...but I am thinking Nova should fire jay wright!

It's well known that he simply is not a March coach. The guy consistently loses in early rounds of the tournament.

This season was clearly an aborration, why not fire him while they have the chance???

I bet they could easily get Cuonzo Martin or Brad Stevens.

Crazy is as crazy does!

I can see your point. If they can win one title with him as the coach, imagine what they could do with an actual good coach! You have me convinced.
Alternatively, he cannot possibly do it again .... so ditch him NOW and get an unproven or very old and somewhat proven new guy and start the journey all over again. twelve years is a blink of an eye ...

HIGH RISK = HIGH REWARD!!

Nova had too many players transferring out. That is a sure sign of a troubled program. OMG!

What makes the whole thing even worse is that the Nova team plays really good defense, and we all know defense just doesn't make it in March. Good thing the NC game was in April! (TIC of course).

Both of those teams play defense so well, I'm surprised that either one even made it to the tournament. :D

I'm so confused. After Paige hit the circus three point shot with 5 seconds left, why didn't Nova just inbound the ball with a short pass and stand there holding the ball until time expired?

I did wonder why Nova didn't foul before the 3-pointer. It worked out for them in the end, but we know that it doesn't always.

Nova did have some early exits in recent years, but Wright had 2 Elite 8's and a Final 4 in his 1st 11 years. Now he has 3 Elite 8's, 2 Final 4's, 4 league championships and 1 NC in 15 years at Nova. To match that, CMP just needs 3 elite 8's, 3 league titles, 2 final 4's and 1 National Championship in the next 4 years.

Was thinking the same thing but it just goes to show there are two schools of thought on the situation. It's prime second guessing territory........but the coach who won the NC did the same thing as Painter.

He didn't make the tournament at all in his first 3 seasons.

Funny thing is that if PU were to get that NC in say four years all the other stuff you listed would come with it and some other team message board would be having this conversation about Purdue and Painter. If he gets a few top level players in the next few classes it could happen. If he doesn't it won't. It's a simple game really.

The point is that if you were the Villanova AD you'd have run him off before now.
Really? I would?? Actually if I was the AD and there was a rebuild needed I would understand. I wouldn't understand the constant early exits from the tourney though.

Yea like the last six years he didn't get past the first weekend?

He had already proven he could go deep with an E8 & FF. Painter hasn't proven anything. There's a difference in being patient with a proven coach compared to an unproven one.

So if a coach goes to a FF you would never get rid of him?

He lost a recruit to Tom Crean and that was coming off a national championship season. Clearly the program is headed to another decline just like after his first Final Four. Fire him and get someone that can capitalize on the title!!

In historical terms prior to this season, who has the better program between Purdue and Villanova? Where are the expectations for each program?

Villanova has more Final Four appearances and national titles. They're obviously considered the superior program of the two over, at the least, the last 10 years (maybe longer than that). If you want to look at purely historical win-loss numbers, percentages, and such, here you go:

Purdue: http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/purdue/

Villanova: http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/villanova/

I will say many Purdue hoops fans' annual expectations are for each Boilermakers team to make the NCAA Tournament, contend for or win a Big Ten regular season and conference tournament title and to at least make the Final Four (NCAA National Semi-Finals) once, if not win the national title.

I love this thread! It really shows how little the negatwitts know with throwing arguments they have used in the past against them. And watching them scurry about now like little retarded barn mice is just priceless!

There are many more from last March that will soon be revived.

Rumor is that Painter is #1 on their list ... he has the most upside of any coach out there.

I don't even see many people calling for painter to be fired right now. These threads have become a circle jerk by the Painter cheerleaders.

This X 1000.

At this point, IMO it significantly diminishes the original point that was trying to be made.

I get that people don't like to be reminded of when they sound foolish. That's why these are going to keep coming up.

If that's the intent, then this post fails miserably.

The only people that look foolish in these threads are the people that are comparing Matt Painter to Jay Wright ... and I'm a Painter supporter.

At least pick a coach that Painter is in the same tier of. That's why these threads diminish the original intent.
