If Allen is Scared of Competition from Card…

You don't think the staff talks to the qbs about where they are after a season. Do you think it's possible that hiring a new head coach with a new oc didn't cause some thinking on every offensive player....where do I fit in this scheme....is this the best fit for me....etc. no doubt we got a qb because of fit and the scheme. Why wouldn't we lose one? If you were in bradys shoes what would you be thinking. One big reason for the new portal was because coaches can do whatever they want like brohm and kids are stuck playing for guys that didn't recruit them and in schemes that may not fit them. Brady decided it was best for him to leave. Unless he shares his reasons...nobody knows why.
If I were in Brady’s shoes I’d bet I’d be the starter next year at some point. Card is not an elite talent IMO.

I'm guessing Allen had a sit down with Walters and the new OC, was told "You're going to have to earn the starting position and we're also going to try and find a top flight QB with P5 experience in the portal"

Maybe Allen wanted to be told it was his job to lose? Or that his skill set didn't necessarily fit what they were looking to do on offense.
Whatever it was, he didn't like it and thinks his best opportunity to play and show his skills isn't at Purdue.

Totally wrong !! Card did not come here without a promise of the job . Allen hasn’t even had a look , and would have been fighting for the backup job . And with 2 years of Card Allen would be waisting his time
I disagree with this. Allen has been working with Brees under the watchful eye of the new coordinator. I am sure that the two coaches have been running him through stuff that would be the future offense and Allen now feels he would be behind the new transfer with weaknesses he couldn't overcome in his mind. I am OK with this. Allen gave it a shot.

I highly doubt they have done anything involving the new offense.

But....Card has been through the battles at a big time P5 school. He's played against teams like Bama and others. He supposedly a dual threat with good scrambling ability (which we'll need with a depleted OL next year).

On a related note, the ncaa said players can play in bowl games and not lose their red shirt status. The citrus bowl would have been a great opportunity for Allen to show his talents. I doubt burton plays the entire game

He's been through the battles and lost every time. He's played against big time teams like Bama and others and looked really bad. There is a highlight package of his game vs. Bama. He was downright awful vs. them.

This guy is not the next in line for being considered a cradle QB.

I think him not starting (maybe not even playing at all) in the bowl game and knowing Mr. Card was coming in are the reasons. Card wouldn't come here if he wasn't going to be the instant starter. The portal has made it easy to start a new life. Good luck to him. There goes playing the Brady Bunch theme song from our band, after a touchdown.

he was 14 - 22 for 158 yds coming off the bench in week 1 vs the no.1 team in the country

Good luck to Allen. Wish he toughed it out, Blough did pretty well even though everyone put sindelaar in front of him. I understand feeling you got recruited over and wanting a fresh start however.

We have a depleted OL next year?

I don’t share the sentiment. I think we have 4-5 confirmed starters but no depth behind them. Will need to hit the portal and grab 1-2 more.

Who are the starters in your mind?

Holstege is gone. Hartwig is likely not ready by opening of season.

That leaves us:
Moussa
Mbow
Kaltenberger
Finau (if he comes back)
Miller (if he comes back)

Moussa and Mbow are great. Miller is meh. And Kaltenberger is OK. No one else on the roster has had much playing time.

The OL is not in good shape...

If he didn't light up a weak team like Alabama, then he must be awful. Great observation.

Putting up 19 points on Bama isn’t great. And Card wasn’t even in the game for the first 10 points.

6 other teams did better. And Bama lost twice. This is not one of Sabans better teams.

Card looked below average in that game. No other way to put it.

Some of you guy must see the the negative in everything....first game of the year and comes in as backup....probably minimal snaps leading up to game....go ahead scoring drive late in game....defense didn't hold up in last minute...ya he played losey...come on...his overall stats in 4 games impressive....brought here cause he is mobile with a good arm to run RPO next yr!

He's a great fit for the short and intermediate passing game that Harrell will be running. He brings a ton of mobility along with it. Looking forward to seeing him play...

Because Card was the only guy on the field....and this was the only game he played.

Let's go back and judge AOC, Blough, or any other quarterback on the first game they played.

40 minutes of atrocious offense was enough to judge him. More talent surrounding him at Texas than Purdue. He will be a disaster.

You have expressed your opinion, over and over. You haven't even said " I hope I'm wrong". And you have called people " not true boilermakers"? Oh my.
Hope is a bad strategy in anything. I’ve seen him with my own 2 eyes. He’s bad

I’ve seen him with my own two eyes as well and I think he’s pretty good. Maybe you’re right and I’m wrong but at the end of the day the opinions of people who are paid to evaluate talent seem to be closer to my opinion than yours. I guess 11:1 td to int rate isn’t a very promising stat line…

Would it be too much to ask to give him a chance? Or does your own advice not apply to you, just to others?
I’m just warning you all. I’ll tune in and watch the disaster. It’s a bad move by Walters to push out Allen to being this guy in tho.

So. Let me get this straight. You started this thread by saying that Allen is not a true Boilermaker, and are now saying that Walters made a mistake “pushing him out”. Clearly you are here just to stir the pot with your negative takes. At least that’s what I hope because the other option is that your just a moron

I could say something similar to you that you said to me in another thread, which is: Don't bother tuning in, "we don't need you". But that would be kinda stooping to your level...

So who named Burton starting QB for the bowl game? Please don’t tell me Brian Brohm. What is Burton’s future in football anyway? What’s his future here? Should have been Allen. Be interested to see where Allen ends up.

Do I have the sequence of events right:

1. Allen says he’s staying
2. Burton named bowl game starter
3. Allen hits the portal

Oh I know Purdue doesn’t need me. I’ll just watch my alma mater win another national championship this year…

You don't know shit from shinola. He played the Texas game on a sprained ankle. He's better than anyone else we had on the team, including AOC.

Hahaha. AOC has thrown for like 9000 career yards in basically less than 3 years of games. What’s Card done?
