With the 2018 class replacing the likes of Vince, Mathias, PJT, and Haas...where do you think the class ends up? I put a list of the known offers from Rivals below:
Guards:
Romeo Langford (3) (he is a heavy lean to Duke or UK...no chance for CMP here)
Torrence Watson (93) (no active offer at this point but he did pop up while searching)
Eric Hunter (78) (word is that Hunter committed to Butler today)
Robby Carmody (92) (word is that Carmody is a heavy Purdue lean but holds some high quality offers from Syracuse, ND, Pitt, Michigan, Louisville, & Xavier)
Eric Ayala (69) (another player that doesn't hold a current offer but came up on my search...probably a zero chance here with offers from Arizona, IU, Maryland, Memphis, Syracuse, and VCU among others)
Tim Finke (77) (younger brother of current big man at Illinois, he is a very tall shooting guard who holds offers from Butler, Creighton, Illinois, NU, ND, Pitt, and Vandy but not from Purdue. Probably no chance here barring a late offer and a big push)
Robert Phinisee (134) (The biggest local talent since Jesse Berry out of Lafayette Jeff a number of years ago. Holds offers from Purdue, Butler, IU, and Virginia. If Hunter did commit to Butler, this puts Purdue in a good spot after I had heard he was a Butler lean. Hearing he may be interested in leaving the state as well...CMP probably needs to land him to fill the class with high caliber talent).
AJ Green (139) (Does not currently hold a Purdue offer but does from Iowa State, Minny, Nebraska, and Northern Iowa. This may be a guy CMP tabs as a Plan B player in the event things go south with this class).
Austin Boucher (NR) (No active offers from any schools but shows interest from Purdue, IU, Illinois, ND, Butler, and Michigan. I believe this is the kid many on the board are wanting CMP to throw a scholarship to because he has put up good numbers and is probably the best player in the Fort this year)
Carlos Curtis (NR) (Offers from Green Bay and IUPUI but interest from Purdue, Maryland, and Whisky among others. Appears to be a Plan B type of recruit for some major programs)

Forwards:
Joey Hauser (37) (Holds a current Purdue offer with others from NU, Bradley, UVA, Whisky, Iowa, Iowa State, and Marquette. Watched some film and if CMP can get the kid on campus, I would have Hummel highlights on repeat. Tall kid who can play outside-in just like RH did and can handle the ball well enough in the open court to push it up the floor. This is a kid I think CMP needs to make a push for and could be a multi year starter at Purdue)
Brandon Johns (42) (A backyard guy for Izzo from East Lansing, he holds offers from MSU, Purdue, Alabama, Iowa, Michigan, Purdue, and Pitt. Supremely athletically gifted and fits the mold of what Izzo has from his forwards. I would be totally surprised if he got away from MSU)
Musa Jallow (75) (Offers from Purdue, IU, Vandy, Butler, and UVA among other smaller schools. I would put him in a similar mold to Vince Edwards with a quicker first step and higher ceiling due to more athletic ability. This is another kid Purdue needs to get to fill out a good class to add to the 2017 class).
Demezi Anderson (97) (DA just received his first offer from Purdue University 3/23/17. The top 100 Rivals player appears that his past season really showed Painter something that he could build on if Anderson makes his way to Purdue)
Pete Nance
(NR) (Does hold an offer from Florida but that is the only high major offer. Appears to be a Plan B type recruit for the likes of Purdue, Michigan, and OSU. From the limited highlights I have seen, appears to be pretty stiff but a good shooter. This may be a kid programs are looking to see if he can grow another 2-3 inches to get to 6'10-6'11. If he does, he may become a bigger priority)

