Indiana High School Football Coaches

Should have been fired for cause - no way he was doing a damn thing.
My favorite was his expeditious use of the bye weekend in 2015 - and travelled all the way to Lafayette Central Catholic.
What a bum. How he looks at himself in the mirror every morning is beyond me.

Reading this article only makes me more mad about the waste that was the last 8 years of Purdue football. I remember Hazell's first game against Tommy T at Cincinnati and thinking what did we just hire. I told friends then that we were in big trouble - but the personnel mistakes turned out to be even worse. I was somewhat close to the Drue Tranquill recruitment and it seems that after Drue flipped to ND that DH2 gave up on Fort Wayne. The AWP folks were quick to pick up on this and started to actively counsel the good kids in their program to steer clear of Purdue. I remember a prominent Ft Wayne Boiler backer telling me about picking up the phone to let MB know what was going on and he was laughed at.
I'm all in on the Brohmance - he just is what the doctor ordered to accomplish all of the healing that needs to take place to get things back to where they should be.

My neighbor is connected to the football program at Ben Davis. Said that when the Haze came to visit the BD coaches, he casually inquired, "who you got this week on the schedule?" The answer was Warren Central! One of the most anticipated Indy-area H.S. match ups of the year. Everyone who follows Indiana H.S. football was talking about it -- local TV had been building it up days in advance, and the Haze didn't even know they were playing! Needless to say, the Ben Davis coaches were not impressed. In fact, they were insulted that he came so unprepared, indicating he had zero interest in them or their program. Neighbor said the Haze did try to get in on Evans, but only after UM had offered. BD coaches told the Haze it was too late and not to waste his time.

Burke laughed at him? What an incompetent joke Burke was.

Hazell was a joke.

Redecorating his office, folding the bill of his cap....
...and practicing getting just the right position for that cap. You can make fun all you want but when the man looked across to the other sideline, it was like "Blue Steel".

I was reading about the new facilities yesterday. I also clicked on Mollenkopf and it said "on the third floor is Coach Darrel Hazels office". I immediately emailed the JPC and told them this needs to be removed ASAP. They responded quickly and said "good catch"

I think the videos should be redone and get Burke off of them. He's so boring.

I would rather quickly remove Burke from everything. Lots of bad feelings associated with him.

To think that some "fans" on this site supported Burke and Hazell over the last two years is even more maddening. It's a shame we can't manage them out the door.

It was so refreshing to hear Brohm to talk about recruiting a 300-mile radius around Purdue. There is TALENT in the Great Lakes region. That is our backyard and should be where our emphasis is. Sure, there could be a kid in Texas or Florida that can and should be recruited. BUT, the emphasis should be in our backyard. We can have winning championship teams from Great Lakes kids. DH1 and DH2 spent way too much time elsewhere and made Purdue seem distant to local HS coaches.

We have so much talent in the Indy area alone..........should pick up 6-8 good athletes alone from the area every year. INDY high school football has come a long way over the past ten years.I lived in Cincinnati for a lengthy period of time and I would stack INDY"S top five against the Cinci area top 5 any day! Cherry pick a few more from FT.Wayne ...the Region and a few schools in the southern part of the state and we can build this team and pipeline real quick!

Yes, Indianapolis and the surrounding cities do have some talented teams. Brohm should be all in here. Also, I think it is important to get the local fan base excited about Purdue football again. The media has stayed away from WL for way too long.

Looking forward to the soccer fields packed with cars, tailgating and game day experience becoming fun again.

How hard is it to figure out that you need strong relationships with the high school football coaches in the state? I can see Hope struggling with this, but I am surprised that Hazell apparently had the same issue.

oh, wow.

I'm ecstatic about this new coaching staff, but it's living in the gutter to trash prior coaches while praising the new coach.

Not cool.

Then again, mark my words . . . it's going to be the same people who trash Brohm in the future. It happened when Tiller was building his legacy.

I wouldn't confuse supporting Purdue football with supporting Burke/Hazell. Just because you don't like the management doesn't mean you turn your back on the organization.

Of course not. It was just so damn frustrating to watch Burke and Hazell drive our program straight into the ground because neither had a GD clue about how to execute the functions of their jobs. What made it harder was the fact that some "fans" supported both clowns until the end of their reigns of terror.

Thankfully, that dark chapter is closed and I'm excited to see Brohm getting to work. Very optimistic for the future.

WOW! Didn't know he was actually living in the "GUTTER" for making a very logical comment! Point being made is , you can't succeed in this business if you can't recruit and build relationships in your own state! If you want to continue to play moral policeman.....than by all means be our guest!

you don't get it.
Let's be classy.
Or not.
Your choice. It's not about some "moral policeman", but claiming so sheds some light . . .

