I have a different view of the OL's performance. I thought there was way too much pressure on Plummer in the first half. I also think Horvath running over defenders hides some of the OL's deficiencies. They seemed to have settled down a bit in the 2nd half. But the pressure caused inaccuracies from Plummer that left points on the field. And some WR drops also contributed to points left out there.I might have given an A had we not dropped the 2 passes. Seems like we should have scored a few more points.
OL which was my biggest concern, played well for the most part. Run blocking was Ok. Pass blocking needed some work. Surprisingly we were good in short yardage situations.
We made some plays when it mattered. Running game was good enough, but we still have to improve.

Their fans acknowledge the DL as a huge weaknessOregon St. was 2-5 last year, but played tough against some good teams. Definitely won’t be the most talented DL we play this year but they were quick and active. They also stunted and blitzed some which may have caused some breakdowns.
Horvath is good. I wouldn’t say great. He keeps growing on me the more us see him. We can all agree he’s not the quickest back. Anyway, I thought the OL gave the RB’s some room to run. Not a dominant performance in the run game but about what I expected.
Most Purdue would day the same about our DL although we got a ridiculous amount of pressures. I would say that our OL had some positives. Do I think we are going to out the smack down on ND’s defense, no. Do I think we will be able to run for about 100 yards vs most Big10 teams, probably. (If we are committed to balance)Their fans acknowledge the DL as a huge weakness
I don’t think the DL is a weakness at all… demarje Lewis was a nice addition, Lawrence johnson looked like a different guy, Mitchell and Jenkins seemed good… the players and coaches did a great job on the DL.Most Purdue would day the same about our DL although we got a ridiculous amount of pressures. I am not an expert on OSU. Looks to me like they beat Oregon and played Stanford and some other PAC10 teams kinda tough but had a 2-5 record. Their D-line didn’t look like garbage to me. I’m aware the Beavers aren’t a powerhouse either.
Jackson anthrop is a huge win in the sense that he doesn’t suck, but yeah I agree he’s not gonna catch it and leave everyone hugging airWish we would stop the short passes at the line of scrimmage to JA. I get they are essentially a run play, but we don't seem to get much from those plays. Either we don't execute very well or it's just wishful thinking Jackson is going to get respectable yardage. He usually just ends up getting crushed. I get it if you have Rondale Moore out there, but seems like there are better plays for the personnel we have.
Same here. A "C" through most of the game, but the 4th quarter raised the grade to a "B".Was a C through most of the game but we scored the touchdowns when we had to at the end. Really should be more of a b- c+
I didn't realize Oregon State hasn't had a winning record in football since 2013 and Vegas (BetMGM) has their projected wins over/under at 4.5.Oregon St. was 2-5 last year, but played tough against some good teams. I looked at their previous year scores. They were 2-5. You see that and make an assumption. Also take into account some of the scores. Looks like they played some right games and actually beat a ranked Oregon. They’ve beaten Oregon several times in the last few years.I didn't realize Oregon State hasn't had a winning record in football since 2013 and Vegas (BetMGM) has their projected wins over/under at 4.5.
We won and that's great but I didn't see much that would change my opinion that we're probably a 5-7 or 6-6 team at best.
This is where I'm at, too. The first three quarters looked like a first game with inconsistent line play and some squandered scoring opportunities. Bit the fourth quarter was very encouraging. Was a C through most of the game but we scored the touchdowns when we had to at the end. Really should be more of a b- c+
that play has not worked since the tiller days. it is a wasted play which at best gains nothingWish we would stop the short passes at the line of scrimmage to JA. Yeah, I like Anthrop. But he's just not quick enough for screen plays. Where was Mershawn Rice? And wonder if Sheffield will see the field for Notre Dame?Agreed on the wasted play. Tiller used the bubble screen, which definitely wasn't fooling anyone in the late Tiller years. The play Im seeing now it's just like they throw it out there and hope the defense falls down?

Knox is now on the staff. 2022 and beyond should start to see some RB’s that fit more of of a Knox type runner. We haven’t seen J. Cross yet. What's sad is that Brohm inherited better RBs and QBs than he has been able to recruit.
Knox, Jones, Blough and Sindelar would without question be starters on this team.
how many times did it work in this game? none. it has not worked consistently for years. i still say that for purdue it is a wasted playDisagree. Almost every team (college and pro) runs variations of a quick pass to a wr for a quick hitter.
What is supposed to happen is you get 2 wr to the same side. Defense plays one cb soft and one press (or closer to LOS). Quick pass to a wr and the second wr picks off the close defender. Clean pass and good block should net 3-5 yards. If the wr makes the second defender miss it could go for a longer play. In our case we were either not getting a clean, accurate pass to the wr or not getting a clean block. The play is a fine play to run often but we must execute much better.
The only time that is really a bad play call is if both defenders are close to the LOS or they are bringing a safety or lb into the area to cover it.
We were just not executing. Go back and look at Anthrop’s freshman year. He can absolutely do those things and be a weapon for this team.

Anthrop is a decent 3rd or 4th option but he had 9 touches and I'm not sure how many times he was targeted (at least one more when he dropped the TD pass). He's also returning punts and kicks. Sure he's pretty reliable but he's not a playmaker so why design plays to get the ball in his hands in space? I guess we don't have anyone any better?Yeah, I like Anthrop.