Centers:
Adam Trapp (3 star NR) (Lots of info on this guy already on the board being another 7'2 guy. Appears to be a Purdue lean right now due to that factor alone. Get him in a RS year, put some weight on him, and get him in to the same flexibility program as Haas did for four years and Trapp could evolve in to a very good big man. Has some good movement for a 7'2 guy and you can't coach height. NEEDS to get his body weight up to a minimum of 230 to really be effective on the inside in the B1G)
Jason Taylor (NR) (Another Plan B type recruit with offers only from North Dakota and South Dakota State but interest from Creighton, Iowa, Purdue, Nebraska, UVA, and Whisky. Big body at 6'11 and 240 and moves well but probably limited ceiling in ability. Limited highlights to work with but he looks very limited in his growth. Total Plan B player for Purdue, IMO).
Emmanuel Dowuona (NR) (Holds a current offer from Purdue along with UCONN, FGCU, GT, Miami, Rutgers, and South Florida. For 6'10 and 220, is very explosive off the floor and has good touch and feel around the rim. This may be the sleeper in the class if CMP is able to pull him in with this class as he appears to be a player with a very high ceiling due to his size and athletic ability. Has good movement up and down the floor and doesn't 'lumber' like most big men.

In terms of roster for when these players would be incoming freshman, the roster makeup would be:
Guards: 4 (Carsen, Cline, Stefanovic, Eastern)
Forwards: 2 (Ewing, Wheeler)
Centers: 2 (Taylor, Haarms)

I am guessing the 2018 class is going to have to be a big class of 5 players again and is going to be very heavy on guys that can play the 2-4. You have Ewing who will be a senior that can play the 4 and 5 to give some good depth there but more than likely CMP will want to bring in a true center with this 2018 class to develop.

If I had my realistic choice (Langford isn't coming to Purdue for example):
Guards:
Robert Phinisee
Robby Carmody

Forwards:
Joey Hauser/Musa Jallow
Pete Nance

Centers:
Emmanuel Dowuona

My best guess here and I'd love to hear what others think about the 2018 class who may be a bit more informed than I am by looking up information online. The only guys I really know about are Phinisee and Thompson (2019 class).

***3/23/17 Update***
Damezi Anderson offered a scholarship per his twitter.

***4/29/17 Update***
Keyshawn Embery, a point guard, was offered a scholarship. According to GBI, new assistant coach Steve Lutz brought the relationship to Purdue from Creighton. Embery says Purdue will get an unofficial visit this summer (great time since Purdue will be practicing for the World University Games) and an official this fall. Rated the 108th player in the country for the 2018 class, he would provide a great off the bench player to spell another guard BUT could also provide a great three headed guard monster teamed with Carsen Edwards and Nojel Eastern where all three players could bring the ball up while Nojel could guard larger 3's on the wing.

And you forgot Crean has a SG from his backyard too and we offered him as well. Since Crean tries to knock our backyard so Painter might think he might have a shot on some local B guy. But I'd say that guy is 80 percent crimson unless he shows some interests of leaving home.
So funny in 2018 Izzo, Crean and us all have someone in our backyard. But so far only Izzo's backyard is absolutely safe. Crean has some shot with his local kid but who knows if he wants to leave home. And our backyard is like maybe 50% safe.
I would say that our first commit next year is still gonna be the biggest. Only Trapp shows absolute confidence to us. I want nobody than a PG, no matter who that is. I just feel so insecure after PJ leaves. We will have a one year gap between PJ and Isaiah and by the time we will have Carsen and Nojel. Both of them are too good and if they get improved too much I'm afraid either of them is gonna test the water.
Funny theory that I feel confident with us getting Carmody because one shooter each year right?
Izzo's backyard is safe for now. I saw Johns visited on 2/18, the sparty game day. Sitting on our bench watching his home college losing in WL. I don't know what he's thinking about. I still have a slight hope on him.

Adam Trapp (3 star NR) (Lots of info on this guy already on the board being another 7'2 guy. Appears to be a Purdue lean right now due to that factor alone. An article from Nov. or Dec. posted in an earlier thread stated that Trapp is up to 230 pounds.

