In my 40 years as a Purdue fan, this is the worst football I've ever seen.

And he's recruiting at a very high level for Purdue. Has also shown he can beat the best teams in the nation. This isnt like hazell where we were clearly doomed from the start with the massive beatdown F'ing cincy gave us.
He has to get those recruits to play at a very high level if PU is to compete for wins. And yes, his team beat OSU, but lost to Nevada. Time will tell.

I agree, but wish he was bringing in another dt besides Austin.

The Auburn beating we took last year sticks out in my mind as the worst...we were dominated from the start.
We were dominated by superior athletes with overwhelming size. Illinois has neither of those things. Yesterday's game was as bad as I have ever seen consider the relative similarities between the teams.

Taking the bait....

I don't consider Purdue and Illinois to be "relatively similar." At all. Not in game script anyway. Look, we were beat in every facet of that game yesterday. That's not in debate. I told my brother, who went to Illinois, that the game would favor the team that could run the ball straight up the middle. He comically replied "gee who might that be?"

That being said, yes, we should have at least been able to compete with them despite the disadvantage with the weather and game plan. But once Jack made that horrible pass from the 10-yard line, the game was pretty much lost.

You've been anti-Brohm from the start. You were against paying him the contract to keep him from going to Louisville. You have your opinions, which are perfectly OK (that's why we're a part of this forum).

But my questions to you are these:
1) Who do we hire that does a better job with recruiting and building a program if he went to Louisville?
2) Do you honestly believe Danny Hope would get this program where it needs to be? He and his wife's reaction to him being let go told me everything I needed to know about how smart he is. (My apologies if I'm not recalling your huge support of Hope correctly)

Okay, keeping it civil I hate to say this, but I believe Minny got a better coach but I don't think we asked him, and there were several others that could have done what Brohm has done had he not come to town or left town. I hope he turns it all the way around, as I said when I first questioned his hiring and the subsequent ignorant contract extension and raise, but I've yet to see anything in his coaching that would allow that. PU ain't WKU, and WKU ain't in the B10.

Paying him the higher contract without having done anything was IMO asinine. He wasn't going to Lville because he knew the expectations would be too high in his home town. And no, I was never a Hope fan. BTW...did you see the Kansas/Texas Tech game? And yes, I would have rather seen Les here.

TD this is where you lose all credibility on this topic. ALL credibility. His accomplishments have been repeatedly laid out for you ... yet you ignore those points.

He wasn't going to UofL for 2 reasons: 1) because it was an absolute dumpster fire, and 2) because Purdue is a much better job right now.

You wanted Les Miles... when nobody else in the college FB world wanted him (except one of the all-time worst programs, next to IU).

TD, when it comes to this topic you have really clouded judgement.

fleck was interviewed. Bobinski didn’t order him the job

Your opinion my friend and I'm glad that you believe in him....he needs backers. Time will tell if Bobinski made a great, terrrible, or average choice. Two of those three aren't acceptible for the money being paid. As for Miles, I would have taken him over Brohm for sure, but I would also have taken PJ as well

As for his accomplishments, remind me again what he's done that deserves to be rewarded with that huge top salary and extension.

He hasn`t yet,but given time he will and that salary and extension keeps the Tenn.,Texas A.&M.,Florida State from poaching our coach

He's got all the backers he needs, and then some. At least you're willing to concede that "time will tell..." There isn't a coach in the country that could have taken over the disaster Darrell Hazell left in his wake and turn it into an overnight sensation. This isn't basketball, where one or two stud recruits will turn your program into a winner overnight.

Brohm has demonstrated the ability to get great skill players and turn them into stars as freshmen. Where that is simply not possible is along the OL and DL. He was able to plug holes his first two years with grad transfers. That didn't work out this year and we're feeling the effects of it. The litany of injuries to our best players has only exacerbated matters this season.

As for PJ Fleck, Minnesota can have him. They're having a great year, and good for them, but I want no part of his sideshow. Say what you will about his ability as a coach, but the guy is the biggest self-promoting clown in college football, IMO. I would not trade our current staff for Minnesota's, even if it meant being 8-0 vs. 2-6. Go watch some of the YouTube videos of his public speaking events. All of his repeated references to things like "Turdville" make him sound like a fairly articulate middle schooler. Schools will like him as long as he wins because that's the bottom line, but watch his schtick outstay its welcome real fast when he has a bad season or two.

And it's not close.
With all due respect you must be blocking out the Akers years, Hazel years and even Colleto years. Come on man. I’ve been a fan since the 80s and yes this season has been frustrating , but is no where near those other years. In those years not only was it bad , but we really didn’t have any hope for the next year. This coach is about to put back to back top 25 ranked recruiting classes together. It’s been a long time since that’s happened. Probably 35 years at least. Now step back off the ledge and see how it really is and how bad it really was. There’s is a very bright light at the end of this tunnel.

I am speaking specifically about the Illinois game.

I am not anti-Brohm. He’s doing a great job. I’m a big fan.

Ad hominem attacks on my intelligence, manhood or fortitude are nothing more than indications of your inability to formulate a response.

Can anyone else remember a game where we punted 10 times, had a pick 6 and dropped 8 passes, reached the red zone a single time, had our QBs yanked 3 times, and didn’t break 100 yards of total offense until the game was decided? That was ugly football, plain and simple. The ugliest I have ever watched.

I watched it all.

Put on your “This is a what a feminist looks like” tshirt and go be an ally to people who need it. Our coach and players know that was a shit show and they don’t need you to defend their honor.

I don't think the OP was saying that overall, the program was as bad as its ever been.

I think he was simply saying that the game vs. Illinois was just about as bad of a game execution wise he's seen from Purdue in 40 years. I wouldn't disagree. At least on offense. The D was good enough (17 points) to at least keep us in a game. The O....well we would have had to have been able to run the ball or even throw and catch it to have a shot...

Exactly. Your reading comprehension is light years above a lot of the nitwits on this board.

Lol. You caught me. I’m the one on here whining about a sport I don’t participate in and I need to evaluate my posting. Nice try
