Anyone think they will pull the upset tomorrow? Nice little warm up game today. Granted, Minny is awful, but Illini shooters were at least hitting open shots. I think if they can jump on Iowa early they might get the confidence to pull it out. But if Iowa starts out strong Illinois will lay down and quit. There's gotta be an upset somewhere, right? I'll give them a punchers chance.

There definitely will be an upset somewhere, maybe. This one depends more on Uthoff playing well or not.

FDB, I understand where you're coming from on upsets, and I guess there can be "wishful" thinking, but I just don't see it with Illinois.....even with TMHR's recent swoon.

Six conference wins for Illinois now:

Rutgers twice, Minnesota now three times.......and sadly.....Purdue back in January.

I know the Illini have had their share of injuries the last couple of years, but I don't know what the hell has happened in Champaign for them to have fallen as far as they have. Although, the Boilers were in the basement not that long ago so who knows.

On tired legs they might last a half, but I doubt it.
Disagree about tired legs. No one played more than 28 minutes today and they weren't exactly going all out. Groce actually got on them several times for dogging it. There are enough other reasons to like Iowa in this game, but fatigue won't be one.

Agree. You don't really see fatigue become a factor when it comes to 2 games in 2 days. When you start looking at 3 games in 3 days and playing a team off a double bye, then sure it can become a factor. But we've also seen it be almost an advantage in some cases.

I see maybe Michigan beating IU.......If IU shooting is off and Michigan is hot shooting it......

I want a Purdue/IU rematch though.....

I guess I need to take one game at a time and cheer for Purdue to beat Ill/Iowa first....

Boiler Up!

Getting used to,the rims, backgrounds and other factors of a neutral site while playing a walkover game can't be a bad thing.

What's funny is when it came to Stephens not playing his 4 minutes per game after he sat out 2 weeks was he would be to fatigued to do that... yet playing 20+ min. per game, 2 games in 2 days & others think it's not a factor.

I was thinking this was possible at first but the more I look at it I just can't wrap my mind around it. In conference, Illinois has beaten almost nobody of consequence in the Big Ten (yes, us being the only reason I had to use the word "almost"). It appears that we are the aberration and that Illinois hasn't beaten anyone else besides literally Rutgers and Minnesota. As bad as Iowa has been playing, I still can't see Illinois taking that game down unless they just have two players have a freakish performance out of nowhere like they did against us.

Well, it's starting to look like a very real possibility that we'll play Illinois.

I'm not sure how I feel about that. Either team offers a chance for some redemption, but playing a sub 100 rpi team in March is a high-risk, little reward proposition.

Well that's that.

Purdue better be ready. Looks like Illinois found some big boy pants.

Ok, FDB, I'll take my serving of crow......wow!

Would have been nice to get TMHR again.

Here to eat some crow.Sadly, not my worst call this year.
I wasn't quite confident enough to "call it" but had a feeling. Now time to pivot from rooting for the underdog to play their best to hoping they fall back to earth!

Not sure what to expect tomorrow. The key right now for Illinois is simple confidence. The same confidence they had on Jan 10. Purdue needs to come out strong, take care of the ball, make the easy plays, and methodically snuff out that confidence.

Hey I did not think it was possible. I apparently underestimated the depths to which Iowa has fallen. If we can beat Illinois I think we solidify ourselves as a 4 seed with possibly a chance at a 3 with another win or two.

I like our chances with fresh bigs against a tired Illini team

I wanted Iowa because we owe them 2. But Illinois is almost as good because this revenge win will surely lead to another. Btfu!

I wanted Iowa because it would be a low-risk game to lose and could really help us if we win.

I don't relish the thought of a sub-100 opponent in March, but it is what it is.

A great opportunity to avenge a really bad conference loss.

I'm with you. A chance to have a bad loss and the win doesn't help us at all.
Perhaps we caught a break and can crush them early. The team is playing well and just needs to remain agressive on offense. Beating teams easily wold help as well.

lunardi had iowa as a 6 seed today, what could they fall to now?

Would not be shocked to see them as an 8 in an 8/9 game. They've fallen hard. Best thing on their resume are 4 wins vs. MSU and Purdue-- they are very fortunate they played those games early.

Hammons/Haas weren't good against them the first time (Hammons only shot 5 times), we had 16 turnovers in our first meeting and played next to no defense.

Don't care if they are tired or not, play like we did in Champaign and we'll lose again. This game is about Purdue showing up to play.
