Not true. Lots of Painter apologists say that when Painter recruits marginal athletes.
The entire fake news campaign was based on Smith and Loyer "not playing like freshman"
That was part of facade. At least Steve Lappas could see Smith was playing stupid as a PG. About time he was called out. All I heard from Painter was "shoot more threes". How about stop dribbling into traps and leaving your feet with zero outs?
Duke just got beat by a high IQ coach. Athleticism didn't win this game. It happens

No we don’t have athletes compared to Tennessee, they are fully matured athletes. Can you imagine how many times Loyer would get knocked to the ground? But Tennessee starts 4 seniors and A 5 star sophomore. Very mature physically. We need Renn and Furst to mature and hope the guard court does as well

Nope. Duke was a disorganized mess of top athletes in November. We were already a well oiled machine of highly skilled, mediocre athletes playing near their ceiling.

They made the decision to take away our only special player, and then our average players choked under the NCAA one and done pressure.
Highly skilled because Zach put us in that position and our players were hitting shots. After a long year. These young guns got wormed down by better athletes. Sometimes those athletes don't always win games as we saw in Duke.

Everyone is worn down. That’s an excuse. Tennessee is worn down, and they lost their starting point guard. They still have the team length and athleticism to lock down a bunch of lottery picks.
To be fair they have leaders on that team our team lacks that leadership. They're not tremendously athletic, but have aged players that play smart and gritty
Do they have 2 freshman guards? Is the SEC as physical is the big ten? Maybe their coach is able to adjust and painter has trouble.
They’re a lot longer, stronger and more athletic than we are.
Did you even watch Hunter at Butler? Streaky at best and BU fans were begging for him to come off the bench—on a 14-18 season. Nice kid but took the year off.
