Wow top 5 for beating an over ranked Kansas squad? The very reason I hate early rankings

Yep, I think Kansas was ranked 3rd. Let's say we win tonight against Nova. My money would be that we don't crack single digit rankings and they might say it's because we are at home, etc. But if we lose, wouldn't be surprised to see us drop a few spots even though they are a tough team. Maybe that's just the "Purdue never gets any national love syndrome" in me :)

If Purdue wins tonight against a good, not great, Villanova team I could see them moving up to the 10-12 range. It would be a good win on your home court. If Purdue loses tonight I could see them dropping 2-3 spots for losing on their home court. However, that is decided on how each team looks. If Purdue straight kills it I could see them moving up into single digits. A lot depends on what happens with other top 15 teams. Duke, Kentucky, MSU, Kansas, Wisconsin, Creighton, Gonzaga, St. Mary's, Rhode Island, and Cincinnati all play tough games this week that could drop them or have them jump Purdue.

Purdue has a good squad that will compete in games and for the conference.

Would Kansas been over rated had they beat IU? Just curious what you are using as your reasoning for Kansas being over rated?
It's difficult to determine who is overrated/underrated this early in the season. Preseason polls are fun to see where your team is and drum up some discussion but they're worthless. Kansas could easily lose to Duke and start the season 0-2 and then go the rest of the season losing only two more games.

Right..so does that make them overrated? IU and Duke are two really good teams.

watching the game, I can say both teams looked meh to say the least. Just 0 defense to be seen. Maybe it was me tuning into the game late, but it was nothing but dribble drive down the middle or off the wings. Its one data point, both could be top 5 teams, but personally I think Kansas looked overrated.

It's really difficult to place labels on teams this early. I guess if someone wanted to call Kansas, Duke, and IU all overrated they could make some cases for it. I personally think they're all top 10 teams and possible Final Four teams.

Purdue shouldn't drop at all in the polls. A one possession loss at home to a top 5 team is not a bad loss. I'd expect them to stay right around 15 depending on how those teams around them perform this week.

IU vs Kansas was a glorified free throw shooting contest. About all I took away from that was that Blackmon looked pretty good coming off injury.

Purdue won't drop at all. You don't drop when losing a one possession game to a top 3 team. Even at home. They may even move UP.

I'm not a big fan of preseason polls either. They are for the fans more than anything. Just think about this years football preseason poll. They had MSU at #9 I think and we can see what happened to them, ha ha

Yeah over ranked then they beat the number 1 team (and clear favorite to win it all) next game. Nice call

Duke was out three key players and still took it to the end. Kansas is over ranked. It was a good win, but it is not as good as a win against Duke with all of their players that makes them the clear favorite.

Yes Duke had some missing players including the top player in the country, but they are loaded w/o them. They are going to be really hard to beat when they get Harry Giles back.

Ugh, come on man, credit to IU. They beat a very good team at neutral site, we lost to a very good team at home. No objective person can say IU didn't have the more impressive opening game. A lot can (and will) change this year but props to IU who took care of business.

Regardless of the rankings, these early season games have been good. MSU/Zona, KU, IU, Nova/PU, Dayton/Bama, Gtown/UM, WIscy/Creighton, Duke/KU have all been exciting. Hopefully, this continues throughout the rest of the season.

I don't think there is a clear cut top 5 in college basketball this early in the season.

Ugh, come on man, credit to my favorite school IU. We beat a very overrated team at neutral site, you lost to defending national champs at home. No reasonable person can say we had the more impressive opening game. A lot can (and will) change this year but props to my favorite school IU who took care of business.
Fixed it for you to reflect your true allegiance.

IU was impressive. Like you say, credit to them. All the better when we beat them.

Ouch. You are just so, so tough. You really know how to intimidate people online!
1-UK
2-UNC
3-Villanova
4-IU
5-Kansas
After this who knows.
MSU and Wiscy drop.
MSU could be out of the top 25 if it weren't for the Media/Izzo factor.
