Game thread

Coach Hazell taught our guys how to face adversity. He said he wanted to see how the team faced its first adversity. He got to see it on the first play. Great coaching job. Great job Boilers.

If you give up after the first play of the season, there's major problems. Come on...we're not playing Alabama here.

Biggest concern offensively (looking past just this game) is that we are telegraphing a lot of plays - both just from obvious playcalling and just reading Appleby's eyes. And this is not a great defense. That's got to get better or you'll never have a successful offense through a season, especially when we face better defenses through the season.

I know it's the first half of the first game but clean up the bonehead plays and Purdue leads 28-10 potentially at this point.

Hope the Boilers can get a score here to end the half and go up a full score or two scores.

This is the time to learn how to win-- Period.

Coaching makes no sense unless I've had one too many this afternoon.

So we fumble but recover on our 32. :51 on the clock; they have ONE timeout, and WE take a TO?? Then we throw AGAIN on 2nd, then AGAIN on 3rd; don't get the first and allow them to take a TO with :15 setting up a punt and potential return? Am I missing what would have been bad about running the ball on 2nd, having them burn the TO, and taking a knee on 3rd to run out the half?

I don't know how our coach can wear a shirt and jacket in the blazing sun, actually both teams got away from the run .

I didn't like the last drive considering the situation we were in. The offense did make some plays, but Hazell shouldn't have called that TO. Let the clock run out and get to the locker room. We had two near turnovers, in my opinion you run the football and run out the clock. I could accept that play calling if we are playing an FCS opponent at home and had a big lead, but not today.

Lots of criticism and not highlighting the pros.

Pros:
AA deep touch twice
Knox
DL getting push.
Outside of 2 big runs, sharp vs the run
WRs catching most everything coming their way.
O doing a good job of sustaining drives.

Cons:
Execution not perfect. If you watched other and better teams this weekend tho they were sloppy as well
AAs pick - nuff said
Not running the ball enough IMO

If you're down on this team after that half, you were going to be down on this team no matter how they came out and played. IF we sustain this, we will go to a bowl

don't know, I remember a game last year and we did that and he got criticized for being too conservative. N ow I agree w/ being conservative there because no need to go up tempo, we dodged 2 bullets on that drive and were very fortunate.

We have 174 yards passing at halftime. What can you possibly see wrong with passing? There is another half to play, but, so far so good. All you big straw guys need to be thankful we're winning on national TV. Let's watch the rest of the game and be happy with how much better we are,

That was one of the better halves of Purdue football I've seen in a while, especially from the front four.

No margin for error in any aspect and, like PCof02 said, the coaching towards the end of the half was head scratching especially after two consecutive near misses. Our boys are looking like they have that "key"; can't lose what looks like a very winnable road game on a hot day due to coaching errors.

Situational awareness; especially when they get the ball to start the half; why even put yourself in a position to give up the 4 you're up?

Garbage PI call early in that drive or they have 3rd and long. Then garbage no fumble call.

Garbage!
