Enjoying Purdue ball so much this season.... and I am anxious to see what Cline adds to the mix.......CS is so good and will be all B1G. DM & CS not only good players, but just great team guys too. PJT and Spike are really consistent and dependable, and although not difference makers, make no bad plays and let others excel in their place. Haas is such a powerhouse offensively and a real difference maker on that side. It is fun to see Haas, CS and Dakota work so well together.

But to take the next step, here are a few things I would like to see out of 4 guys on Purdue to make the best better.......down the road...

1. VE needs to work harder on D & increase ball security, and just add more overall hustle....Like to see Smotherman or DM start with CS at some time on the front line as situations allow ......to put pressure on VE and break VE out of his funk. VE to start the game on the bench might wake him up??

2. Smotherman... I love his energy... but his energy on the offensive side needs to be more controlled as he gets careless with the ball and seems to go to fast and do things without a plan resulting in a turnover or wild shot. The way he just doesn't value the ball enough -- sometimes drives me crazy. Get that taken care of and his minutes could really increase....and consequently making Purdue just that much better.

3. CE -- well he just needs a chance. I would like to see so many more minutes for CE as situations allow....Like others I see alot of potential with his needed quickness. He needs court time to gain confidence. As the season goes on I hope CE improves where he can continue to earn increasing minutes as things continue......I think that will be key for Purdue down he road. We will play teams soon where his quickness will be very needed. As he can develop into the difference maker Purdue needs at guard...Purdue will just be that much better.

4. Haas D....I would like to see Haas improve his court awareness on D.....positionally bump that guy off the pick and roll..and be aware of what is coming on D. He is so good offensively at getting position and executing efficiently, continued coaching on D (withing his abilities) though is his next step. Haas defensive improvement will be key down the road.

I like all of them but #1 is by far the most important. VE needs to get it together and soon. He seems out of it most of the time. Wake up!!!!

Don't know anything about Auburn, but is it possible for Purdue's on ball defender to slide behind the screen so that Haas doesn't hedge and get caught so much in space...or are they too good of shooters on the perimeter? If it isn't a ball screen, but pentration help that brings Haas to help...Purdue must get better at the secondary rotation as that has had a few flaws the last few games and that spells putbacks and offensive boards for Auburn. Last game a couple of times Purdue players got caught only seeing ball and not man as well as lack of talk on back screens that went for lobs and dunks...more clean-up work. Lastly, if Purdue is still having trouble containing the dribble and doesn't go to a zone that some want, does Purdue bring the wing help and give up the perimeter kick like they would with a zone anyway? WE shall see. I just hope we seen basketball and not a game of horse.

Painter nevers wants his guard to go under a high ball screen. He prefers to chase the high side. If it is Ronnie Johnson with the ball for Auburn however......i would adjust......we shall see.

I don't think it is that Matt doesn't want that...it is that he is afraid of the jumper. However, some players you may want to slide underneath...and Ronnie would be one. I seem to recall VCU as a game maybe Purdue should have slid under on the pg instead of chasing him from behind. :)

As far as I know, yes. Do you think he needs a babysitter so he can get more sleep??
Ha just thinking out loud I guess, sorry

Figure it's always an added pressure,
Maybe more so this year if he has no teammates that can relate (with RD gone)

Looking @ the 4 guys....progress tonight.....

1. VE took got back to playing in the second half.
2, CE got a chance and earned future minutes....just microwave tonight. Big step forward.
3. Smotherman was under control.
4. Haas D -- ?

I would like to add some Kudos to Coach Painter and his staff at this point. Prior to the second half of tonight's game, VE was the only player on the team to NOT show significant improvement in their game. Vince seemed to wake up, finally.

These guys are well coached. Our bigs (especially Haas) have really upped their game so far this year.

As these guys get more PT together, can the assist numbers possibly go up? Fun to watch TEAM basketball well executed..

Anyone notice in the second half that VE seemed to not force his offense and played tougher and gave a more concerted effort on D? I think that is what really led his second half turn around.

He sure did! Of all the good things that happened in the game, that pleased me the most. He plays like the 2nd half all the time and we are a very different team.
Everyone knows he has the talent. He is not selfish, which is great. However, if he would just keep his mouthguard in his mouth and play with a bit more emotion, the whole team would benefit.
I agree with the early bucket creating confidence with him. Confidence is YUGE!

I am wondering if we can play better than what we did last night offensively? That was a pretty impressive offensive display. Individually CS and Haas have had better offensive games, but as a team that was impressive efficiency.

Purdue can play a lot better offense, but I doubt they shoot better. The end of the first half was not a good display offensively and I admit that I was concerned with the tempo. I had no issue with getting them loose early, but the tempo was closer to Auburn's style than Purdue. Still, when you are making shots and get in the groove other things blend as well...and in fairness....part of that groove was the looseness on offense. It is a two edged sword and finding the right balance is key.

That said, the last couple of days were usual for Biggie, great for Dakota, getting rid of some outside shooting demons for Carsen, great for PJ and pretty good for Haas overall...in spite of a few times he tested the ball for air. As mentioned Vince got going, Taylor depressed, Spike hungry, Basil knocking off some rust and Cline remembering what playing in a game is like. Winning two games over previously undefeated teams on neutral sites by 20 pts is a step forward.

How in the hell did Purdue inbound the ball with Matt coaching against Auburn's initial pass coverage? He must have remembered how to do it with old films from all previous years minus the last couple of years. It was also good to see Purdue get more help earlier in the dribble containment and Haas giving slack on drives and still being big. I think Haas mostly had fouls on everything other than help on the drivers. All that said..."part" of that was Auburn not forcing contact and making the refs make a call. It was much more enjoyable watching the game after the lead got to double digits and Purdue generally playing smarter than the last part of the first half...
