Although it's been a frustrating couple of weeks for most Purdue followers, sometimes we are reminded of more sobering situations, which can put things in a different perspective. The vast majority of us would love to see Purdue have more success on the court, but in the end, it is just a game......that's not meant to diminish the importance of it to so many and the meaning of it to the University, which for a lot of us on this Board is our alma mater. Nor, is it meant as a bypass of some well-founded criticism for the program and CMP.

Below is a short excerpt from the news article of Andrew Smith's passing....some may remember him from the recent Butler teams......prayers go out to his wife and family. It just happened to personally really hit home with me, and I thought I would share it.....at 25, I was still figuring out so many things......can't imagine having to deal with the end of life......

Former Butler big man Andrew Smith, a key player on Brad Stevens' two teams that went to the national title game, died Tuesday after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 25.

His wife, Samantha, confirmed his passing via Twitter on Tuesday afternoon. Butler also released a statement.

The 6-foot-11 Smith was a freshman reserve on the 2010 team. He started as a sophomore on the 2011 squad and averaged 8.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Smith scored five points and grabbed nine rebounds in Butler's loss toUConn in the title game. He spent two more seasons at Butler, then played professionally in Lithuania. He returned home to Indiana in 2013 and was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in January 2014.

My kids went to high school with the couple. This couple was truly amazing throughout his entire illness. They represent what is right in this world. Gone too soon.

RIP Andrew Smith and my prayers to the family.
I had no idea he was this close to the end when they showed him at the game just last month..

Andrew Smith was a wonderful young man. Prayers to his wife, and family. What he was a part of at Butler was the most amazing story, and he was a BIG part of it. And the class and faith and attitude he and his wife have displayed since his diagnosis, are an even more incredible story.

That horrible disease was I believe the same disease that Cuonzo Martin endured. I pray that the research being conducted at Purdue and in all the laboratories in the world can put an end to such loss.
