Pitt lost at Louisville 77-51 last night. Late in the game, Coach Stallings couldn't take a heckling fan any longer. He turned and responded, "At least we didn't pay our players 100 thousand dollars." There is always a camera or live mic around when you don't want it. I guess he got tired of his players having to listen to it. Best to ignore, but the burr got under his saddle. Wouldn't want to see CMP get into it with opposing fans on the road. Can lead to bad stuff.

That's an aspect of coaching that I always struggled with. There are words and phrases and insinuations and accusations that are awfully prickly. Even if that's what the fan wants. I'm glad I don't need to.

My son and I went to a Purdue game at Penn St. a few years ago and got tickets in the third row behind the Purdue bench. There was some jack@$$ sitting right behind Painter screaming at him the whole game, hurling all kind of insults and vulgarities. He never stopped. I don't think he actually saw much of the game. Painter looked at him a couple of times, but never said anything. I don't know how he didn't. My son couldn't take it and finally yelled at him to get a life and few other choice words. He stood up to say something to my son and when I got up between them he sat back down like the little weasel he was. Apparently the PSU fans in the area didn't care for him much either as none had anything to say to us.

Ricky Henderson was sort of like that. He enjoyed trash talking with the fans. In his later years he had a game against the brewers. and the fans near the front row were all over his case. and he exchanged trash comments back at them. He then went up to bat, and hit a home run. After doing so, he went back to those same fans and asked if they were impressed. He might have even stole a base or two that day.

At the end of the day, those brewers fans loved Ricky for his unique style and personality. and admitted they were not worthy.

Stallings only took the Pitt job to be close to his son that is in the Pirates organization. Unfortunately for Pitt, I think Stallings has mailed it in. I really thought he would excel there, but has done nothing but brought the program down. His days look numbered to me.

weren't you afraid of the other 499 fans there?

are you certain the fan was right behind you? With the echo in that mausoleum of a gym... that heckler could have been on the concourse buying a pretzel! lol...

Jamie Dixon should have had a job for life at Pitt. They had a coach that did an above average job at Pitt year in year out. It is difficult to imagine anyone can consistently produce better results at Pitt than Dixon did. I feel Purdue is in the same position with Painter.
