If O'Connell were not to come back, would Allen be the favorite to be the starting QB next year then?

We are not sure if O'Connell is coming back. On Sunday, Brohm has said that it is still TBD.

We know Plummer is leaving after the bowl game. We have only gotten to see Burton really run in a game. Alaimo has not played yet. Would Allen be the front runner for the starting QB spot next year then?

No. Brohms offense is not freshman QB friendly. Likely Alaimo or a transfer.
How has Alaimo done in practice and such? I would think by next year, his third in program, that he’d be ready. I was looking forward to seeing how good he could be when he committed. Surely he could be the guy by next season or that would be a letdown for me anyways

I heard there was a former ALL BIG 10 QB looking for a new school as a grad transfer. any thoughts of what Brohm would think about adding an experienced and former IU starting QB ? i already know what fans of this forum would say.

He was supposed to be doing well over the summer. Didnt look great in the UConn game, but Sindelar looked bad the first year he got garbage time too.

TL;DR - well know more next year.

I believe if AOC does leave, brohm will look at adding a grad transfer QB that has some starting experience as sort of an insurance policy.
Agree with that. Said as much in this thread. It won’t be a guy who is brittle

The thing with that like you were saying is that he also had young O linemen out there with him

If his offense isn't freshman QB friendly (which I agree with) is it also not transfer friendly?

At a minimum it might limit which transfers would be compatible.
Correct me if I’m wrong but he won’t even give former five stars guarantees, which is why we lost out (“lost out”) on Johnson

personally, i haven't seen anything from Alimo that has wowed me, but I could just stop at I haven't seen much of him period. Allen's potential with our receiving core would be awfully enticing.

Next years schedule is the most favorable we’ve had in a long time. Running out a true freshman would not be the best way to take advantage

Agreed. I think either Oconnell comes back and makes a heisman run or it’s alaimo

I agree but I think AOC comes back. He's going to throw his hat in the ring on that mock draft (whatever it's called) and see that he's not that hot a commodity. But another good season and he could be a first rounder in 2023.

Also, Brady Allen has been playing small school football and needs some adjustment time for the Big Ten. And he has dietary problems and needs to put on weight and add strength. Plus as mentioned, it's a complex offense and takes some time to learn.

He has dietary problems? Hadnt seen that.

I don't believe the transfer from UCLA is the answer. he's more of an option QB, and this offense has NEVER really been option oriented. the only reason our Qbs have run in the past was because of lack of protection on the o-line. and they ran outside to gain more time to throw rather than it being a running play. Maybe the player who transferred to Northwestern will come down and be a walk-on. he has experience. and he could pay in-state tuition. it's kind of hard to identify a pro style QB with experience who would be in the portal that would be better than what we have.

for all things considered, it would be awesome for AOC to return, and provide our young QBs another year to develop. However, next year will be Alaimo's third year at Purdue. it's not like he's a true freshman. he's either going to know our offense, or he's not.

I agree…I would say grad transfer.

Some decent, gettable options out there currently. More will shake free after bowls
Hard to imagine a grad transfer of quality being available and stepping in...

Ideally O'Connell returns.

If Alaimo is not the guy next year, he may never be, as while I can see Allen not being the guy immediately, he is going to be "the guy" sooner than later I think.

A lot hinges on O'Connell's decision.
