Purdue at Indiana: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Smith more than anyone cost us this game. When he plays hero things really go awry. In his defense the rest of the team is just Charmin soft. Miss Gillis as much as Edey.
He's just lazy and casual with his passes. His game lately doesn't give us a chance to win. Knowing you mean this much to a team, but don't play that way is just lazy.

Mr. Silver lining here folks, Fletch with 18 and finding his way to be more assertive and Myles Colvin.

Gotta look hard for something after this nightmare half.
I don't think there are any silver linings. Each game we've played worse.

I knew this game would be tough but what I expected was hard nosed focused play, win or lose.

We've looked worse today than any game I've seen the last decade.

Painter has to reassess everything going on right now because this isn't just playing good teams or bad luck shooting this is abysmal play on both ends.

Portal has to be a thing next season. This team needs a talent infusion.

I know it won't be popular, but I'm not buying the "smith is tired" excuse. We haven't played since Tuesday. He even sat a few minutes in the 1st half. No reason to be tired. There is something else going on with him.

We should be unranked by the start of the week and probably a 6 seed. Looking good down the stretch. This team will bail out in Round 1.

Agree. It's an excuse for him to look/play bad. He's just lazy when he shouldn't or cracks when aggressively guarded.

Summary thoughts on the game......

lol. Thats not even true. You’re pretty consistently there to hold his jockstrap no matter what happens tho.

I think some criticism is valid this year. 6 man class, no transfers, interior defense, etc

It’s clearly easier to comment when we’re in the meat of the actual schedule and giving up 20 points runs to IU who isn’t even a tourney team, than it when we’re beating trash opponents. Outside of Michigan and Alabama at home, we haven’t looked like a 2-seed all year
This is clueless on so many levels…

Who honestly thinks Purdue would be a two- seed after losing the 2x player of the year?

“Easier to comment???” LOL

The fact that you reacted so quickly to my post tells me all i need to know -

Congratulations— Indinia took a huge step today toward burnishing its NIT credentials—- Snowflake Nation are beside themselves with joy🙄🙄

Wow, mid year, I thought my prediction of 9-10 losses early was wacky.

But here we are.....9 losses.

This team just severely lacks talent beyond our 3 juniors....and Cox who is just young.

Beginning to wonder if starting Furst and Cox makes sense anymore. It's not working anymore.

Do we give Heide and Colvin another shot?

Smith needs time off. His play is getting worse every game and I feel like a decent chunk is just plain fatigue.
Furst just takes up space under the basket. He doesn't want the ball on offense making no effort to score.

We are playing better talent and physical guards just get up into him. Too many teammates aren’t offensive threats so opponents jam up the lane. Same problems all season.

Well he was at District Tap in Indy the night they lost to Wisconsin. On a date. Maybe he’s lost his work ethic.

Funny how stats can be misleading - at times, or how the game is fluid, and you never know......

If you had told me before the game that Purdue would get 16 off the bench and 11 from Myles Colvin with 20 from Fletcher Loyer - I'd think the Boilers would be in great shape.

Braden Smith and Trey Kaufman-Renn had frustrating games (17 combined points with 9 turnovers) - turnovers really did Purdue in today, getting Indiana back in the game, and they were downhill after that on both ends.

I'd put Smith off the ball - let Cox run it. They did that a little in the first half. Still not getting enough stops, either.
Starting to wonder if Braden was sick like the rumor. He usually gets more aggressive towards the end of the game if it’s tight, I never saw that. Overall, again, I think Purdue puts too much emphasis on defending a three ball and they need to shift more to defending the lane And pick a choose who they defend three ball on and the rest they slide under the screens so that we’re not switching screens all the time we keep the player of the player we want rather than other team seeking out the advantage they want.

I don’t think it’s healthy that other teams know we almost always double the post and I don’t think it’s healthy. The end of the team know that with the ball goes inside and it’s one on one. He’s gonna try to score because they could just delay the coverage and they already are not worried about it. They just play that even up if they want or double to last minute.

Yep. And as my 7yr old pointed out, "he shouldn't even be in the game anymore!"
For not kicking Furst in the nuts?

Interesting.

Leal wasn’t looking at Furst when it happened. Furst’s immediate reaction was to throw his hands in the air and complain to the refs. The next thing he did was bounce up and keep complaining.

I’ve been hit in the nuts playing sports and my immediate reaction has always been gasping for air in pain.

I dunno. It's cumulative. Four days of rest might not be enough at this point.

So what is the cylinder??
When it happened, I thought it was gonna be a cylinder violation, but apparently they did not think the Galloway entered into the imaginary cylinder that went around Trey Kaufman‘s freedom of movement. I thought he stuck his head in there and and created it, but you know it was a judgment call I guess just like the no call was underneath what I don’t understand on leal
