He has recruits coming in next season but will he get the playmakers he needs to execute the way he wants or will it take a couple of years?

I don't think he looks at it like "his guys" or not. He's going to try to win with what he has and all the players on the field are "his guys" no matter who recruited them to Purdue. Obviously you hope the talent level gets better and deeper over time but I don't think he's using it as an excuse to not win now.

All the players are his guys. Purdue is really in need of some speedy play makers to stretch the defense. I am sure he will recruit some fast legs.

New recruits take time to bulk up and learn the playbook . Are you really asking how long you think it will take for Purdue be a top 25 type team? I would say 3 years hopefully.

Of course he’s going to try to win with these players. And he isn’t making any excuses, which I appreciate...he picked these players, they didn’t pick him.

But it’s also true that the types of players he wants to sign is different than the players hazell signed. Running his philosophy (or even having one) requires a different skill set.

By next season he may have a handful of players that he is use to for his offensive style. Seems like it may take 2 or 3 years. I was hoping it would be sooner but hazell was terrible with his recruiting classes.

all of the current players are his guys. if they didn't buy into him and his philosophy and his system, they had the opportunity to leave. if he didn't want somebody, he had the opportunity to tell them to leave. and if you paid attention in the off season, you saw there was a huge exodus of hazell's players. Where did they go? Who cares?. they are no longer here.

a better question would be how long before we see elite players buying into Brohm's system? maybe 1-3 years., maybe longer.

Take a look at Brohm's last recruiting class. Many of the players were transfers from WKU. I'd have to say they were Brohm's guys. Many of the players in that class were low level 3*s and some 2*s. Brohm recruited them and signed them. Would he rather have signed some different, more elite players? Yes. But these are the guys he signed, so yes, they are his guys.

Look at our Wide receivers. They've been taking a lot of heat lately for a variety of reasons: dropping passes, not fast enough, not getting separation. Four of those receivers were hand picked by Brohm last year: Wright, Zico, Holmes and Hamilton. Two of those players were jucos, and one was a transfer from Notre Dame. those are Brohm's guys. Yet, only one (Wright) is really contributing. There has to be a reason why Phillips and Anthrop are starting. I just mentioned 4 of Bbrohm's guys. Do you want Brohm to add more of the same type of receivers?

or is what you are asking: when is Brohm going to acquire some really elite athletes to play for Purdue? That's what you really want to know. When we beat IU and Northwestern, you'll start to see those better athletes surface. at this point, Brohm's second recruiting class is almost full. the players you're hoping for probably won't arrive until 2019 or 2020 at the earliest.

Taking juco players is a crapshoot especially for a coach that's not been recruiting them long.

Wright was a guy he recruited at WKU so he knew what he was getting. Zico has potential and should step up in year two as most juco players do. Holmes is no longer on the team and was worth a gamble to bring in. He just didn't fit what Brohm was looking for.

Smart and Higgins were recruited very quickly and didn't have much time as they needed bodies. Higgins should contribute next season as he's new to playing DE. Smart may or may not return next season. They knew he needed to get into the weight room this spring so not sure how that plays out.

I'd anticipate a couple of grad transfer players again. Most of the freshmen and incoming freshmen need time in the weight room before really contributing.

The LB's will play a big role next season and Allen, DT, will need to contribute as well. The freshmen DB's are crucial for next season. Lots of size and athleticism however no experience at all.

There will be some players moving on after this season to make room for another group of Brohm's guys.

Jucos are jucos for a reason and that reason is usually not good.

Yes and they usually take until second season to perform. Higgins was a juco not because of grades but because he gambled on himself to get better and get a better offer.
