If the player cannot check both boxes, that would be a pass for me.

I'm of the opinion, to let our walk-ons go on scholarship. HOWEVER, if someone like a Gillis, somehow had eligibility and was willing to be stashed on the roster in case of an injury or something, I would be open to taking them. It would have to be someone who knows they are a deep bench piece because I just don't see minutes for anyone else barring an injury.

Gillis would be a great add. Knows the system. Knows the plays. Would be awesome insurance if someone goes down (but that never happens to Purdue LOL).

our team is complete. is there anybody out there in the portal showing any interest in Purdue ? it appears Painter is already looking forward to 2026.

I’d say if a guy like him knowing what they’d be getting into still has interested I’d say definitely add him

I believe there is money, but Purdue is not going to just give out millions or offer much playing time. I’d welcome some 5th year senior much like Duke added Gillis or like that player who came to Purdue from Michigan. There may be somebody out there who doesn’t have much talent but has a great basketball mind and great basketball heart. Maybe a basketball version of Rudy.

Or maybe a player who sustained a major injury. Purdue offers him a scholarship knowing he won’t play in 2025 because of his injury

On the other hand, rather than being selfish, and wanting a 2026 player to reclassify. And arrive early, I prefer they remain in high school. I want Ertel to stay in high school and enjoy his senior year. Win a state championship! Become mr Basketball. Go to the prom. Enjoy life. There is more to life than college basketball.

I think that the roster is complete. If the right player reaches out, you talk to him, but I don’t see a need to be actively be pursuing additional players in the portal.
