Does he have a leader or is he leaning towards one program more than the others right now?

I can def see both going. But Tillman will struggle to find quality minutes there. Bc MSU will recruit over him.

So let me get this straight: we are hoping MSU gets a top 10 player so they don't have room for the #86 guy and then we can get him?
Yep pretty much, we gotta start somewhere. Smart thing for Nojel to do would see what Trent is going to do before committing, but now a days I don't think kids process that through their brains and end up transferring cause the playing time isn't there.

Yes. Trent will be a one or two year player. Eastern will be a four year player and a perfect piece for Purdue. Not to mention, he is the highest ranked target Purdue has at this point. I feel Tillman is already gone. We have a chance at Eastern. Go all in on him. Once the early signing period is over, go all in on Epperson. Find a few top 150 guys that aren't highly recruited if you see upside. We don't need to sign 3-4 starters, we need 1-2 starters and roll players at this point. Start working on the '18 and '19 guys as well. The biggest and most important thing Painter can do for recruiting is to get into at least the elite 8 this year and get Biggie in the first round of the draft. Then the following year, get Haas and Vince in the first round. That is the only way recruiting will improve. Get guys drafted in the first round and make deep runs in the tournament. He had the talent last year to make a run and got bounced early and that hurt. He has the talent again, but we are going to start losing it if we can't keep recruiting top 75 guys. Now or never boys.

oh I assumed Trent was a power forward like his old man. He's a guard?

SG/SF. Also Brain Bowen is high on MSU too, highly recruited SF. Played on the same AUU team as Nojel, but don't know how their relationship is. Hopefully Nojel lets the process play out before he commits anywhere. He's our top priority, not so much for MSU with these other guys.

that's not possible often though right?
the final few guys on the 2017 rivals 150, i see vandy, cal, temple, washington commits, and the other few guys still have multiple p5 offers among many more mid majors.

The senior year hasn't started. There are going to be some late risers. There always seems to be a few that go under the radar for various reasons.

Yes - but Edwards committed in August of last year. A lot of those kids are off the board now also.
Right. When he committed he was a 'mid-level guy' as you are referencing. Our hope in this situation is that we find the second edition of Carsen to commit this summer.

I hope you are right - but my point is that summer's over. Edwards committed during the summer, like a lot of the top 100- 150 kids do. We are over halfway thru September now, and CMP will have to turn over some rocks now to find another CE.

That's the exact plan. Kinda like getting E'twaun bc another team(ILL) got a commitment from Eric Gordon. Pretty sure that worked out well. Or did it not?

You have a link?
Link for what? We landed E'twaun bc ILL had Gordon on commitment. ILL was a much different program back then. They felt if Gordon hadn't wasted their time they would have landed him. Also one of the reason E'twaun took it out on them constantly.

A link with any documentation that Etwaun would have committed to UI if they hadn't taken Gordon. I don't remember it being that open and shut of a case.

Many Division 1 players are yet to commit.

I'm with you on that...never heard that before. The region has always been strong for Purdue

How so? I admit to being pessimistic about football, but what else you got?

We've missed on some prospects, but how many of those did we miss on that were genuinely considering us? 1 or 2? At this point, Eastern and Tillman are still in play and I think we get 1 of the 2. From there, we still have some offers out to some good prospects.

Look at Haas and Swanigan. Painter "lost" on both of those before he won.

There's a long time left before recruiting is wrapped up. Early recruiting, and filling our class early on the other hand has cost us some guys that would have considered Purdue like GRIII and McGary. I trust in Painter to get the job done. You don't...and thats fine...but he's had a decent track record of finishing these classes out well lately.

Until he doesn't, i'm not going to act like he hasn't.

I think he's gotta start winning the big games in March and start getting into April before we win these battles consistently. That said, I think he's just as likely do to that as he is to fail. That's more than we can say for some of our other coaches and programs.

Is he still recruiting Williams or JJJ? You know Izzo and quick Rick would be if the situations were reversed.

I hate to say this, but we are not getting Tillman, though I am still hopeful for Eastern. It will become clear in the near future that due to personal reasons Tillman will have to stay in-state for school. We should put all we have into getting Eastern.

Im still not worried about this class nor am I a doomsayer like alot on here, lets just see how this all plays out.

Boiler up my friends!

I think we need Eastern more anyway. Hopefully he sees that too!

By getting some/all real late in '17 though, it is that much less time to recruit '18 and '19

That's where we disagree. Once they announce, move on to other targets. I don't want our coach to be like Izzo or slick Rick.
You gotta do anything within the rules to get players, or you are at a disadvantage relative to schools that do.

Besides, as Tark used to say, "now we know who the competition is!"
