Loosiers should not have been in the playoff period. The committee f@$k up there.
Everytime I see coach Cig's face I wanted to punch it. And I know I'm not the only one...

Lol now everyone will let them know alllllllll offseason how they shouldn’t have been in the CFP and the committee (probably) won’t allow a team with their resume get in the next few times.

Meh— it’s no big deal.

Indinia had a ridiculously easy schedule that they exploited; they clearly demonstrated they could dominate inferior competition, and they also clearly demonstrated they aren’t remotely elite…

They proved the same as Notre Dame. There is still just a talent disparity. Amazing season so none of it really matters.

What exactly did they prove the same as Notre Dame?
I think he means that Notre Dame had the same record and an easier strength of schedule leading to their playoff birth.

But when they played each other, Notre Dame was a much stronger team, and the talent disparity was big.

And what an incredibly, incredibly fantastic, enjoyable season for the Indiana Hoosiers!

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all on this board!

Did notre dame not beat 4 top 25 teams? IU’s strength of schedule was propped up by playing at Ohio state, no? It was pretty awful until they played at OSU I believe.

Nah…ND beat one current top 25 team — A&M. Louisville was top 25 when ND beat them, but so was Nebraska when IU beat them. And ND had that home loss to NIU.

Anyway— ND has the worst strength of schedule of playoff teams and I don’t think it’s that close.

Weird. I see ND beat 4 top 25 teams at the time they played them?

I also see IU at 32 and ND at 38 for SOS. SMU at 60. But I guess espn must be lying to me?

True-Army and Navy were ranked back then. I guess Florida State was at one point and Northern Illinois was too after they won at Notre Dame. Probably why end of season strength of schedule is a good/best indicator. IU beat both #25 Nebraska and Michigan, and Michigan turned out to be a far better team.

Didn’t realize SMU played that easy a schedule!

Notre Dame not great, over ranked as usual. IU is worse. IU is saying they played bad, but truth is they do not have the horses to compete with top teams like Ohio State or just good but not great teams line Notre Dame.

IU schedules the right way for a team in their position (PU should do same thing). Schedule 3 sure wins to start season so you have a chance for a bowl each year. Next season, here is IU's 1st 3 games all at home:

  • Aug. 30 (Saturday) vs. Old Dominion at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Ind.
  • Sept. 6 (Saturday) vs. Kennesaw State at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Ind.
  • Sept. 13 (Saturday) vs. Indiana State at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Ind.
IU benefited from an "easy" B1G schedule they won't always get that. They played 3 teams all season that had winning records (ND, UM and OSU). Not worthy of the playoff and I'm sure between them and SMU they have ruined it for any other team like them to make it in the coming years. Committee won't make that mistake again.

I love reading your boards.. I can at least have conversations with intelligent Purdue graduates and fans at my club versus the useless but entertaining complaining on here.

what convos have you engaged in here? And if you want actual entertainment, go to the IU b-ball board and read the last….3 years of posts.

Indiana had a SOS of 67 entering the ND game. ND had a SOS of 60. Both teams whooped every team on their schedule but 1. And they didn't lose to multiple unranked teams like Ole Miss and Alabama. So it was pretty easy to put them in.

ND beat multiple top 25 teams. IU did not. IU could have but they paid 1M to not play Louisville this year. They won the games in front of them but their talent was not up to par for the playoff. Rourke 💩 himself and so did their OLine and defense. Cig talked a big game and got shut up. If they go 11-1 next year, then yeah, they’ll deserve to be there. But I don’t think they will.

1. What was their SOS before playing OSU? Serious question. I think playing OSU saved them from having a very high/low SOS. But I could be wrong.

I'm not going to argue with you about if they should have been in the playoffs. But if you don't think how they and SMU played today won't affect the committee going forward, I think you're pretty naive. Same scenario next year and Alabama, South Carolina or others will be in there.

As I said, I think IU schedules exactly like a team in their position should. Make it as easy as you can to make a bowl every year. Don't challenge yourself early, just get 3 for sure wins and then hope for the best in conference. They had a very nice year and if I were an IU fan I would be thrilled. I think if you can take off your crimson glasses you would agree they were outclassed and didn't belong in that game. But if not, that's ok no big deal.

Purdue and Indiana in football and basketball at one time or another have had
"easy" schedules which benefitted them. The fan base enjoyed the year and being in the CFP after the Tom Allen years. I would have been fine with going to a major bowl game. Anything would have been a plus for Indiana football.

Lol all IU fans do when Purdue b-ball wins big ten : league is def down this year!

IU football did not belong and that’s OK.

That's how most teams do it. Indiana plays 9 conference games. It doesn't make any sense to essentially add a 10th. SEC teams play 8. So a team like Alabama played Western Kentucky, South Florida, Wisconsin and then Mercer in the middle of November. It doesn't make any sense for any B1G team to schedule a 10th game.

Indiana did belong. Were Alabama and Ole Miss better and more more talented than Indiana and SMU? Yea probably. But neither took care of business when they needed to against bad teams. That isn't Indianas fault. That isn't SMUs fault. Alabama beats Oklahoma and they are in over SMU. Ole beats Kentucky and they'd have had a good shot at being in. Miami beats Syracuse and the same. None of them did.

Beat multiple ranked teams... And when all is said and done, it'll be one in the regular season. Texas A&M.

Nah IU didn’t belong. They showed the frauds that they were vs the two good teams they played. They could have at least played Louisville but they paid 1M to cancel that series.

IU was supposed to be the top scoring team in the country. What happened? They were supposed to be the top rush defense in the country. What happened?

Ah yes, that’s right, they ran up scores and didn’t play anyone.

So who was going to take IUs place? Indiana lost to two ranked teams.

Is this this because of some lingering Brohm love? As in “Brohm was so dreamy good and is the gold standard for football opponents.”
The Brohm test is not how the playoffs were determined; if they were Stanford would be in.

But 11-1 with the only loss to a top five team in the road will get you in.

Will be interesting how the committee looks at this going forward. SMU and IU weren’t the top 12 best teams. They may as well do top 24. Would be a better way to determine it

So then why play the season if losses don't matter? If we are just going to go off opinion? Just begin the season every year with the playoffs and nothing else matters.

Can you learn to spell? This is a national forum and your words are coming across like A 22 year old drunk frat rat! It’s time you acted your age!

A tailor got the name wrong once. He might have even been a Purdue grad. That was 3-5 years ago. You don’t need to keep driving it into the ground.

No matter how many teams are allowed in a tournament, there will always be arguments about the last 2-3 teams getting in over their preferred teams. Happens now in the Basketball tournament with 68 teams. Hypothetical arguments can be made for and against all the questioned about teams. I know one thing though, the NCAA will have 16 teams with 8 home field advantages in this FB tournament before they ever reduce the current 12. Too much money to be made.

Should have been set to 16 to begin with. Zero byes. No auto seeding due to conference championships.
