Purdue Finalizing Game Against Arizona in Indy

Nice!

So we have...

Xavier
Alabama
Arizona

3 of:
Kansas
Marquette
Tennessee
Gonzaga
UCLA
Syracuse
Chaminade (Hope they give them to Kansas)

The only thing missing is a true road game. I'd kind of like to see a road game at a good mid major school. Get the team in a hornets nest against an underdog before March.

Im curious, why would AZ agree to a game thats on a nuetral court, but very close to West Lafayette? Purdue surely has a small advantage.

Didn't Purdue get a big win over a highly ranked Arizona team in Indy during the Jason Gardner era?

Because it’s a “neutral” site without being neutral. Need to have a fan base nearby. How many people would go see this game if it were in Miami in a non tournament type atmosphere?

I don’t really feel like playing in Indy has traditionally been an advantage for Purdue over the years and this is a great opportunity for Arizona to play a likely #1 seed. Best case for Arizona, they get a signature win and worst case they get a loss that doesn’t really cost them in seeding. Regardless, they get a nationally televised game and pretty decent exposure.

I recall several top 10 teams in the past would schedule a non conference game towards the end of their season. Since Purdue always gets out of the gates fast in November and December, and falters down the stretch, I believe a late season non conference game may be a good test and preparation for the ncaa tournament!

Nov - 2000, yes Arizona was #1 when Purdue beat them 72-69. Rodney Smith with 20 and Willie Deane with 16 for the Boilers.

Also, Arizona was still technically #2 when Purdue dealt them a third loss in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament ('17), securing 7th place.
That's right. I remember the 2001 season being very frustrating. Purdue was coming off an E8 appearance and started out looking like an NCAA Tournament team. But, Rodney Smith and John Allison went down with major injuries within a week of each other in January or February. And the bottom fell out. Purdue lost something like 6 or 7 games in a row and had to scramble to get into the NIT.

Both had a broken foot iirc. And yes it ruined a promising season.

The start of our 21? Game win streak

Yes - 19-game streak until that disappointing loss to Ohio State on the last-second tip-in. A few "banked" threes in that game too, but we won't go into that....haha.

That was a streaky year for the Boilers.....the only single wins or losses were the BTT final and the NCAA loss.

Purdue had winning streaks of 4, 19, 5, and 2 and losing streaks of 2 and 3 in going 30-7, finishing 11th in the final poll.
