Nic Scourton in the portal

No loyalty to school anymore that recruited them, helped develop them besides the scholarship and other things the players get, be glad when the money on NIL starts going down.

Further proof that we will be no better than a second tier Big Ten football team if not a bottom feeder under Walters.

As I said early in another thread it is becoming difficult to maintain my love for the football team due to the turnover In players. Since BB has has few portal defections I still follow and support them as a diehard. If that ever changes I will probably not follow them as close!

this is pretty much what I stated this morning

Well maybe you get a bigger bank. Purdue either adjusts or becomes a perennial doormat.

This is the first one that really hurts.

make that, under anybody. Like I said a couple of weeks ago, some of the doormat schools should join the MAC just for football ( call it the BIG MAC) and let all the others that throw around the crazy $ beat themselves up.

Eh. More like perennial 0.500 team. We'll never outspend UM OSU PSU USC Neb etc. But we can compare to IU, MN, Rut, MD, MSU, IA, NW, etc.

Honestly though, I'm not buying jerseys and shirts so some 18 yr old can make 500Gs and drive a nice car to campus. I'll keep my money for real things. If they want to use TV money they can use 100% of my BTN money.

No school is voluntarily giving up $70 million plus a year in media revenues.

Look at the Brewers. They won the mlb central division but nobody really took them seriously vas a potential World Series contender. They just said good bye to their second and 4th best starting pitchers receiving nothing in return. They have a starting pitcher who won the cy young award. And the media and other wealthy teams believe they will just give him away in a trade for basically nothing but unproven prospects just because they are the Brewers! The Brewers gave away Hader for basically nothing because they couldn’t afford to keep him. The Brewers are giving their star players a lot of money. And they can tell free agents they would receive immediate playing time. But no elite free agent is even interested in signing with the Brewers even though they were the no central champions. The Brewers are treated by the media as a AAAA team and not a real major league team. And other teams see the brewers as just a team to develop players And then allow them to leave and join the real teams!

Can you see the similarities between the Brewers and Purdue? If a college player is good and has dreams of playing in the NFL, he most likely now has handlers and advisors to get him the most money and best opportunity to be drafted.

Academics and loyalty no longer exists for the mediocre schools! Players either want to play for the championship teams or they want to play for the money!

If Purdue was smart they should have said no to NIL and taken a stand against it. They should have realized they’d never be able to compete against it.

And it’s time Purdue fans realized Purdue will never be able to compete in the NIL and stop dreaming of NIL donors and stop complaining about reality. I’d like to live in an $800,000 house . But I’m smart enough to realize I can’t afford it. There are a lot of $800,000 houses available and people keep buying them. There are also a lot of vacant sub divisions in California and a lot of people declaring bankruptcy because they thought they could compete financially and spent well beyond their income levels and means!

I drive a 2013 Toyota Highlander. It’s a nice car. It works. I have no desire going broke just to look better than my neighbor! Purdue is NOT as wealthy as OSU. It’s time they realized it and admitted it and stopped trying to be like them.

How is this Walters fault? Lol He's leaving because he is getting (500k) half of what Edey gets. Is Walters supposed to come up with that?

If team's are offering that much money Brohm ain't keeping them either. No one is. Particularly when we aren't willing to come anywhere close to matching.

500k and a new ride. Nice, but if he slips from say 1st rd to 2nd that's a hell of a lot more than 500k and a new ride. I'm biased as a Purdue fan, but seems like a risky move leaving a scheme where you killed it to a relative unknown (A&M has a new coach). I dont know, maybe he'd rather be in a scheme where he puts his hand in the dirt.

Makes more sense now that we got the GA transfer. Who knows maybe he'll end up being even better in Walters scheme.

This sucks, but it's the new reality for top notch talent.
No idea was Purdue had lined up for him in NIL, but if 500K is the rumor number from TAM, that's hard to pass up, no matter how you look at it.

That's what sucks the most about NIL. The schools with fan bases full of complete idiots who will gladly blow their money on overpriced crap will be rewarded by their team being able to afford to buy the top players. The schools with more educated fan bases, people that actually graduated from there, etc. who are frugal, conservative, and not total idiots with their money, will miss out.

