Will be interesting to see the team's performance Friday night! Despite all the words that the Louisville game was not a moral victory in the words of both players and coaches, player wise will they seize the moment Friday or come out flat and complacent , thinking they have this game in the bag. Hoping that Brohm and staff will have them ready to stop Ohio's run game and play just as enthusiastic as they did Saturday. I would bet they will come out fired up for the home opener under the lights but the team is still young and inexperienced in winning!

I look for Purdue to have same intensity as Louisville game. When we thought Purdue was done a couple times on the goal line, then defense stepped up and caused turnovers, that says a lot about the team. Just get the offense clicking and it should be all good.

Ohio is known to be a good team so this game is not a guarented win. I am sure brohm and his staff will have the players ready to play. I love the intensity of the defensive coordinator. Need to get the win because tough mizz. And michigan follow.

The problem is that our effort has to be at an optimal every week as our talent and depth are lacking. Ohio U would have been favored if Hazell were still coaching.

First, there's a difference between talent and coaching. I think we're seeing that we have some decent talent, as well as areas of weakness that need to be (and are being) addressed.

Second, Brohm and his coordinators showed that, no matter the pedigree or experience, even they make tactical mistakes at key times. The last offensive series was bad, IMHO.

Finally, Hazell is gone. The constant Hazell bashing is akin to constantly badmouthing the old girlfriend. Bitterness isn't becoming. Move on.

Yep. This game every bit as important as the Louisville game even though it won't get the same build up. This is still their best opportunity at a non conference win and it is not going to be an easy one. The Louisville performance was an eye opener for the fans.

Win the Ohio game and the perception of the team among fans is further enhanced. Lose it and in many ways it will feel like we're back at square one.

Boilerstutz wasn't bashing Hazell, he was just stating a fact. We are only a small favorite over Ohio, so based on the sampling size we saw with Hazell, I have to totally agree that if he was still coaching this squad we would not be favored to win on Friday. Anyway, I will move on now. As far as the game goes, I completely agree with TC4Three. This game and a win is crucial if we are going to build on the momentum we got from our effort against Louisville. Tougher games lie ahead, we need to get this one! I think we get it done, 35 to 28.

Can a team on an 8- game losing skid with 5 wins v. FBS opponents in the past 4 years really be in a "trap" game?

I think this is the one part about this Friday game that works to Purdue's benefit. The fact it is the first night home opener on a Friday with the new lights & the new helmet (and possibly uniform look) will help push the players for that extra bit.

Exactly. I feel like our fanbase is acting like we beat Louisville and all of the sudden are a top flight team that should easily beat MAC opponents. A trap game or a Letdown game requires one of the teams to be a top flight team. Until we start consistently winning games, there is no such thing as a trap game or Letdown type of game....
This game is basically a tossup in my opinion and probably whomever turns the ball over less is going to win.

Yeah he was, and that's okay. Hazell's coaching was bad. But his time here is over. Time to move on, as I stated.

Why is it on Friday? Scheduling conflicts? I thought there was kind of a gentleman's agreement to leave Fridays to the high schools.

The one bad decision Delaney has made in the last few years (waiting to see about the BTT in New York).

I am certain they are going away from it after Fitzgerald and other coaches had a big outcry about Friday's being for the high schools.

Just for argument's sake - I think he was just stating a fact that would have been if he was still coaching. Almost more a fact than an opinion, in my opinion. Yes we lost to Louisville, but by a mile the Louisville game was the most inspired our team has looked in over 4 years! If you want to move on and defend the guy that is fine; I am almost ready to move on, but I am still pissed over the $7,000,000.00 he stole from us in his 3 and a half years here. Ok, I am done ranting now...moving on...(I think).

One more clarification, Hazell has the worst record of any Purdue coach in its history for any coach that coached multiple seasons. Moving on now...

Geez, apparently we are paying Hazell the remainder of his contract minus his salary with the Vikings. So, we are going to end up paying the guy like $10 million before its all said and done. This was all Morgan Burke's fault. A 6-year contract to someone so unproven with one winning season at Kent State with mostly players he didn't even recruit; unbelievable! The more I find out the details, the more incomprehensible it becomes! Glad it is in the past! Moving on now...

How are you just now finding this all out? It was beaten to a pulp on here.

This was because our incredibly smart fans thought Danny Hope had to go right then and there.

My apologies to the board, I did not realize this. I was so glad when Hazell was gone, I didn't bother paying attention to the details back then. Also, to be honest, I usually post on the basketball forum, but not too often here given the previous state of our football program. Not that I am a fair weather fan or anything, I just couldn't put myself through it mentally. I really liked what I saw (for the most part) against Louisville so I may be able to take actually watching Purdue football again, instead of just checking scores.

I think peeps need a reality check that this is Ohio and to stop confusing this game as if it was against Ohio State. Don't understand the culture of putting the opponent on a pedestal. It's time to man up. If this is not an obtainable win then Purdue doesn't have an attainable win on the schedule. Alabama fans don't think like this and I am really glad the Army didn't during WW2. If even 1 player has any doubt as to who's going to win this game they need benched immediately.

