It's easy to say numbers are skewed when you have no numbers to counter them.
Facts are facts, and P.J.'s 49-percent shooting from three and 4.1 assist-turnover-ratio are the facts of his performance this year against Big Ten opponents. He, in fact, ranked near or at the top of the Big Ten Conference in those categories. But you can't handle the ball or shoot from three enough when you're forced to spend nearly half of each game on the bench.
A freshman, especially when developing in a new position, rarely proves to be as valuable as an established senior, even one who's been shattered by his coach. Ideally, though, you'd have both and, more importantly, find use for both.
Lastly, if you were at the Co-Rec picking teams, who would you take first -- Stephens, Mathias or Cline? I sure wouldn't let the one with the better size, quickness and play-makiing ability walk out the door.
Of course not...I wouldn't let Mathias walk out the door. To say Stephens has more play-making ability is ridiculous since he hasn't done it outside of 1 game in three years.
