Sorry, not gonna happen. Getting thumped as bad as we did last week, it could be just as ugly again this week. We never can build on any win that we muster in the Hazz era..............one step forward, three steps bback............Trying to stay somewhat positive regarding our next game. Might be the most winnable game left on the schedule. Hoping the team can figure out a way to take it.

There is NO hope left for this team.
Illinois will win - and win handily.
IMO, this team has packed it in for the remainder of Hazell's tenure.
We'll see how they play for an interim coach in a few weeks...
Playing for yourself is not the same as playing for the coaches. They've quit as a team.I have hope so I know that there is some, even if it is just a little from me. I doubt that the entire team has packed it in either. I think struggling as a team gets confused with not trying on this board sometimes. I very much doubt that Replogle has packed it in. Same with Blough and probably many other players. Many may be down but I would guess that most have too much pride to have simply quit on themselves.

So really what you're pumped about is the possibility of going 3-9 instead go 2-10. Nothing will make this season look less like an armadillo dead in the road.
How can we win without any offensive tackles? How does a Div. 1 football program find itself with no tackles? Illini, as bad as they are, hammer us.
Sidenote: Purdue only has 5 home games next season...nice job Burke!
There are 6.
Ohio
Mich
Minn
Neb
ILL
IU
Sorry but after the debacles of the Cinncy and Maryland game, even a win against Illinois does nothing for me. I'll be happy as a Boilermaker and happy for the players...but it does nothing to change my perception of the program as a whole and of Hazell. My opinion would be much different if Purdue was competitive against Cinncy and Maryland and had lost (let's say 7-10 points even)...but Cinncy clearly let of the gas in the second half and Maryland absolutely crushed Purdue and could have put up 60+ if they left their starters in as long as Purdue did.
Hazell was gifted an easy schedule in his fourth year that could have been used to really show advancement in his building of the program...instead Purdue is placing a huge burden on the new coach by giving them two P5 major programs in Louisville and Missouri, a solid MAC program in Ohio (with Frank Solich), and opening up the B1G with Michigan (who will probably be a top 5 team next season). Welcome to Purdue Coach ___________________!!!!

I'm still going to step back and look at the season as a whole but that's not going to stop me from cheering for us along the way.
He may not be here that long.
8-32 tells me all i need to know.
IMO, if you start the season with a coach in college football, you give that coach the opportunity to succeed or fail for that season. I know many here didn't want him to start this season and I get that. I just think since the decision was made to go down that road it doesn't make much sense to pull the plug after 4 games sitting at 2-2.
If Purdue coaches make adjustments to get the ball out of bloughs hand quicker because of our banged up line, and we have success and somehow pull out a win...people should be excited we would sit at 3-2 after a win on the road. To me that would speak volumes about Malone and the makeup of the team...and go along way for the chance of making a bowl game. Getting Iowa at home the following week would look like a winnable game considering who they have lost to this year.
If we get throttled, then I expect the air will truly be let out of the team and it will be a long year.
A win this week should not be discredited considering all that is going on.
They also lost to Northwestern at home. They aren't exactly world beaters this year. You mean the Iowa team that lost to NDSU...which I am confident would probably finish at worst #3 in the West and #4 in the East this year in the B1G...and I'm confident in that statement.
I would say the probability of losing by 10-20 is pretty high but a beat down like last week isn't likely. I wouldn't be surprised to see a similar gameplan to Whisky last year where Purdue didn't throw the ball more than 7 times in the first 3 quarters to try and run the clock down and at worst keep it close/keep it competitive. If Illinois comes out, scores a TD on their first drive, stops Purdue, and scores again...the route is on because I think the players mail it in on Hazell. How many points do we need to lose by against Illinois to get Hazell fired?
Is there any hope Illinois is his last game with a big loss?

We score, but still lose. 31-13will definitely be closer than last week.
Illini 41 PU 9
I hope Jones doesn't play , to give his shoulder time to heal instead of playing hurt all season
I'm with you. I actually enjoy rooting for Purdue. I have exceptionally low expectations but I love college football too much to ignore it. We very well may lose every remaining game this season. But I'll keep rooting and I will then hope we right the ship with a great new hire. That being said, it wouldn't surprise me to beat ILL in a close game. But my prediction is we lose by around 10.I'm still going to step back and look at the season as a whole but that's not going to stop me from cheering for us along the way.

Sounds about right. If this is a blowout, I think you have to fire him. What do you think the points total has to be for Purdue and MBob to justify firing Hazell? I say 17 points and he is gone. A three possession loss to Illinois is inexcusable.
I don't understand the idea of rooting for Purdue to lose this game. The quickest way to relevancy and better recruiting is winning games. This is a major swing game for the season. Find a way to win and you sit at 3-2 with Iowa coming in for homecoming. All of the sudden that turns into an important game and something to be excited about in Ross-Aide next week.
Lose this game and it will be clear it's the end of the Hazell era....which has nothing to do with the administration supporting football better. Just means we are hoping the next coach can overcome the administration and the terrible perception of Purdue football.
