I honestly don't understand all the "this is on the players". Painter never adjusts. He is totally befuddled by a zone or full court pressure. Subbing killed any comeback plus the standard momentum killing busted In-bounds play. We are down double digits and no pressure or change. He is a average coach at the very best. This is Iowa all over again but against lesser talent. 10 years in and we will soon be talking about how good we will be next year.

We're losing this game cause of horrible defense. We could have 0 turnovers right now, but giving up 53% from the field AND from 3 - you aren't going to win many games doing that.
I've stayed on the Painter bandwagon until this year.. But I'm falling off FAST... He's actually built the talent, but he can't coach it, unfortunately.
How do you know he never adjusts? Are you in the locker room or the side when he is talking to them? No? The only tangible thing we can see is the players playing and when they are on the court it is their responsibility to execute. Period.
Painter is one of the best strategic coaches anywhere, he can't suit up. I'm not saying he hasn't make mistakes in this game, but he has made very few. Subs look good, plays after timeouts look good (so far), combinations of defensive presence looks great, offensive rotations, screens, block-outs, look good. But you're right, out of bounds plays are in question and I'll add outlet passes and in-bound lobs
I wished I was surprised by this, but unfortunately it happens too much...uninspired, no energy, and no adjustments. I'm sure it will be better in 4-5 years, which is probably the next time Painter will be able to put together another talented team.

Lol...we have the Biggest team in the B1G and its the same game plan against us collapse the paint and we turnover. Have you really seen Painter adjust to this? This is a bad Illinois team with injuries and we are getting out played by bench players.

I seriously wonder why some of you watch when you take things to such extremes when we lose.
We are at the foul line and we shoot free throws great on the road. We are right where we want to be.
Well Pit I'm off the forum for a few days. It going to be in full meltdown mode with the posters that can't handle losing and only come around when we do. Be safe.
Wow. What a waste of time this season has become. Nothing like pwaking before January 1. No Big Ten title. We are historically bad in the BTT so no hope forvthat. Ho hum season. NCAA tournament (whoopie) and a quick exit. This university and these teams give people nothing to look forward to.
Big Ten is the best conference in the country guys, so don't lose faith. Purdue is the #1 or #2 team in the BIG TEN according to KenPom so have faith, there is still a long way to go in this game.
Which is what our current culture is and what our administration wants us to be.

Not true. According to our prez we aren't cheating nor spending a lot of money, so all is good.
only down 12, Illinois throwing the ball away,,,,,,, there is every chance in the world to win this game still. Painter can redeem himself with a few 3 point play calls. Ok Dakota just hit a shot so we are back in this thing!!!!!!
On a side note, kudos to Illinois. Way to hold a lead against a "good" team on a night honoring a legend at home.
P.J. Thompson is a really good player for us of late. I like his hustle tonight. We need more out of RD. Haas was a big disappointment tonight but overall he's alright tonight.
