PLAY CALLING IS REALLY BAD

I'm glad to see Purdue leading, but I must say I've seen better play calling at PeeWee football games where my neighbor's son plays! If this play calling continues Purdue will be lucks to win today or any of the other games!

The play calling handicaps them because they waste one or 2 downs every series, and that is a recipe for loss after loss after loss!

Of course the play calling is bad. John Schoop is the OC. How else could it be when he is calling plays? He jacked my Chicago Bears up when he was OC there.

It's unfortunate! As long as the coaching staff insists on Purdue being a running team they are doomed to failure. A running attack with 200 lb backs does not work in the Big Ten or any other major conference. You need backs that are 230 to 240 lbs plus a very big and mobile line, neither of which Purdue possess! So unless there is a change in philosophy before the next game, we best enjoy this one because it will probably be the last victory of the season!

They can be 200, but with other worldly athleticism. And while I like our guys, neither is tony dorsett

It is. The play calling is downright something you'd see on a 1990's nintendo game. It is just awful. One of the biggest advantages for a team that would not be as physical as its opponents is utilizing the tight ends in the passing game down the seam and in the soft spots of the coverage were receivers have drawn DB's away from the middle of the field. It is one of the biggest mismatches a QB can hope for. Every single good NFL player depends on this. Yet we don't. Tom Brady practically threw to the tight end every single time against the Steelers and they couldn't stop it over and over again. It is a terrible system being run right now. It simply cannot work against good teams. We are not a smash mouth team and are never going to smash a team that is loaded with 5star athletes that is prototypical in big ten play. There is a difference between being smart with the system and just downright ignorance. Not using tight ends nearly enough especially with a QB that is unable to read a defense. You'd think then the tight end would be a primary target routinely. Instead we run receivers into double coverages with the DB's jumping all the routes. Its been a problem for years. The passes to tailbacks in telegraphic formations happens way to much. I will credit the one tight end release in the end zone against Marshall that was overthrown. Best play call of the year. Tight end wide open (as usual) but QB couldn't hit him. And where are the slant routes? It is the most difficult route to cover and every time I am watching a good team they run them all the time in true receiver formations.
