Painter in tournament

Check Rivals... he is a 3. Others have said he is a 4 on other sites but I haven't checked. He is between a 3 or 4 depending on the site, so not exactly a decorated recruit. I think he could be good, but then again Tacos averaged great numbers in HS and some were pumped about him... or Stephens... or RJ, who some said in this forum would be better than Yogi. I hope he is great and leads us to the final 4 next year, but the chance of him being like RJ or Bryson (both ranked higher) is just as strong if not stronger then him being really good.
247 Sports and ESPN says he is a 4-star. I guess if you consider that he sits on the border of 3/4 star rating, you could say "fringe 3-star". However that implies a lesser rating. Most would say he is a fringe 4-star. ...and yes, we both hope is good!

Apologies for the ambiguous "fringe 3 star" comment. I knew others said he was 4 in some places. Just misspoke and meant borderline 3/4.

He's a legit 4-star. Rivals hasn't put out there final rankings yet & they're bumping him up to 4. Eric Bossi said this in a report about him about a month ago.

Cool, so were Scott and RJ. KS was ranked in the 60's. Burke was a 3 star who turned into an All-American at UM, so who knows. Point still stands that 2017 is huge for CMP for multiple reasons. Pretty sure no one would argue that.

Buddy Hield was #86 nationally.

When you're breaking down 16 &17 year olds and ranking them 1-125 (which is generally the 4 and 5 stars) - it's kinda a crap shoot for obvious reasons. Players are not fully developed by the beginning of their senior years in high school (when many are already committed). Obviously the first tier are clearly better than the 100-125 - but when it comes to the differences between people ranked #40 and #60, #50 and #80, etc. - they aren't that dramatic. You're going to have some that do well and some that don't. IU's had the most 5 stars out of any Big Ten team over the last several years and certainly do not have the results to show it. College basketball recruiting is cut-throat - you hardly have any wiggle room for errors (which are not necessarily anyone's fault - see Kendall. Kendall was a solid recruit, is a gym rat, has been solid in practice, etc. - just can't put it together consistently in games. He's done nothing wrong, just the way it works sometimes.).
