Indiana at Purdue: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Heide and Colvin on the Aaron Wheeler training plan. Two of our best ever athletic talents and Fletcher Loyer is our best slasher.
This is such a depressing take because it is so true. Colvin has done nothing since ole miss and heide has been scrappy but hasn't done anything significant since texas a&m. Both look like post-frosh Aaron Wheeler. I think they will bounce back but not until next year as they are adjusting this year to how Purdue will play post Edey. Both need to get in the gym and work on handles and then focus on making shots under pressure. Also develop any type of offense beside being catch and shoot! Like offense is supposed to be fun. GO WORK ON IT! Develop a pull up/floater/attack the basket anything if your 3 pt shot is not falling. Purdue needs them both to develop in the worst way to make a big run next year.

Also too bad Mason didn’t stay. Doesn’t seem to be a fit with Duke at all. Well below his career norm in minutes. Assuming he would have stayed if it was known before hand that Catchings was leaving

Would have been extremely useful for this team
For the love of god let’s give this mason talk a rest.

While I agree, what do you guys ACTUALLY expect these guys to average from points and rebound and shooting %?

Do you guys understand how hard it is to just shoot 38%+ from 3 when you should 1-2 shots a game? Or go attack the rim when maybe that’s not your role and you’re told not to?

Just trying to put it out there that not all guys have to average 8 and 4 and shoot 50% from the floor. Painters system has role players next to his best players and that’s what those two are.

I thought Heide played well in spots tonight and he played hard. He added some much needed help. To Myles defense, he was still cheering from the bench, and I still attribute a lot to the HS competition he played being pretty weak.

Heide played 27 minutes and went 5 and 5 0-3 from 3. Getting 8-4 with those minutes should be a norm not the exception! He has more than enough minutes to contribute that on a regular basis. He is ice cold shooting since the A&M game. Colvin played 10 minutes and recorded nothing except 1 foul and 0-3 from 3. I want this team to be as good as it possibly can and these two need to hit their 3's when open. They both have been horrible shooting the ball or providing anything on offense in BIG play expect on lob dunks and the occasional offensive rebound by Heide.
Like I said I think they will work on their games toward what is needed now with Smith fully in control but probably wont come this season.

Nice to see someone being honest. At this time Colvin and Heidi are nothing more than role players. I know each player has a lot of fans here with real high expectations for both. But the reality is becoming obvious. And what happens next year when West arrives?

Sucks? Lol. Looking to next year.
Next year Purdue may be preseason #1.
With the NCAA tourney in Indy and TKR, Braden and Loyer all seniors... Add a true 5 who can hit the three (7'4" Jacobson) and Cox, Harris, Colvin and Heide.

Purdue is going to be top 5 all season long...

Half of IU's team is gone... if not graduating, transferring. Woodson will need to start over and he is a lame duck coach so recruiting will be much harder going forward.

What we are getting is a lot of variability with too many games where they give us 0-2 pts and 2-3 rebounds combined. Cox is a role player, and he's giving us more consistent play than they are, probably why he's starting and they aren't.

You're right it's hard to shoot a great percentage when you don't get a ton of shots. But today they shot 1-7. They should probably shoot better than that.

Colvin has had 0 or 1 pt in 8 out of the last 11 games
Heide done a little better but he's had 0-2 pts in 7 out of the last 11 games.

They each had 3 double digit games in our first 10 games, and only 1 between of the two of them in the last 12.
By comparison, Cox also had 3 double digit games in our first 10, but he's gone on to have 5 more in the last 12. He's also only had 0-2 pts in 5 of the last 11 games. Again, probably why he's starting.

Colvin is playing more minutes but both his 2 and 3 pt percentages are down from last season. He was as much a role player last season as this one. Same story with Heide.

By every metric, they've done less with more. I certainly am not calling for either of them to be anything but Boilers til they graduate, but they definitely are both in some sort of sophomore slump that I really hope they figure out a way to work out of.

Cool story bro. Indiana won't have Mike Woodson. That's good enough for me.

IU wanted this one. They were connected out there and Mbako, Galloway, Leal, Goode, Ballo were competing hard on both ends. I thought they would fold after Purdue took lead back and they didn't.

When Purdue can't hit their 3s the're going to struggle some. Colvin and Heide are slumping big time missing some wide open ones. If those start dropping again for those guys Purdue's ceiling goes up quite a bit. I hope they keep heads up and press through. TKR foul trouble doomed Purdue in 2nd half since they were ice cold from 3.

Is Myles Rice ok? With his cancer history I hope he is healthy. That last shot is never going to be foul on the road during last seconds. Text book D by CJ with hands vertical and no contact on shooters arm. Lower contact was minimal and initiated by shooter and was minor. From that little contact I don't see how he missed shot by 7 feet? Almost like he wasn't confident and was looking to pass in air or something......

IU’s 3 Indiana guys were clearly focused in this one. I think that rivalry games favor the underdog psychologically and IU played MUCH better than what I have seen in other games when I have had a chance to watch them this year.

I think that a lineup of Galloway, Leal, Goode, Mgbako, and Ballo could win IU a lot of games. Woody is playing the wrong guys from what I can tell. Mgbako is one of the most talented guys in the league, but he is much better at the 4 than the 3 to my eyes. He also plays off Ballo well, making it tough to bring help.

That all being said, Purdue had to earn this one. IU was playing like a Big Ten championship contender and was shooting the ball much better than Purdue on similar outside shots. Ballo was also a load that Purdue struggled to match up with and keep off the boards. Yet Purdue won and I point to several reasons: (1) points off of turnovers (which has been Purdue’s greatest strength in recent weeks) and (2) unbelievable offense by TKR, (3) Smith being Smith, (4) a really great all-around game from Harris, and (5) better ability to make plays in the last few possessions of the game. I don’t want to discount contributions from others, but those guys really stepped up in my opinion.