Yeah, it is more frustrating because this all happened after record conference revenues.. but none of that revenue is going to the NIL pot. The schools just pass the buck down to the fans and tell them they have fund one more thing while the schools continue to receive media revenue.

I blame the blame where it belongs most. - the players! Scourton was on his way to becoming the Big 10 sacks leader next year and be a first or second round pick. But it wasn’t enough. He wanted his money now! He wanted to get as much as he could while the the getting is good.

Each of these players has a handler/quasi agent who is telling the player they can get more money by transferring to another school. And unfortunately the player and his parents believe these handlers.

Why did the player even come to Purdue? It sure wasn’t to get an education. Why did he leave Purdue? It sure wasn’t to get a better education or more playing time or a chance to play against some of the best players in college. He left for one reason - to get more money. And his handler is promising him he’ll be able to get more money. The only loyalty the player has is to money!

What is not being said is these people who keep giving huge amounts of money are going to start wanting back in return for their money. They aren’t just giving it away. Look at Texas A&M. Winning seasons were not good enough. Donors are currently dictating their desires to schools and ADs. In the future they may start dictating their desires to the coaches and even the players. A NIl reward may become a personal services contract. Players may have to start selling cars when not playing on the field. Or players may have to become casino greeters much like Willie Mays did after he retired,.

When an 18-20 year old signs a contract, does he really understand what he has signed? Or does he just accept the money and expect more will follow?

And has been pointed out, Money from schools and the BIG 10 network doesn’t go to NIL.

I sure hope his handler comes through on his promise. I’m of the belief many handlers have not come through. I highly doubt Syracuse was where QB McChord realty wanted to go.

Agreed, college football is same old/same old, I’m bored of seeing the Bama’s, Georgia’s, OSU’s, Mich dominate every year, not much interest.

Grades could be a factor in an athlete’s decision to transfer. My experience at Auburn was that athletic departments dedicate a lot of time and effort to provide academic assistance to their athletes.

Something that is not talked about much, but D’s don't transfer . An athlete is better off remaining at his school and retaking the class inn the Spring or Summer rather than transferring elsewhere.

Something that is also not talked about much. Athletes in other sports transfer just as much as football athletes do. Track athletes are constantly transferring to different schools based on coaches etc.

Any chance the portal entry could be tied to grades?
Saw a quote by On3 that joining a program with a “winning culture” was a big factor.

This transfer seems strange to me based on the numbers he put up. Hopefully nothing negative and it’s just money.

It is not about being closer to home or family. It is definitely about money. Looks like he is visiting Louisville. There would be no reason to do that unless they are going to open up their checkbooks.

Starting to think part of the move might be due to the scheme. Scourton may see himself as more of a hand in the dirt DE at the next level rather than OLB.

NIL reminds me of the time around fifty years ago when the owner of a magazine on Madison Avenue put me in charge of hiring the office's receptionist/typist. One young lady had a fantastic voice but average typing skills. The second one had a good voice and good typing skills. The third one had an average voice but fantastic typing skills. So naturally, I chose the one who was best looking.

Players transfer for one of three reasons: Money; to play on a winning championship team or a chance at playing team.

Maybe he didn’t like Purdues defensive scheme or the position he was playing. Looking at his size and his success in that position, I have to believe the position he was playing at Purdue is what pro teams were projecting him to play. I can’t see him adding another 20-30 pounds to play DE in the NFL. I see him as a pash rushing specialist much like Gary and Van Ness!

He’s already the prototype NFL DE size….

280 is rather light to play DE, but is a good size to play edge.

I noticed the 6-10 teams he’s considering. They all look like big $$$ givers. Texas A&M just lost a starter at his position when their coach left.

Yes everyone here knows your son ran track in college…

I really don’t appreciate people posting about academics on specific student athletes when it is pure speculation. Nic owes us nothing and has been nothing but great for us. When he shot up through the rankings after he committed and tried to get poached he stuck with his commitment.
