Will be interesting to see what CJB comes up with for MSU?
They have a legit Heisman candidate at RB in Walker and if MSU watched the Wisc tape, I think you'll see Tucker run, run, run and then run some more, hoping to wear down the PU DL and let Walker break a couple big ones. Same thing happened at ND.
With Nailor likely out, that hurts the MSU passing game which is mediocre (as was Wisconsin's......).

I think MSU will play bend, don't break D. Probably give up a lot of completions and yards between the 20s, but not get beat over the top. Brohm will have to use the short passing game and try to find some way to have a little success on the ground to get in 2nd and 3rd n managable.

Not sure Bell will have a Chris Daniels like performance the last time MSU came in as the No.5 team, but if they're going to focus on Bell, AOC has to be able to spread the ball around and find the open guy like he did against Neb.

Their DE over left tackle leads the nation in pressures..

This is a good set up for us to upset MSU!! Both IU and NEB out gained them in yardage....and should have won those games. They will be coming off a huge win and going on the road! This should be a 24-20 type win for the Boilers!!! Brohm needs to call a good offensive strategy!! Still waiting on the no huddle uptempo offense to be released!! Confident our defense will keep us in this game!!

If memory serves, Chris feasted on MSU with that underneath with that drag route, and Saban's DC simply refused to make any kind of adjustment.

Naturally, Drew being Drew, he said, "if you're going to give that to me all day, I'm going to take it all day". (Chris broke one early for a 51 yard TD.)

21 receptions for 301 yards. Drew was 40/57.

SMDH.

Yeh, I don't think Tucker will let Bell go crazy, but it they shade/double/bracket Bell, Brohm needs to have plan B to get the ball underneath to Shef, Antrhop, RBs out of the backfield and TE delays/seam routes.

I have a different take from the Wisconsin game. Our defense held up fairly well for 2.5 quarters. It was only after the offense kept putting the defense in difficult positions with turnovers did they eventually crack and allow some big runs in the second half. We simply can't turn the ball over multiple times and give MSU multiple opportunities to grab a lead and then run the ball 51 times like Wisconsin did or we are cooked. Keep the Purdue offense on the field, move the ball, and this is a totally different game. Our best defense is a complementary offense.

I remember out-route after out-route after out-route. Probably with a 2nd receiver on his side that cut in while he cut out.

Their run offense vs our run defense scares the hell out of me.
Hope our D. Coordinators have a great scheme to limit KWIII and disguise blitzes and adjustments to smother him as much as possible. Gang tackling, more gang tackling and wrap him up. Stay after him to wear him down.

I'm not sure there's a key other than this.

Anyone here old enough to remember Mark Hermann throwing that out-route to Bart Burrell? What great timing they had.

This is exactly right. The defense was doing fine. It was being on the field because of turnover after turnover that did them in.

And, in theory, this game should go in a different direction considering the following:

PASSING DEFENSE:
TeamGCOMPATTINTPCTYDSAVGTDAVG/G
1Wisconsin8122223554.713205.97165.0
14Michigan State8236377762.624046.412300.5
Also, interestingly, MSU's average yardage differential per game is just 20. Purdue's advantage over its opponents is 72 ypg.

Might have to load the box and put the DBs on an island and hope they don't get beat over the top.
Reed and Nailor for MSU are averaging almost 20 yards per catch. The MSU passing game is limited mostly if not entirely by pass protection issues.

We have to get an early lead to force them to beat us through the air. Hopefully with Horvath back, we can lean on the run game a bit to keep their defense honest.
This entire matchup is gonna come down to our offense like every other game. If this is a 13 point special type of performance we are done. If we can get to 25 points we can start thinking victory. I expect a median performance by their offense to be about 24

Was that the game where MSU had the FG blocked then gave up the onside kick to lose in vintage Spartan fashion? 97?

MSU is last in the BIG giving up 301 ypg passing and 425 ypg in total defense.

MSU is a team with a really good rushing defense, bad passing defense, decent pass rush, and a big play dependent passing attack….with arguably the nations top running back as the bread and butter.

We are beatable if you convert your offensive yards into TDs instead of FGs. Our defense is much better in advanced metrics and efficiency than looking at total yards. Heading into the UM game we were the second highest team in terms of passes attempted against us so yeah we’ve given up a lot of raw yardage. WKU is also the number 1 passing team in the country.

You guys won’t have much success running the ball on us so you will throw a lot. We’ve had a knack for getting key turnovers all year in part due to how much other teams throw the ball against us.

If you guys don’t shoot yourselves in the foot and limit Walker you can win. Easier said than done but doable.

I would like to see us scheme defensively to try and contain (won’t be able to stop) Walker and let Thorne beat us. Would prefer much more single high safety looks with M2M coverage so we can get pads on Walker as soon as possible. This something we didn’t do nearly enough against Wisconsin and we KNEW they were running it - puzzling. MSU offense is far more sophisticated than the badgers but if we can somehow keep walkers avg/rush less than 5 I think we can stay in this and win in Q4.
