Got a few more minutes today. Made the most of it outside of the missed allyoop.
I never scored. Played the Tigers 30 miles southeast in Hoosier Conference games. Mount had made them legendary, but we faced the Walker brothers -- Steve, then maybe a senior; and Brian, a soph.
Absolutely, if you have the right personnel and can get in inbounds and go...do it...particularly if they are pressing after a basket and not set up. May be more selective with the personnel positions if the press is after a made FT or a violation where the press has time to get their people in position since more presses are zone presses.I like the overall philosophy of having the two best ball-handlers available to in-bounds to. I like the one taking the ball out to be tall. I also like that person to be a decent ball-handler, as he can either be the safety guy trailing the ball or he can bust to the middle ahead of the ball and create a difficult-to-cover man. That leaves your tallest, and often worst ball handers, downcourt and available to burst to above the foul circle.
With most lineups, that fits your 3 taking the ball out. BUT!!! at times it may be better to have the guy closest to the ball/baseline take it out and QUICKLY inbounds it .... which will still generally leave the 1, and 2 to receive the in-bounds as they are rarely under the basket. the 4 is usually under the basket, so his replacing the 3 is easy.
I can remember my coach screaming "FILL THE LANES." ...
I believe Brian is still around Lafayette and is an attorney and Steve I don't know if he is around Lafayette ?I never scored. Played the Tigers 30 miles southeast in Hoosier Conference games. Both went on to play for Purdue. Brian was point-guard starter for our 1980 last Final Four team. Our coach, 1948 Boiler MVP Bill Berberian, marveled even then how precocious he was with bounce passes.
For Lee Rose, he grew adept at throwing lobs to JBC and Arnette Hallman. As I recall, Steve was played as a wing shooter. Can anyone update me on how they are doing now?
I have been watching the USA games. He is not getting enough playing time to tell for sure, but in my opinion he need some work on D. He looks like he is in that AAU D mode and that will not cut it in West Lafayette.Love the fact he plays tough D - athletic, can shoot 3’s, drive to hoop and make unselfish passes. He’s gonna be a huge part of this team!
Lmao come on, man. It’s not a coaching problem. It comes with playing with elite talent like on this USA team. Not everyone can have the ball in his hands.Yea, noticed that in first game too, Purdue coaching needed.
8 pts 1 reb in 10:00 of playing time. 5/6 from ft line and 1/1 from 3 pt.
Seems like he gets a little tentative. Got abused a couple times on D. Team play for both US and China was sloppy in the 4th qtr. China losing their leading scorer due to an injury in the 3rd qtr really impacted the offense.8 pts 1 reb in 10:00 of playing time. 5/6 from ft line and 1/1 from 3 pt.
I watched some of this one. Just not much flow and team play but that's what you get when you throw a team together quickly. He's an athlete for sure and stroke looks solid. Get him around our coaches and teammates and he is going to be a good one for us this year. Just not getting enough consecutive minutes overall in this tournament to get into any flow. But I like what I see so far!
USA won easily 92-69
Very strange, He was the only guy who didn't get any minutes. Box score says DNP coaches decision.....USA playing France right now, currently up 3 at the half. Live stream is available on FIBA's YouTube chan.
So far Colvin has not played. Rather disappointing considering the wild, undisciplined play from the US. Surely Colvin is worthy of a few mins?
EDIT: USA falls to France 89-86 in the semifinals. I watched most of the game and I didn't see Colvin on the floor even for one minute. Was he injured? Coaches decision? If the latter, sorry to say but I'm glad the US lost.
Posted elsewhere, he has the #1,3 and 5 recruits nationally in the 2024 class and the #7 recruit in the 2023 class all playing the same position as him. Just some really talented players in front of him.Very strange, He was the only guy who didn't get any minutes. Box score says DNP coaches decision.....
His efficiency has been pretty good with limited minutes. Just surprised he didn't get any PT. Several guys played less then 5 minutes. Thought he'd at least get a sniff. It's not pretty basketball if anyone has watched. Not really surprised they got beat.Posted elsewhere, he has the #1,3 and 5 recruits nationally in the 2024 class and the #7 recruit in the 2023 class all playing the same position as him. Just roster construction. He’s the 5th of 5 guys at the 2/3 spit. Tough to play that many in a tight game. His efficiency has been pretty good with limited minutes. His play during the limited minutes he’s played has been no worse if not better and more disciplined than many of the guys playing ahead of him. I think Mark Armstrong has been the best player on the team when he’s on the court. Colvin deserves more time based on his productivity no matter whether the other guys have ‘higher rankings’ than him coming into the tournament. I agree. I was very encouraged by watching him play. I think that his shooting gets him a place in the rotation and he can build from there. With his athleticism, he could be a year or two away from being the star of the team. It's just great he's on the team and get the opportunity to play with some of his peers.
Nobody cares about the tournament. There is essentially no coverage and it was just a few games over a short span.
The only takeaway I have from the tournament is that Colvin was counted on to shoot the three. I take that as good for Purdue Basketball in 2023-2024. I've heard a lot about his athleticism and knew he could shoot it a little, but if he can be a volume and efficient shooter from three it would solve a lot of Purdue's issues from the end of last year,
He will be a one and done and Kokomo is not his real home. There is someone else directing him on what he should do.Choice Beef...
We are not a blue blood program? We need to step up and bring multiple brinks trucks at Flory in order to complete a great team...every position on the floor above would be addressed in order to achieve our goal: a National Championship. We always seem to be missing one or two pieces needed to run the table...let's do this in order to reel in Flory. Again, Boiler Up, Flory!
The #2 player in the country is in our backyard at Kokomo...and we can not sign him. This is an example of why we fail in making a deep run, win a National Championship and be a blue blood program. He might take less $$$ being closer to "home"...he is worth the money!
Did anyone here watch the bronze medal game versus Turkey? I just saw the box score but seems like the US just didn't show up, losing by 14.His play during the limited minutes he’s played has been no worse if not better and more disciplined than many of the guys playing ahead of him. I watched about 1/2 the total game. It's just ugly basketball. No flow on offense and little interest on the defensive end. 20+ turnovers also makes for ugly play. I didn't see Colvin play at all. He only had 5 minutes of PT.Did anyone here watch the bronze medal game versus Turkey? I just saw the box score but seems like the US just didn't show up, losing by 14.
Good: teen gets world hoops experiences & with high-ranked teammates.I watched about 1/2 the total game. It's just ugly basketball. No flow on offense and little interest on the defensive end. 20+ turnovers also makes for ugly play. I didn't see Colvin play at all. He only had 5 minutes of PT.
Bad: Talented athlete gets limited international experience on a team poorly coached with minimal chemistry and limited team play.Good: teen gets world hoops experiences & with high-ranked teammates.
Bad: ? weeks of un-coached & -disciplined ball. Not a one-&-done talent. Needs to learn to work with a team.
That’s as dumb as saying, that team chemistry matters 😉Lessen Learned: Good team play will beat talent every time.
Often, yes. Every time, no.Lessen Learned: Good team play will beat talent every time.
