IU Football

LMAO, There was chest thumping. There was coming to other team's forums and arguing about how great IU is, even though they still haven't beaten a ranked team in how long? Or won a bowl game in how long?

Saturday was an embarrassing loss for a 17th ranked team. Couple that with a misspelled jersey and we don't see any other IU fans here but you...

Well of COURSE some IU fans puff up a bunch. Some fans of every school do that, especially on message boards.

BTW, IU beat three ranked teams last year (Penn State, Michigan, and Wisconsin on the road). I guess the counter to that is that they didn't stay ranked. For instance, because Indiana beat #18 Wisconsin on the road, Wisconsin finished 4-3 instead of 5-2. A 5-2 Wisky team would've been ranked. Too much mental gymnastics? Okay--understood, but IU beat three teams that were ranked at the time they played them. It's the B1G and there is no way to avoid ranked teams - especially when you go 6-1 in conference.

Will the Tom ALlen era be a mirage like Brohm's good year or an extended era of much better IU football? Brohm's best year at Purdue was 6-7 overall, 5-4 in conference. Allen now has two successive years of 8-5, 5-4 followed by 6-2, 6-1. It's absolutely possible it will slide into the usual IU football sadness but I'm not thinking that's likely. If that's "chest thumping" then so be it!

Finally, for those who want to keep this board to Purdue football talk only -- I get it. But I'm okay with threads about other teams or college football generally on my IU board. This thread is specifically designed for that purpose and purduepat1969 called for a response. If you guys don't want IU fans to comment, no worries -- I get it and the mods should shut it down.

Peace

Some Purdue student could go down in history if they pulled off this prank.

I mean, hell, we took a couple of nice shots at iu with that really well done commercial that was running last year with the woman on stage.
It's a great rivalry (well, not so much in basketball anymore), I think MBob should go ahead and authorize changing the flag.

It's Indinia football....no one really cares (except for the geese who like to use Memorial Stadium as a toilet).

What I don't understand is how in the hell they could get the Adidas factory in China or Vietnam or wherever to print every other single IU uniform correctly, yet screw up the one freshman fifth string running back's jersey. There aren't even names on the back of the jerseys so every jersey is the same lettering, with only a number to differentiate for chrissakes!

Yeessh. Thinking Nike would never create a situation that comically bad.

Brohm was 7 and 6 his first season including a Bowl win which is something no IU coach has ever done in his first season. If the Hoosiers win two out of three against Cinci,PSU and OSU,come back here and I will congratulate you.

The funny part is that people like me get banned on your site for saying something less than you are here. That's how ironic you being here is.

You have consistently reasonable posts --but FWIW I have never seen you on "my site". If you posted without personal insults or insulting IU you would not be banned from multiple IU free boards. In fact, I have never seen a no-personal-insults poster from another fan base banned in any way in the very active IU site that I post on.

I try to be careful to NEVER use personal insults or deviate into criticism of Purdue on this board, including during this exchange. Not sure what part of what I said would arguably be "ban-worthy.' If you can show me where I have that's on me and I apologize.

If you are referring to the IU Rivals free board, that is the least active, least substantive IU free message board there is. Have you ever tried the more active, more substantive IU free boards?

Like we said...It's Indinia football. They'll find a way to screw up anything.

Comparisons:
IU will likely end up 4-8. When the losses pile up, how will their story play out?
Conversely, a 6-6 Purdue is an uptick.

Will be interesting to see this season unfold.

Don't know about 'thumping', but IU is a good P5 football team. Played horribly on offense on Saturday. Defense was reasonably good, though Iowa's offense won't scare anyone.

The loss was only embarrassing if a fan gets embarrassed by a sporting event. Maybe the IU players and staff were embarrassed by the performance--that'd be healthy. I simply enjoy watching the Hoosiers play (though last Saturday was not as much fun as last year lol).

IU's schedule is incredibly front-loaded. If they can get through a top ten Cinci team, at Penn State, and OSU with a win (or maybe even two?) they will be in for 7/8 wins and an excellent season, and will support the current recruiting roll.
What do you mean that you don't know about "thumping"? There was tons of unwarranted and misguided chest thumping about the alleged national power that Indinia was/is...despite having been exposed in the bowl game that they were insulted to play in...by Ole Miss' JV squad, and, the reality check provided on Saturday.

The ONLY reason the scheduled is even arguably (or feels) front loaded is because it was outside of their own control, otherwise they would be playing Idaho and the likes every week.