Right now everything about Langford points green. I'd love to have him if only he can stay longer than one year.

I thought I read that Carmody was a heavy lean towards OSU. I also read Phinisee was a lean towards Butler.

I would love to see Painter get Carmody and Phinisee. Both would be excellent players and very nice component pieces to what's Purdue has been trying to do.

I don't know much about Trapp but he seems to be a lock. Word is that he has been in contact with Haas.

Purdue offered two 2017 big men that have a lot of upside recently. I think our core will be Trapp, Carmody, and Phinisee if we are lucky. Take those three and bank a scholly going into the 2019 class. That would give us an excellent class and some room to grab Thompson and then grab an athletic wing or a big man in the 2019 class. Phinisee I think is the less likely of the three but we are still very much in the running. Purdue can't afford to keep losing top targets to Butler. Losing Kyle Young to them really hurts. He would have been a perfect fit and will be a fantastic college player. If Butler manages to grab Hunter and Phinisee in the 2018 class, they will be very scary.

Bit of insider info I'm not at liberty to share names about...could be hearsay though.
Fair enough.

Hadn't seen anything posted anywhere and plus he had a sectional game last night so figured he would be more focused on that.

Also I would be surprised if he signs or announces now. He has been moving up the charts for rank and figures to get some additional interest especially after the summer AAU circuit.

That was what confused me as well since I believe I read in an article that he was wanting to trim at the start of the summer and then decide going in to his senior year so that he could focus on his senior season.

He is one that I would be very happy to see in a Boilermaker uniform...doesn't change that I believe Joey Hauser should be a top priority along with noted top priority Robby Carmody as well. I think Joey, in CMP's system, would flourish as a stretch 3/4 in a similar fashion that RH did. I just happen to think Hauser is a better overall athlete than Robby was considering the knee injuries.

haven't seen the players...a few videos on some, but like your center as he is very fluid and would add to the more fluid players Matt is bringing in. reminds me of JJ

Demezi Anderson (97) (Currently only has listed interest from IU and Purdue with no offers from either. Appears to be a Plan B player for both programs).
Pete Nance (NR) (Does hold an offer from Florida but that is the only high major offer.

I hope Purdue can get Carmody along with Hunter or Phinisee. I think those are all impact guys that this class can build around.

Also, trying not to be negative, but I really hope Purdue is in on more talent at the four and five than this list indicates for 2018. With the combination of tons of projected playing time up for grabs in 2018, Purdue getting the ball in the post more than any team, and Hammons/Swanigan/Haas all on the NBA radar, it would seem Purdue should be able to reel in an impact guy here.

Trapp might blow up, but all signs point to him being a developmental guy like Haarms. Maybe Dowuona or Hauser will work out too.

Just hoping to see a wider net cast for the post positions this spring and summer since Purdue has a lot of good things to sell players on right now.

Watching Hauser, he is a much more athletically gifted Mathias...on par with RH. He is a player that can thrive being the focal part of a program like Purdue. I liken it to Derek Willis at UK...imagine where he might be had he been given the chance to start multiple years at a different program.

If it is in fact between schools like UVA, Whisky, and Iowa...I like CMP's chances as he has had good success outside of Kyle Guy to UVA. Honestly haven't had a lot of recruiting matchups against Whisky and Iowa.

Joey Hauser is the real deal. Tremendous body control, likeable shooting motion with a clean shooting pocket. Loves the midrange game. A very confident player on the court (granted he's the best player on the court).

The Hummel comparison is perfect.

looks like Minny got an athletic player here against Joey

#10 looked really good handling and shooting the ball. Athleticism and quickness jumping need work.

he can play on the perimeter adn no doubt what got Purdue interested, the athlete in teh blue will be going against people his size in college...but he was a good athlete.

no way we pull a kid that looks like that from Wisconsin over Wiscy. Not happening. Period.

