Harbaugh rumors of leaving picking up some steam

Yeah but the for and and are places people have avoided for my entire life if not longer lol. I’m not scared of wannabe mfers in uptown dude .. two slices and a RC.. $7 .. but then I come from a unique background lol

the biggest problem is the mandate to me ..
I'm not "scared", either. I'm simply irritated we have a "ruling class" who thinks this is all perfectly acceptable.

Not sure how many people need to give them (those in the "ruling class") the middle finger before they get the message.

Oh I’m not happy about it. I don’t think we have a good prison system in this country BUT I also don’t think you should be able to steal a car and be back on the street at 4 pm.. what the hell is that?

Bears makes some sense given there may be an emotional connection as he was drafted by them and spent the east part of his career there. He’s also a midwest boy and they don’t have a crazy owner. I think he’s a pretty committed catholic and chicago is full of em. He also has several young kids and Chicago is a bit more family friendly.
Never mind...if you listened to the press conference today, the fact that it makes sense is totally why it does not make sense...that organization could not be more inept, and, it is why they have had the problems that they have, and, stand to continue to have them barring just some unbelievable good fortune...if they happen to hire someone that wins, it will be despite them, not because of them.

Pretty confident that everyone...literally...could give them the middle finger and it would not even register with, much less genuinely concern anyone.

The disconnect has never been greater.

Agreed.

There's a significant number of people fleeing the infested h*llholes, but there will be NO shortage of excuses.

I'm not here to rag on Chicago. Indy, and other major metro areas, have similar problems.
My bro was head basketball coach at Bloom Trail High School in Chicago Heights for 21 years. Teachers used to carry guns under their car seats. They would form small herds in the high school parking lot to walk into the school in the morning. Same going out of school in the evening. There are NOT similar problems in Indy.

Understood, and don't disagree.

With respect, "similar" does not mean "same".

Indy is experiencing a growing problem with violent crime. It's affecting the normal activities in casual environments in the downtown area. Mayor Boss Hogsett has his head up his arse, as does the rest of Indy "leadership" (an oxymoron, for sure).

I can almost tell who the Bears fans are - those with no hope (my god, some of them are jealous of having Irsay as an owner). :D Take solace, Bear fans, things are rarely as bad as they seem.

Actually, looking at the guys that are known to be interviewing for the GM job, there is reason for optimism. I was leery of an 80 year old Polian advising here, but the candidates are strong. The bears GM and HC jobs are primo, the best available right now, so there is a ton of interest from the top candidates. They could actually get this right.

Speaking as an Indiana taxpayer, I'd love to get shid of Irsay. Taxpayers built a billion-dollar stadium for his Colts to play in and his lease is only $250,000/year. We, the people, are getting hosed.

I would agree on the whole, but, given the ineptitude of the organization (and, even that is generous as it is really just the ineptitude of the family), if they are fortunate enough to get this right, it will be the result of luck/good fortune. And, while they are appealing openings high level, there is that whole thing of having to work for/with the family that often gets in the way (largely due to an unwillingness to spend even the least amount of money).

I disagree with the idea that Bears ownership gets in the way or is cheap. George is a weird guy but I don't think he is always meddling in football operations. He has no idea how to run a football club and doesn't pretend to or try to. This GM/HC combo is going to have 100% control and won't be meddled with. They have now even changed the structure and they won't be reporting to Ted, but straight to George. George even said some thing to the effect of "the new GM will have to teach me how to be his direct manager" lol

Money won't be a factor, they are going spend billions on a new stadium, they will hire and pay staff, and they will pay players.

Sounds great in theory, yet, in reality...who have they paid? Cutler?

They are cheap...notoriously cheap for that matter.

And while they don't consciously get in the way, their incompetence does get in the way.

George is indeed weird, but, to your point, he is not always meddling (as, to your other point, he has little idea as to what is happening in general).

The last GM/HC combo had 100% control...THAT is not the issue...they have made lousy hires for both roles for some time, and, the fact that the same people are making the hires yet again, as I said, if it does indeed work out this time, it will be the result of luck/good fortune, not because they did anything different or suddenly realized what it is that they are doing (or, should be).

speaking of violent crime, they said on the news this morning that Philly already has 17 homicides this year

david Kaplan said on Dakichs show that Chris Ballard passed on the Bears GM job because Ted Phillips was still going to be involved.

Hey at least they didn’t promote their failure of a GM to Club President !

So the Bears dodged a bullet potentially because of their having someone involved that had no business being involved...yet, at the same time, in turn pointed the gun metaphorically right back at their foot and pulled the trigger just by having someone involved that had no business being involved (Phillips)...that seems very Bears-esque.

Amen...crazy that it was even a possibility, never mind good one, but, to your point, yes...at least they did not do it...sad that THAT is something to celebrate, but, such is the life of Bears fans at this point.

Not buying that. Ballard just didn't get the job because Pace blew Ted and George away in the interview. They chose Pace, and Ballard has been feeding media types ever since. Ever wonder why Ballard is such a media darling?

