George King took Purdue to the National Championship game in 1969 in his 4th season as head coach.

Lee Rose took Purdue to the Final Four in 1980 in his 2nd season as head coach.

Why have our standards dropped since 1980?

Most Power 5 schools give new hires somewhere between 4 - 8 years to win big in March Madness.

Why does Purdue not follow this model anymore? Why have our standards dropped in this regard?

Loyalty to something familiar should not keep

Purdue athletics from seeking a change to win at the highest level in March Madness (without cheating).

After all, we are fans of Purdue Basketball (not loyalty to a coach).

Why would a Purdue graduate put a space between every line in every post they make? And why would they create multiple threads with the exact same message, and that message has a space between every line?

I think we should expect higher standards from our graduates.

Too bad you care more about my computer skills than you do about

Purdue University's men's basketball program.

I type it out normally, and it looks like a mess when it posts.

I have no idea why it does this. Hope that makes you feel better.
That doesn't bother me, I was just wondering. But what about you starting multiple threads with the same silliness? Your cut-and-paste skills seem to be working. You seem to feel that it is helping the basketball program?

I started 1 thread with my thoughts about Purdue basketball, this thread.

The other thread was started by someone else entitled "The first step".

I started this thread because I believe it to be a worthy discussion topic with

information to share.

So, why were George King and Lee Rose both able to get Purdue to the Final Four

in 4 years or less while the 2 coaches since 1980 have been unable to for 43 years

and counting?
5-10 years is giving any new hire a fair chance.

Purdue is a tremendous academic school, but we could also be tremendous at

basketball, too. It just takes courage to find the right man for the job that can

deliver like George King and Lee Rose did.

1969 and 1980 prove this to be true. The End.

It only takes courage? Who is the right man who can get us there in 2 or 4 years?

I am sure he is out there somewhere, but a chance has to be taken on him.

Any of the coaches in this year's Final Four could work.

Just about any coach that believes versatile guards win in March,

a coach that can make "in game" adjustments, and a coach that can counter any

situation thrown at Purdue because he has recruited the correct personnel

(year after year) to do so would get Purdue back to the Final Four in a short

amount of time. Hope we are looking right now because he is out there.

I suspect several others are also looking for the same person. When there are very few who can do a certain job, what is their value? Also, how many ADs saw a future final four when they hired three of the coaches in this year's final four?

Maybe all of them because those coaches probably sold them a vision of how to get their schools to that level during the interview process. Nobody should be hiring somebody they don’t believe has the potential to accomplish their goals.

I don't know if that's really true, though. I remember how many people thought Shaka Smart was the answer after VCU beat Purdue on its way to the FF in 2011. He's just 3-9 in the NCAA Tournament since, which is a lot worse than Painter.