Yeah, I got that. But, he's not. Which was the point.

I doubt you realize he formed a search committee.

It still is what it is (and was, a bad hire), but he did exactly what he should have done.

Good to know you've been paying attention. . .

Thanks...I have never placed a sports bet so I am always a little confused by the +'s and -'s. Thanks for the clarification.

Easiest way to think of it: you are betting on Ohio's points + 4 to beat Purdue's points. Purdue -4 means you are giving 4 points to the other team and Purdue would have to win by more than 4 to win the bet. A move from 4 to 3 just means that Purdue only has to win by more than one score to cover. It is only to entice betting.

I would call this game a lock, but most will stay away from it because of the last 4 years at Purdue. There is no trust. Ohio isn't much better, so it is purely to entice a bet to an otherwise overlooked game.

Unrelated to betting, this is a must win game. I think Purdue should win by at least 10 points to keep the 4-6 win optimism alive. A win is a win, but the schedule doesn't allow letting these winnable games slip through the fingertips. Purdue needs to show they can pummel inferior teams.

I hope that the fight and fire we saw last week in this team we see again tonight. It's sad to be worried about a MAC team, but it is where the program is at this stage. Should win going away assuming we don't give the ball away. I think we can move the ball on Ohio and I think our defense can stop the Bobcats given what they showed last week. 35-21 Boilers.

I see the program has caught the attention of some fans who have not been paying close attention the past 5 years or so..
Newsflash: We are 1-4 the last 5 games against the MAC. That's straight up, not against the spread. 1 WIN AND 4 LOSSES. Until it proves otherwise, Purdue is essentially a MAC team and not a very good one at that. That label is not going away until the team goes out and proves it. Set your expectations accordingly and enjoy the rebuild. Despite some positive signs last week, things have not suddenly change overnight! Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will this football program. So, just set aside the "we are a Big Ten team and are above being concerned about a MAC team" attitudes and just get into the damn game. It's going to be a dog fight! Like it or not, beating a good MAC team by even 1 point would be a show of progress and something to be proud of.

The entire staff has changed and a vast majority of the starters have changed. This isn't close to the same team or staff they have had. Though I agree that is the hang up, a loss here would be very surprising given all that has been shown this summer and last week. I don't blame people from avoiding the game, and that's why the point spread is so low. I will, however, call this a lock. If CJB is what we think he is, Purdue by 3 scores. A 13 to 21 point margin of victory sends a message. We back baby! BTFU.

I love being excited about football again.

Hey, I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer, but you can almost feel the balloon ready to pop after last week. It's just too easy to just say, "Ok new coach, let's see what you got! If you are worth anything you'll beat this MAC team easily. If not, I have my pitchfork at the ready!" Ok, let's just save that attitude for a few years down the line. The rebuild of very bad teams is typically a multi year process. That was discussed ad nauseam in the off season and generally accepted. Now, we are competitive in one game and some are expecting to be right back in the saddle as MAC smackers. Vast majority of starters have changed? Yes! Like losing the 3 leading receivers, top DLineman, top DBack, both starting Guards.. Probably at best a net wash talent-wise.
Wouldn't you rather be pleasantly surprised if the rebuild is ahead of schedule than be disappointed if it isn't? Let's just get behind the team and let it play out instead of worrying about why we are only favored by 3 against a good MAC team.

Where did all that worshiping go? Oh wait what I said 7 years go came true???? Hire a man coach instead of a sissy head and all the sudden Purdue looks like a normal football team?? Oh wait time out... so ya'll was doubting a win against Ohio non Ohio State? Realllllllly????? I would of thought Ohio to be a god the way they where advertised here.

In all seriousness it is refreshing to see a coach put the shmack down when needed instead of taking it standing. Brohm completely reversed this nonsense in a mere zero games. It's a complete 180.

You were saying? Maybe it's time to shed your defeatist, loser mentality and get on board. This coach and staff are the real deal. Brohm is an offensive savant. We scored 44 points and had 558 yards of offense. Ohio is a running team and we largely shut it down. They are among the favorites to WIN the MAC. We haven't played this well since the earlier Tiller days.

Mizzou on the road will not be easy, but Purdue can beat them. Mizzou has a good offense, but their defense is bad. FCS school Missouri State scored 43 points on them last week.

Not sure about the defeatist, loser mentality part. However, after two games I do admit I am raising my expectations, just not to the point where I wouldn't take a D1 FBS team seriously. I still think this team will be much better in a few years once Brohm gets his players. That was my point in case you missed it. But I'm sure after the first two games now some people (the non losers) will be expecting a win against Michigan and then bashing the staff if we lose. For this season, I prefer to be excited and even surprised with outcomes like last night's game instead of merely pacified and comparing ourselves to Alabama. On to the next game!
