It appears those two bad losses to Cincy and UALR with NBA talent are kicking Painters backside. He has to be a little embarrassed on going zippo in Indiana.
If you look at the eventual starting line up for this year, 4 out of the 5 are from out of state. The lone Indiana starter even kind of got here in a quirky way.

Nice play on words.....but that being said our starters could be PJ, Cline, Smotherman and Biggie...so 4 of the 5 could be from Indiana.......

Sorry when people say negative shit I turn it into a positive spin.....

Take that negative shit elsewhere......

Oh and your on ignore list with the rest of the negative people.

Boiler Up!

Quite honestly I don't care where the kid comes from as long as we win. But that is just me.
Yeah I don't care either. I just pointed out how frustrated he must be with his luck in Indiana, didn't mean to get Chevy or anyone else all riled up.

There most likely wont be 4 starters from Indiana.

IMO, PJ, Mathias (ohio), VE (ohio), Swanigan, Haas (Bama)

He's had subpar recruiting classes (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011) in years after Purdue won an NCAA Tournament game, so I don't buy the notion that losing an NCAA Tournament is a major factor in losing recruits: it has more to do with the coaching staff and their personalities and ways of communicating (or not communicating) with recruits more than anything else.

michigan state lost their first round game last year also , so i dont think our loss had anything to do with jackson's decision. more to do with izzo's previous success

I don't think we get bonus points for using only Indiana kids. If you look at JJJ's history though, it's not as if he were a life-long Indiana kid anyway.

I'm thinking there is a generational issue here. Older people can't understand that the world is a MUCH smaller place than the world they grew up in. Being from Indiana does not make it as likely for a player to go to IU or Purdue as it did in 1986. These kids travel all over the country for AAU and are exposed to college programs all over the country before they are able to drive. In the 1980's if you lived in Indiana you watched mainly Purdue and Indiana games on tv most of the year. Now you can watch just about any game you want anywhere in the country any night of the week. A player was on an AAU team with a buddy from the East Coast, they can still communicate with each other daily.

I know my parents still don't quite grasp how it changes things for young people today. Hell, I grew up in a completely different world than these kids but I am young enough to get how it changes things for them.

At any rate, I get the sense that older people just can't fathom that in-state kids leave the state to play far more often than they used to.

I agree with you but was also playing his game of words......although I do see Smotherman breaking into the starting line-up sometimes....

This probably isn't a major factor with Indiana HS recruits, but Purdue is 0-5 in the Crossroads Classic games.

I like what Smoterman brings, but i dont see him starting over Vince. Maybe next year if Swanigan goes pro.

Since I'm now on Chevys ignore list, can anyone tell me what he might have meant by play on words. I have re-read my post several times and I'm just to dumb to figure it out.

Your talking about my dad. This week good old dad was telling me that we had a pretty good guard coming in. I used to try to impress him with my knowledge but have come to the realization it's not worth it. He gets his PU basketball news the old fashion way. Morning coffee with his buddies that also don't know how to use a computer. They still get there, just a little slower.

A bit of research into where recruits go compared to their in-state schools will clearly show that there is no correlation. Don't take this and run with it, but IU has no Indiana kids this year either. Louisville, MSU, Va have some, Butler has one, ND has none. I don't think NC is loaded with NC kids, nor is NC state, nor Duke. KY is not loaded with KY kids. MSU and OSU probably have a greater per-centage, but there are some contributing factors there.

Your good old dad may be onto something. He just finds out about the recruiting wins, not the agonizing losses.

You are absolutely correct. He never knows and for that matters does not care who we missed on. He only looks at who is sutting when the season starts. Maybe another life lesson that we all could take to hart.

FWIW, using ESPN top 100 for 2016 class, I count 24 staying at an in-state university. So far for 2017 class, it looks like 20 out of 51 that have committed have stayed in-state, so will likely end a bit higher than last year. But, I'm guessing that the trend has been downward sloping over the last 30 years.