I'm sure the net is very wide. We just don't know about it. Painter has a habit of finding good players before the "experts" decide they are good. It's tough to keep a "diamond in the rough" a secret if everyone on a message board knows about it.

Ryan is not coaching anymore. You could be correct, but we don't know if history will be a good predictor now...

I think next season is a very telling season for Gard at Whisky. He had a very experienced team this season and I don't see a lot High end talent there for next season as Happ is more than likely gone after this season. Add to that losing Koenig and Hayes, Whisky will be replacing three multi year starters. That could be enticing for a guy like Joey but it could also be enticing for Joey to get out of state and come to Purdue given the likelihood of sustained success next season.

You think he is going pro? Happ isn't listed in either the 2017 or 2018 mock drafts on Draft Express.

Carmody is soo much more than a shooter.

Landing him would be huge, imo.

Where would Happ go? He has made two field goals outside the paint in his entire Wisconsin career. The NBA will have no use for him.

Yeah, in my limited viewings I have NOT seen him be an offensive threat outside 4 feet. Can play D in space, can run the court adn tricky inside with college refs, but think he needs some development on the offensive end

They have Happ listed at #80 right now on Draft Express. I thought I had heard news he was testing the waters this season if he had a good season. From their analysis on Happ:

"Happ doesn't have the flashiest game and is far from a traditional prospect, but he has great fundamentals, footwork, and instincts on both ends of the floor, and has taken full advantage of the huge role that he is playing for one of the top teams in the country. His productivity at the highest levels of college basketball, along with his strong athleticism, basketball IQ and motor certainly give him a chance to carve out a long NBA career. "

In all honesty, if he does well in the tourney and tests the waters and gets good feedback, he may be gone. Next season he will be losing a lot of high end talent around him in Koenig, Hayes, Showalter, and Brown (all starters this season). They do have a nice PG in Trice but in all honesty Wisconsin could be looking at a major step back next season (I know, I know...that is usually when Whisky ends up winning the whole damn conference and continuing their run of like 15 years without finishing outside of the top 4 in the conference). I just think Happ (who was questionable to return after last year) may look around and see a roster that may end up dropping his stock a bit overall if he can sneak in to that second round conversation...and honestly through workouts and the NBA Combine, I wouldn't put it past him.

If Happy were to leave, that would really decimate a Whisky roster that would be lacking playmakers outside of Happy next season. I'm in no way saying Happ is a starter in the NBA, but his athletic ability gives him a chance to defend the 4/5 off the bench and provide good backup minutes. An NBA team could always see an ability to develop a mid-range jumper and free throws through work but good footwork and fundamental base is needed.

There are only 60 picks in the draft, so #80 is not good. I think that evaluation was being very kind and would bet that the combine (if he was even invited) would be much more accurate. He has absolutely no game outside of 10 feet (I'm being kind) and his FT shooting is abysmal. For our sake I hope he goes, for his sake not so much.

Agreed but either way, I'm not really looking at Whisky of being much of a factor. It'll be a one trick pony show up there next season as their biggest recruit looks to be a very traditional Whisky big man who can shoot from outside a bit but is limited in athletic ability (he isn't the next Frank Kaminsky from what I've seen). I could totally be wrong but from what they play mainly this in heavy senior minutes along with Happ and Trice....i'm not seeing a much improved team from this year to next while most other B1G teams will improve from this season to next.

No question I agree with all that...all good footwork. I also know shooting can be improved, but would a team take a chance with all that work to do? Haas is probably better of a shooter from the perimeter...

and he struggles big-time at the FT line. He'll get a lot of attention from defenses next year with all the departures....he's going to need to expand his game. He's a really good player, nonetheless, although I'm watching for a travel just about every time he makes a move.

I'm less confident about Langford having Purdue in his top 2-3 than I was a few months ago, but I still wouldn't be stunned if he ends up a Boilermaker.

I would be stunned. Unless we make it to the final four this year, it is not so likely.