There is a reason that Indinia leads the nation in losses as a program...and, will add to that this year...they are not good, and, while you did not enjoy watching Saturday's game...I could not have enjoyed it more...and, I look forward to watching them exposed multiple more times along the way this year for the fraud that they are.

You may be more reasonable than other IU fans here. I've seen multiple like coachgeez who hurled insults every session with no ban. Whoever moderates the IU Rivals board has thin skin. I'll tell you there are tens of Purdue fans here who have been banned from the IU board for having pretty reasonable discussions on that board.

I got banned for liking a post that Tom Allen looks like Gary Busey.

Don't know about all the IU basketball board moderators, but the Bloom moderator seems pretty just, fair & even handed to all, as far as I have experienced thus far. These boards are often not what they seem.

Or that D-bag that was always on here around the same time he and Coach Geez got banned who said he was in he know and Gillis would be transferring. Man that sure aged well. 😜

Keep sniffing the glue. You just listed 3 more games IU WILL lose, so 8 wins isn’t happening and 7 is on the verge of leaving town.

Disagree. They will bail on their team much faster than they do annually on their basketball team and revert to the status quo of cheering for Notre Dame in football.
They turned into a pumpkin on Saturday, they go to the trash bin on Oct 2. Just in time for basketball season to pop up on their fans radar, which will end about Jan 15th.

The Star threw Penix under the bus Sunday, then threw it in reverse a few times (though it was only an 'off game' for him). Does 'Pick Six Penix' start against the Bearcats, or is that only if he beats Idaho?

Btw, D. Dakich wants to know if IU will cover the spread. He may go both ways on this one, just like on his show.

Picksix was incredibly overrated...perhaps the most overrated QB in the country for that matter, and, without question within the conference...with The Star a large part of the propaganda emanating from Gloomingtucky.

The ridiculous and delusional Heisman campaign ended immediately with the first game, which, is appropriate.

Appropriate that he was the "face of the program" in that his campaign was as fraudulent as all of the unwarranted hype surrounding the fraudulent program.

I actually prefer Adidas gear to Nike (to hell with the gawd-awful vegas beige they have foisted on Purdue, instead of Old Gold), but that is inexcusable….
Indinia will be the gift that keeps on giving for all Purdue fans.

Btw, who let you out of the "Box of Shame"??

I've been treated well by some pretty harsh (to some others) posters over here: Purdue85, mathboy, and Abugabby are routinely stand-up posters when I stop by and it is appreciated.

In my opinion? Purdue85, mathboy, and Abugabby get it--reserve harsh treatment for posters that merit it, and treat people with genuine intentions hospitably.

If that doesn't happen, the posters with good intentions won't stop by. Heck, for that matter, if that strategy is not followed, the Purdue posters with good intentions will stop by less too, and you're left with nastiness complaining about the nastiness they've attracted.

Anyway--I think that Plummer is pretty good and a steady hand where a football team needs one the most, that Bell is one of the top few receivers nationally, and that Purdue will likely surpass expectations this year (though those Purdue wins will be shootouts). Also think that predicting IU football's demise after one bad road loss to a ranked team is an overstatement.

But that's just my opinion--I'll bow out of this thread. Happy Tuesday to all!

Definitely not the right search--HoosierSportsNation was affiliated with 247 but maybe they're not anymore.. The HoosierSportsNation board had about 500 posts and over 7,000 views for the Iowa game. BtownBanners a similar number.

It probably got noticed on Saturday pre-game and a spare #33 jersey likely hadn't been packed; here's where your equipment manager and his staff need to step up and be quality (damage) control:
  1. cut two strips of athletic tape
  2. find red permanent marker
  3. color strips red
  4. tape red dash on second "N"
  5. tape red slash BETWEEN second "N" and third "I"
  6. be GRATEFUL it was only one jersey
Indinia_Losers.jpg

Does it look good? No, but it looks better, and it's only a temporary fix that could avoid any potential embarrassment. Of course you have to understand this kind of stuff and have the desire to at least attempt to provide a solution. If you lack both or either traits, you're probably one prone to think "there's no such thing as bad publicity" or that it doesn't matter your school's athletic department doesn't know your school's colors.

I actually prefer Adidas gear to Nike (to hell with the gawd-awful vegas beige they have foisted on Purdue, instead of Old Gold), but that is inexcusable….
Indinia will be the gift that keeps on giving for all Purdue fans.

It's Purdue Athletic Department's (very poor) choice to outfit our teams in Vegas gold, not Nike; it looks terrible, is far more egregious and is inexcusable as well. We should be demanding a change for the better.