Any business that has a catastrophic failure will conduct a postmortem to figure out WTH went wrong. In this case, what went wrong was Morgue and The Haze.

Also the same people that were blaming Hope for everything for Hazell's first 2 years.

Hazell may well have been 3 light years away from his recruiting base rather then 3 hours. First his assistants recruiting in Chicago had no clue where to go or who to see. And that is why we haven't been successful recruiting Chicago in his tenure, embarrassing to say the least and a huge reason why he isn't coaching in WL anymore. Need to get back to getting 10 kids a year from Chicago. There here we just have to be committed to Chicago again. also great to see Coach B at center grove today. He is stepping on virgin ground recruiting in Indy, so besides not showing up there the past 3 years at least they didn't piss off the existing coaching staff there or their players. He will get it going again in the recruiting area. he's passionate, he wants to see Purdue be successful again, and he's willing to bust his tail to get it done. As he said its a war between whistles and he has the whistle in his mouth already!!!! Best of luck Coach.

Postmortem facts that sealed the fate of Haze...1.Frst and second recruiting classes had no depth of quality
players .
2.Wrong coordinators or coordinators that could not make use of what they had.
3.Poor Schemes
We should know how successful purdue will be in future years beyond 2017 by the coaching horses B gets and how he recruits these first two classes.....love to hear others thoughts....

What's just as frustrating, and damaging to PU football, is that so many PU fans thought the only effective way to show their disapproval of MB1/DH1/DH2 was to stop supporting the team and the program by not attending games. MB1 and DH2 were gone with or without the dismal attendance and apathy. Those just made it harder for the administration to justify the investment we see now. Nebraska fans are there for their program, regardless of the coach, and they've been able to force coaching changes, when needed. As a result, in the coaching world, Nebraska is viewed as a great job, largely because of the great fan base. Purdue is looked upon as a very iffy job for any coach, regardless of the AD, because the fan base is viewed as weak and fickle. Hopefully, Brohm won't have to win first to bring back the fans -- because winning in front of a half-empty home stadium is much harder -- and Brohm will need every advantage to get over the hump. Staying home in the Lazy Boy until the team proves it can win is what IU football fans do, not real football fans.

Goodness gracious BoilerBozo, I don't even know where to begin here...the stupidity is fierce with you.

You are chiding people for speaking with their wallets? Did you expect us to blindly support the slop that MB1/DH1/DH2 put together? Did you really expect people to endure lopsided blowouts week after week, year after year? Do statistics not mean a GD thing to you? No, they clearly do not.

If anything, YOU and OTHERS LIKE YOU are weak and fickle for not speaking up with your wallet. Do you really believe that if Ross-Ade were sold out week after week despite the slop product on the field, that MBob or Brohm would be here now?

Holy hell you are one dense buffoon.

Well, I knew you would bite, but I didn't think you'd be that quick about it! I'm impressed, not just with your ignorance, but also your reaction time.

Perhaps the most damaging thing MB1 did to Purdue football is create the expectation among our fans that "boycotting" attendance at football games is the most effective way to register disapproval. There are other, better ways, that don't adversely affect the team or the program's perception.

E.g., reducing JPC contributions sends the message without also telling the world that PU football fans don't give a $hit, which is what you and other like you have done.

Don't bother twisting to pat yourself on the back, if PU football does come back and flourish, it will be despite you and not because of you.

Consider too, if it wasn't for the BTN money, we could hardly pay MAC salaries to our football coaches, because we're sure as heck not paying these salaries out of ticket revenue!

MB1 plus fans like you would have been the death of PU football if not for the BTN. That's why most analysts consider PU a $hit job. Hopefully, Brohm and MB2 can change that. Meanwhile, I'm sure you'll sit at home and demand better, and then jump on the bandwagon last, if they do turn it around, and obnoxiously yell, telling us we owe the success to you for "demanding" excellence! You're so clueless you actually think you aren't.

Please, keep chiding people for speaking with their wallets and boycotting Purdue football...it further reinforces your idiocy.
Oh, and I feel just fine for not spending $$ on plane tickets, transportation to WL, lodging, and game tickets to watch shit football...and I don't own a recliner either.

You are one clueless idiot.

I'm not going to get into the name calling, but name one program that has endured so many losing seasons yet fills their stadium. Nebraska is an awful example. Their worst teams are like 7-5 and then they make changes and bounce back to 9 or 10 wins.
IU? no
Illinois? no
Syracuse? no
Wake? no
Virginia? no
Kansas? no
Colorado? no

People fed up with bad football and bad management is in no way unique to Purdue.

True but Nebraska is not competing with as many sports/entertainment options that Purdue does....
