously stout.
Their D is good, but benefiting from A&M offense being bad. Neither team looks super impressive. ND OL is bad and QB can’t throw
Things I should have considered before betting the over.
The Oregon teams struggled or are struggling with the Idaho teams. Fresno State is giving Michigan a fight. Hawaii is leading UCLA. Ohio State struggled. And I don't think that Notre Dame has shown anything special against Texas A&M. I think Purdue has a chance against all of those teams unless they improve drastically.
Right now it appears that I had good insight into the assessment of the WR room and the perceived talent or lack thereof. The SEC transfers have been a complete bust....but I am certain they are making bank. "Bless your heart."
We have lots of problems but this has been my concern since the end of last season when all our receivers left. Everyone was so sure the SEC castaways and guys who have no history of staying healthy would enhance this offense. Maybe CJ Smith and edrine will come along late and provide a little bit of dignity for this WR room but it’s not looking good.

The lack of production out of the passing game starts with the piss poor pass protection. Rarely does Card or Brown get a clean pocket to set up in and go through his reads. It's drop back, take a look and start scrambling.
But, that said, Card hasn't done a good job of throwing guys open either. An example is that 4th n goal throw to Edgerrin. The dud is 6'3, 215 with a much smaller DB on his. You have to put that ball up with some air under it and let the DB use his size. Instead, card puts it on a rope, in a bad spot and the WR has not shot.

Card is gunshy to the max. He won’t throw it unless a guy is completely uncovered.
Is that because of their talent, coaching, and/or scheme? Me thinks the latter two play more of a role than the former two.
Probably all 3. I don’t think we have an Elite guy in the group but we have a scheme that doesn’t help get guys open and a QB who is gunshy to let it rip

Nope. Brohm was consistently able to scheme guys to look elite when they weren’t. These guys are good enough.
I would say not Brohm era caliber but a stable good enough to support a 2500 yard QB.
Throwing for less than 100 yards in a modern football game is disgraceful but we seem to do it plenty!
When pressure comes his way,he drops his eyes which causes him to loose sight of his receivers... We all know that the thing that stops pressure is completing passes and burning the rush. Where is Mockobee or love for that matter on the screen or RB waggle plays?????
I agree. The purpose of my post was to point out to the Kool-aid drinkers that made comments about the OL, our SEC WR corps, and our highly ranked CB's all being vastly improved was a paper dream and had no basis in reality. I made this same comment after the spring scrimmage. It could also be that the players have talent but that the coaches are idiots.........but I am convinced that the BOT plans to keep Walters around for another year.
Why do you think the BOT will keep him another year?
