Dang, thought Purdue had a good shot with him. Really need to get a commitment from Tillman and/or Eastern soon.
I wonder how much influence Michigan had in this early decision. Michigan got a commitment recently from someone else and promptly told Kyle Young his scholarship was gone. Then a week later he takes his first official visit to Butler and commits. Gotta think there's a decent chance that the evaporated UM scholarship was fresh on his mind and might have influenced him to make an early decision before more spots filled up at his other school choices.
With him being one of our longest targeted 2017 recruits, I don't see how he worried that we were going to fill up before he could visit.
This commitment is consistent with the recent posts today in Chevy's "news" thread. Guess it's not premium info anymore, regardless. Tillman, Eastern, and Jackson appear to be the remaining top (or most publicized) targets. Would be interested to hear how the official visits went this weekend.
It's funny when a premium member comes out to the free board and tries to act like they have a scoop on something just because they read it on the premium forum without actually revealing where they got their info.
At any rate, it's all over twitter at this point.
That, and it feels like Purdue is (and has been) sitting on a stockpile of scholarships. I think this is simply a kid "feeling right" on a visit and deciding to end it. Good for him and good for Painter that it's over and he can focus more recruiting time on other players.
Also, this thread should bring out another battle between the 2 extremes of posters - the sky is falling and everything's going to hell vs. the sky is the limit and he never would have got off the bench here. I must admit it's at least entertaining for the first half-dozen posts.
Don't think anyone that follows recruiting is happy about this because we clearly wanted him but I don't see that it's worth throwing a fit over when we don't even know who will ultimately fill those scholarships.
If we don't get 2 of 3 you listed this class will feel like a bust with all the time put in and saved schollys. Hopefully get a feel good story soon.
Painter is weak in recruiting skills, but this one isn't on him. Hard to recruit a kid when he doesn't even come for an official. His early acceptance smells of cold feet and wanting to land somewhere before it was too late.

How can you not blame it on painter if he didn't come for a visit that just means Matt Painter wasn't good enough to get him here for a visit I remember the eighties and nineties I can't remember Butler ever getting a kid over top of us. But this is the new age and Purdue is not one of the top basketball schools in the state anymore I would say Notre Dame then Butler rounding out the bottom IU then Purdue.
Does it matter where I live just know this the recruits we was going after are falling off one by one and none of them Falling Towards Purdue. But hey let's give the man more money. That was supposed to help recruiting out looks like not. It's not the money it's the man doing the talking to the recruits but oh well. Here's to another underachieving year go boilers

I know I'm right on 90% of the stuff I say. The problem with this board about 90% of the Purdue fans are not realistic. Everybody needs to realize there's nothing anybody can say on this board that criticize Purdue that will hurt recruiting. But I tell you one thing that will hurt it not getting out of the first round in two years. Not getting to a Elite 8 in 12 years not getting to a final four ever. You want good recruits to come to your school consistently get far in the tournament until that happens recruiting will just be average. Everything you say is so full of crap it is hard to know where to begin. I get it, you are too much of a simpleton to see the bigger picture, but the evidence that CMP is a good coach is abundant and you are just either too stupid to see it or simply choosing not to. Everyone you call unrealistic knows a bad recruiting class would likely be a major problem in the 17-18 season. They just are not speaking negatively while the class is unfinished. Any realistic person knows you are not going to get every one of your top targets, so why dump on the program before you know the final results?
If a recruit is coming on an official to go out and party and have fun. Then his official visit to Purdue under Painter will not be fun or what he wants. MP makes everything team oriented. Not out getting the recruit wasted and having fun to all hours of the morning. Plain and simple most recruits expect to have a night like that on their official. If MP let that happen you'd prolly see a bit of a jump in recruiting but might not end up with the type of players he wants.
This is just silly. Granted I've never been on an official visit because my athletic prowess when I was 17 was laughable (and it has blossomed into an even greater state of laughability today). But you're not going to convince me that the overwhelming majority of kids on official visits are out looking for a 48-hour bender on a college visit. They only get 5 of these maximum, so they are quite valuable. And most kids bring parents (or a guardian or some other authority figure in their life)... not exactly the time when your typical 17-yr old is looking to get wild.
I'm not saying those kids with those priorities don't exist, because I'm sure they do. But I suspect those aren't the kids Painter is targeting anyway after having got to know them on the recruiting trail. So what you're describing doesn't seem applicable.
I'm not one to run around and scream Purdue needs a new coach every time a recruit goes elsewhere. But have mercy, this is a half-cocked excuse if I've ever heard one about why a Purdue recruit picked another school. He found another school/coach/situation he and his family liked better. Why can't it just be that simple? These elaborate made-up excuses are just embarrassing.
I'm not saying a 48hr bender. But in this day in age most kids when they are going on an official visit expect to spend a night out partying. They expect to experience college life(for what they think it is). Partying/girls. And yes Purdue does the whole school, basketball and then a team thing like bowling for the night time.
No Final 4 Ever......check your history......and we still have a winning record over IU...never forget that bitch.
Purdue will sign a great class this year and next year......the reasons these kids maybe didn't sign elsewhere earlier is because Matt Painter maybe said let me see if I get my extension so I can look you in the eyes and tell you I will be your coach the 4 years you are here....ever think of that angle genius, no you just take the negative bashing approach.

I found that out about 10 years ago not all Purdue fans and alumni are the same.
To many fair weather and band wagon fans all around when Purdue is doing well and dumb assess the rest of the time being negative and part of the problem instead of being part of the solution.