Who was the last good GM the owner of the bears hired? Hint - he left the bears when I was like 9 years old

I just don't get the cheap argument. They made Mack the highest paid guy, Quinn makes a boatload. Jimmy Graham lol. They paid Goldmanm, EJax. They had given both Leno and Massie contracts. Whitehair too I believe. Trevathan still makes a bunch. What are they really supposed to do to not be cheap?

Kaplan swore that story was true. And I’m not a Ballard fanboy. Just passing on what I heard.

Yeah who knows? I just know that it was out there at the time that Ballard was pissed he didn't get an offer and was talking alot to the media off the record. It's why you have never seen a critical word about him. He talks to them.

You can’t be “cheap” under the salary cap structure. The Bears spend their cap money and it’s a hard cap. Some teams are more aggressive and do flashy deals that appear high but not guaranteed and they end up paying less to their active players and a lot of dead money. Bears traditionally have been more conservative with their players and as a Bears fan appreciate this approach very much.

the bears issue is not in being cheap, to me it was 100% Ryan Pace. It was like with Pax on the bulls. A bad GM resulted in a terrible coaching hire and terrible drafting. That is the root of the bears problems. I think the bears gave up on some good players due to cap room but it was more that they flourished under a different coaching staff such as Floyd and Leno. The handling of QB position through Paces tenure was just a head scratcher. But they spent the $ in free agency. Quinn was a great add.

back to the original post. Sounds crazy but a Theo Epstein / Jim Harbaugh / Vic Fangio package would be awesome. Epstein’s brilliance can really be best used in a framework of cap management vs the guardrails Cubs management put on payroll. I think harbaugh can manage Fields and get this offense back on track. And Fangio could be defensive head coach again and he’s got enough talent they could be elite if they aren’t on the field as much as they are.

They are required to spend money (thankfully) by the league, so, they have spent it on some guys...but, they don't spend it on GMs or Coaches, and, they don't spend it in pursuit of players, or, retaining their own more often than not.

They spend lavishly on their own offices, but, they don't pay for quality coaching staffs...they don't spend on a QB (which is how they ended up with Dalton)...they don't sign top free agents (yes, to your point, they spent money on some guys, but, they did not spend it on the best guys...that said, even if they did, with the incompetence of ownership, maybe GMs/Coaches/Players would not come anyway...maybe that is even an obstacle at the moment, we will see).

Here is an idea...and hardly a novel one...in that they fully admit that they essentially know little about football and next to nothing about running a team, spend some money on a quality individual to be the President of Football Operations, who in turn would get to lead the search for the next GM and HC, rather than try to continue to save a buck and do it with the same two boneheads leading the search that have led it in the past, and, stand to lead it again in about 4/5 years.

So? Would some rando billionaire be better? Odds are they would be just as clueless. Looks at Khan and Tepper.
Any other random sampling would be better.

they are nothing but Walmart children who are grandchildren of a great man. They don’t know what they think they know, they never will, and most random liquor stores that are thriving .. would be closed in six months if they were owned by that family of incompetents.

there’s a reason the bears are always trading their draft picks for other teams stuff and never the other way around .. and from Rick mirer (lmao you’re defending people who thought that a guy who wanted to trade a first rounder for Rick mirer should have a job! You can’t see how hilarious that is) to suckler to what they gave up for fields there’s one common denominator

I’m flat telling you the bears will never prosper until that family sells the team OR they get rid of Ted Phillips, hire a sought after football man.. and then go away, shut up and let said man do his thing

Yes. I was there in November and loved it. A great city.
Some people watch too much tv .. have I been to Indianapolis? Yeah.. it’s fine. Because I’m not insecure about where I’m from I don’t need to make it out to be something beneath what it is. Seems like people there have a good time when I stopped at bazbeaux to grab a pizza on the way out of town

yeah beetle juice, porcelain prince and their mandates suck. But they aren’t enough to make chicago something other than an international City full of life, culture, history and perhaps the best food in America (though I’d probably go nyc especially on pizza)

oh yeeeeeah.. it’s the off-season. Even though I’m 16 days into an 84 day no cheat day routine .. who wants to talk about food lol

I already know I’m gonna go through this with my girlfriends mom. Great lady… she thinks Chicago is downtown and 59th and halsted

They ended up with Dalton since he was their best option. They were desperate after the Trubisky failure and Watson would have been a terrible move. The owners did the right thing in firing pace.

I wasn’t ripping Chicago, just pushing back on the “more family friendly than Vegas” narrative, as far as a reason Harbaugh would choose the Bears job over the Raiders job.

Indy has neighborhoods just as dangerous as Chicago’s worst ones.

I'm not defending anyone, especially for anything about a Rick Mirer trade that happened in 25 years ago. Nopt sure why you needed to rattle off all that nonsense.

They're not going to sell, at least not any time in the near future. And it doesn't matter. Ted will be retired within the next couple years, he is there now only to close on the racetrack and get the stadium going. If you wanna really be real here, there is one reason and one reason only that they have struggled so badly: they have literally never had a great QB. Never. Not one. The Fields trade is amazing if he pans out.

Plenty of reasons for optimism.

Not sure why? Because the mccaskeys are the common denominator dude.

and of course you can play the “they aren’t going to sell and you can’t make them” card. Ok.. but I don’t have to watch or have any expectations and I can ask people I know before the season “you know what’s gonna happen right?”
