New #1 forthcoming?

Florida giving Tennessee an EPIC beating right now. Up 35 with less than 6min to go in the game. Looks like Auburn has a golden opportunity to take the top spot by next week. I always thought they were better than Tennessee anyway.

Wow, has this been a strange year or what?
The new norm. I hate to think that college will go the way of NBA and "you don't play until the playoffs", but who knows? The prior #1 record beat down was Houston getting pantsed by UCLA by 32 points. This could beat that. Georgia also taking it to ol Ken-tuk, if the dogs could hit a FF they'd put it away for good. two misses on a flagrant, and they were UGLY misses.

at one point in the 2nd half they said Tenn was 1 -23 from 3 point line

Strange in what way?

I can't recall a season where so many top 10 teams are not just losing, but getting completely thrashed.

Another (perceived) oddity is the disparity in 3-point shooting—some teams are shooting incredibly well while others are struggling badly, often within the same game. Take last night's Michigan - UCLA game for example. Or Iowa - Wisconsin the other night. Wisconsin shot 31 threes in that game and made 68% of them. Wow, what?

Don't know how else to put it...these kind of performances just seem more common this year.

Finished 2/24 and at one point were 7/47 overall 👀👀

Florida is very good IMO. Wouldn’t want to see them in the tourney

Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama, and Kentucky have been getting the vast majority of the press ink in the SEC, but yeah - don't sleep on the Gators - they look to be a really tough out. There will be some good battles in the SEC, and when UF is good, their home venue can turn into quite the pit for the opponents.

#1 will probably be Auburn. Duke will get some votes as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Iowa State got a few votes.

Florida is very good. This is also just a normal thing for Tennessee. They are a super good team but it always seems they have a game where they couldn't hit water if they were in the ocean. The SEC is just stupid good this year. Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, Florida are legitimate Top 10 level teams. Texas A&M and Mississippi State are Top 15 looking teams. Georgia, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma are all Top 20 and Top 30 teams. What's the record for most teams sent to the tourney by one conference?

Auburn, Duke, and Iowa State are all worthy of #1 votes. But of all those teams, to me Auburn seems most immune to a future 20+ loss. Duke seems most susceptible due to their youth.

At one point several years ago, people suggested that different conferences used different manufactured balls and the Spaulding balls had a different feel than the Wilson balls. And that affected the outside shooting.

But what we are seeing today are teams from the same conference.

My speculation is too many teams are too dependent on 3 point shooting and nobody wants to go for the offensive rebound and easy 2 point shot. Players just stand around and watch the shot and then run back to set up their defense.

Going for the offensive board and second shot is a lost art in college basketball

During halftime of the FL/UT game, the studio guys said that Auburn starts 5 seniors and brings 3 more off the bench. That's crazy.

Sounds like some silly conspiracy BS.

Schools typically use a ball of whatever shoe deal they have. I don't know if that's changed or not though. NCAA tourney will use Wilson. Most schools will use Nike, Adidas or Under Armour. Most schools in the SEC are Nike though. I think last night was just a case of not being able to hit anything to save their lives.

As I said this was an issue several years ago. There were a couple of teams in the Big 10 that used the different brand of ball and it was the players who were complaining the different ball had a different feel. And the team that used that different ball had a very different record at home .

It may have been total bs, but it was the players who shot threes that expressed the ball just had a completely different feel to it.

They all have different feels. That is true. And for a shooter, it can make a difference. The Wilson EVO balls(different from the GOAT basketball that's the evolution) are absolute pure garbage. They are the super bright orange ones you'll see at times. They feel like nerf basketball. God awful to shoot with. Nike, Adidas and Under Armour are not as soft but all 3 feel different from each other. The Evolutions, which is what all Indiana high schools use, is the perfect basketball. Literally one of the greatest creations of mankind.

With the transfer portal and NIL, there is more parity in college basketball than ever. Teams can be bad one season and buy themselves back into contention quickly with 2 to 3 players in a year or two.

Hope that is us next year!! Not that we are bad. We just likely aren't a FF team. Not enough bullets in the gun.
They are not any worse than what NC State was last year. Purdue just needs their bracket to fall their way, and then, take advantage of it. It could happen, but agreed, unlikely.

We will definitely be better next year for sure. However, I do not see us buying that missing piece or two to get there though like other schools do.

I know Painter doesn't like the portal/NIL, but if he thinks he has some pieces to a NC contender next year, he's gonna have to use the portal to fill a few holes.
