Mershawn Rice in the slot?

Is your problem that Rice is too tall to play the slot?
So when you say too tall that sounds like a set up … if rice goes out there and I end up saying “oh wow, he has change of direction, agility and quickness that you usually only see in guys who are 5’11” 175,” then it’s a plus that he’s as big as he is. Most of the time that just isn’t the case. So it’s more like “unless he’s exceptional exceptional for his size, he’s probably missing some of the things that your typical slot has.

is this gonna be like “oh yeah you can play safety at kyle smiths height … just look at Taylor Mays at us friggin c “

Other issues are.. again, it’s not that brohm is doing this.. it’s that we don’t have a typical slot who is more talented than anthrop and may not have one at all… because it appears that brohm MAY have brought yet another guy onto campus that reminds you of some of the late Tiller guys (and no, not those two)

If we had not only anthrop but also a young Dorien Bryant coming off his freshman season and then brohm also wanted to do this.. well that’s different than it looking like brohm will have to do this. And before you potentially say “oh sure, Bryant.. cause guys like that pop up all the time,” uh.. moore was far better than Bryant and brohm should have been able to sell a guy of that caliber on playing rondale Moore’s position at

and when you say you’re problem… it’s irritating, but I don’t think brohm sucks and I don’t want brohm gone.

my hope is that we find out that sheffield made a mistake, put it behind him, and he gets off to a great season and then brohm sprinkles this thing in..

If I may..
I believe the expressed concern is not height but the lack of shiftiness and agility. Operating out of the slot one of the main things you are expected to do is produce yards after catch. Traditionally this is done using quicker Wes Welker/Julian Edelman types - see Rondale Moore. However, there is also something to be said for a big body with good set of hands that can post up on a quick slant and provide a reliable target for a 6-8 yard gain.
I’d add that less accurate QBs need bigger targets.

As someone else said, I don't really think it matters that much where players line up. Yeah I suppose smaller WRs tend to be in the slot, but that doesn't mean bigger players can't. We see TEs away from the line all the time. WRs are in motion a lot of the time and end up in the slot area at the snap. You're looking for matchup advantages. Wherever that happens it happens.

You are exactly right. Create mismatches anywhere you can. If that is Bell in the slot against their 3rd or 4th best cb great. If it is a small shifty wr against a safety or lb super. If it is a te or big wr against a smaller cb do it. Mismatches can be created a lot of ways and without having a Moore out there this year I am sure we will see a little if all of them.
