… and he has to revert to hero ball or forced passes to TKR because no one else ( excepting Loyer sometimes) exists as a credible scoring threat.
It’s disappointing but not entirely unexpected when CMP made the call to cut Mason loose, in order to clear the way for Heide and Colvin….
It all starts with guarding the ball better from what Painter has been saying before/after this recent stretch. They started doing it for a little while the last eight minutes of the first half. Then everything got magnified when you just give it away on offense for runouts.
I don't know what the hell happened at halftime, but collectively, the team was surprisingly unfocused to start the second half.
I bought record for wanting Purdue to go under screens more than they do and have significantly less switches or trailing the offense player by going on top. I don’t know that I can explain anything to your liking. It is my best guess even though I have a different thought is my best guess that I believe Matt thinks that if you keep the rules the same every game pretty much that this process that he likes is consistent and you get better with it. That was the reasoning behind plain man anyhow was to get better with it as the season goes on however, I would like a few little tweaks to the Mann defense.

Furst has been terrible these last 4 games. Absolutely putrid.
Not sure what else to do. Go back to Heide and Colvin in the starting 5? They're showing signs of life but far from putting any fear in defenses.

I agreed with your predicted losses but now it's going to be worse. Team cannot play PnR defense the way it does without a rim protector.
That's why I said something is going on with him besides fatigue. These guards should not cause him problems. If they truly can cause him issues and nothing is wrong with him, then we can put any talk of him leaving to rest. Because these guards are not good and are nothing like he would face at the next level.
Maybe maybe not? Purdue will not be scouted as much as big teams scout them. The flaws may not be as apparent
We just played Berg today and he looked absolutely horrible.

It wouldn't take much scouting to see what we want to do. We aren't that complicated of a team.
Only his 5th foul was bogus? Lots of bogus calls today on several different players. Just not against anyone wearing a white jersey. Sure, we played poorly in stretches, but every time we started to make a run...there was yet another whistle.

He does change but pretty slowly.
I suspect he will change on the portal. I doubt he changes much on doing one thing and doing it very well. That's just his baseline worldview and that doesn't change for most people for good or bad.

I agree he will probably change his stance on the portal. Maybe not as quickly as we want, but I think he will come around to that.
He is very adamant that "process based" is the way to go. I can't argue with that when you are winning and your process is working. But you have to be ready to pivot when it isn't. In that way I think he is slow to adapt because the current "process" is all they practice.
Oh, you can quickly see tendencies of some players, but you can’t look at a film and see how strong or quick they are and depending on which games you see, they may be representative of what you’re able to do or what you’re not able to do if you try to mimic another team play against them. If you guess correctly and your estimation of the speed, the quickness and strength who really shoots and who doesn’t who can who can’t if you if you do that correctly and your team makes the strength of the team that you see playing against Purdue that is a good film session. Otherwise there’s gonna be some guesses until you really get out on the court and learn at that point in time if you see the Michigan game first with their size you get baby one impression if you see the IU game you may get a different depression with size at least this last game. There’s always some gas work but grouping the three players grouping the ball screens with Trey with Brandon that will be hard to scout.
you and me, we both said 9 loses and being around 5th in the BIG10, so I was psyched a bit w/ some wins vs the bottom feeders
As an attorney I am absolutely 100 percent process based. I told the attorneys I supervised it wasn't great to win a case they were supposed to win if their process sucked and it wasn't bad to lose a case if their process was good.
I agree with you though that the implicit assumption is that the process itself works.
Can’t recall if a foul led to Ballo making one FT or not. StillIve already listed why Matt might do what Matt did concerning Berg in this game. Berg wasn’t the problem today
If you don't pressure Smith and allow him to free flow out there, then yes, he and TKR can be very effective. However, it doesn't take too much scouting to see how you disrupt us. Smother Smith and force the offense to do something else, actually anything else, and we struggle.
I'm not saying every team we play in the tournament can do this. Obviously we will win 20 games this year so not everyone can. But there are certainly plenty of examples to see it done and it wouldn't take much scouting to find them.
Your client might disagree with the bolded! But seriously, I think we are on the same page. Have your process and work it to the best you can. But if it isn't working you must be prepared to pivot quickly.
Berg's foul on Ballo led to two missed FT's, and his offensive foul was a credit to Purdue's impressive turnover balance. At the rate he was going, he would have fouled out before the last stoppage in the first half.
Biggest factor, IMO? For whatever reason, Purdue players lost all poise coming out of the locker room for the second half - it was basically Colvin and Loyer......but way too late to affect the outcome.
They are what they are - now 5-4 on the road in conference - but this crunch time stretch has been a disaster for the most part......let's see what they do against UCLA......that's certainly no guarantee for a victory, and Cronin will have a more than decent game plan I expect. At least the Boilers should be used to the game rhythm - back to the Friday night game with FOX - get your earplugs ready if it's Gus again.
When the opponent misses need to push the ball and get some transition points. Walking it up for the half court offense is getting shut down for long stretches.
He fouled, then he fouled again on a horrible screen the very next play which led to a turnover and then he didn't play again.
