If IU pulls off this class of Sisley/ Mullins/Haralson/Reibe.....

So it went from IU is going to get Sisley, Reibe and Mullins to only getting Sisley.

Last year they got a kid from MontVerde then their season went south and he decommited.

Not saying history is going to repeat itself but it is certainly setting itself up for a repeat.
We’ll see how many games they lose and the coaches celebrate with cigars and red wine.

Didn’t they both play for the recent USA team, U-19? I remember reading that Jacobson played much better than the higher ranked Reibe.

Don't know about that?

But what I have seen on Jacobsen so far makes me excited to see him contribute this year. Watching these frosh grow and blend their talents to a great team adds fun to what should be another great year of basketball. Kinda another great subplot.

I know the Paint Crew is going to go nuts over his blocked shots, and I hope we see a lot of that this year.

Wait. They said "We don't want Reibe because we'll just get a better transfer with an NIL deal". Someone else posted "Why even have assistant coaches if they can't land recruits". The 'mercenary' thing might not pan-out for their program as expected.

Why does Purdue win so many games because our kids are truly invested and want to become better vs. Give me money and I'll give you what I want.

I’m doubling down on Jacobson! I’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t start from day 1.

Think about it. Jacobson would probably start on 75% of division 1 teams. The only reason one would question whether he starts at Purdue or not is simply because Purdue has so much other outstanding talent.

This could be the deepest and most overall talented team in the ncaa this year. Think about it, we lost out on catchings and Sisley and Mullins and haralson . And we lost Edey. Yet we are still regarded as a top 10 team because of all of the talent that remains.

And next year could be even better than this year.

Purdue basketball doesn’t need the nil to win.

A question for the old timers. We often talk about IU always wining the off season.

How highly thought of were the recruiting classes that included Isaiah Thomas. And Buckner and Benson and Landon Turner and Scotty May

I remember following Buckner from his high school days in Chicago. I remember other guards had a lot better stats, but he produced wins!

I remember Thomas was pretty highly regarded. But how great were May and Benson in high school?

I recall Bailey and Alford had great high school careers. But how high were they rated nationally?

I’m just curious , were these players awesome players in high school? Did the IU coaching staff develop them or elevate their game?

I wonder how these players would have done if they had played for Keady? And how many of these players were actually recruited by Keady?

Benson only made the State Finals in his sophomore year losing in the afternoon game to Elkhart Central in OT, in his junior year New Castle lost to Yorktown in the New Castle Regional, and lost again in the New Castle Regional his senior year.

Thomas, Alford, and Bailey were 1st Team AA. Not sure about May and Benson.

Keady wasn't a very good recruiter. Yeh, he got the Big Dog and the Little Dog was highly rated, but overall, he didn't stack talent. Frank Kendrick was the main recruiter but he got in trouble for a silly violation.

Berg has put in the work. He’ll see the floor more that Jacobson at least the first 1/4th of the season. After that he’ll start over Berg. Jacobson is way too talented, IMO. His rebounding, scoring touch, calm demeanor and blocking will be too important for Painter to discount. Get him used to the grind, petty-fouling and get some of the “dumb-freshman” turnover stuff out of the way. Berg will be a great back-up IMO.

It will be interesting to see how DJ compares to Matty H, both in year one and as his career progresses. Matt played a lot early (17 mpg as a freshman), but that was largely driven by the fact that IH was the only other true big on the team and he could only play a certain number of minutes.

I'd guess that DJ won't be as impactful as Matt in year one because the overall depth of talent at the 4 and 5 is significantly better than it was for the '17/'18 season. I'd expect and hope that DJ's development and upside are much higher than Matt's. I liked Matty H. as a player but he never really progressed past being a nice complementary piece who was an impactful shot-blocker and good on slips to the basket off of pick and rolls but was pretty average in most other areas.

If Jacobsen makes the leap he did over the past 6-9 months for the next 6 months - it is highly likely that he over takes Berg in the starting lineup. It isn’t a knock on Berg but I think Jacobsen brings something more to the table.

Said it before but there might be some ups and downs to start the season as we dial in the rotations but think it will be a well oiled machine come February. Floor for me is S16 and a FF as our ceiling. Tourney is always a crapshoot depending on seeding.

That non con being so crazy should help everyone…especially the Frosh and Berg
