yes i remember the timing, but that isn't really the issue. We know how the ending was even though the clock had a few ticks on it. The issue is how important that was back then and yet so trivial in comparison to things today. Truly there has been a shift in how we hold politicians accountable. As a result we got many skits of Gerald Ford falling... I had a brother-in-law that was very liberal at the time and I recall him telling me how close the country was to falling apart at that time....if only he could see it now.
President Ford was always pretty good-natured about being made fun of......including with his golf game. It sure didn't hurt Chevy Chase's career.
I will say this......one of the funniest moments I ever saw on a golf telecast was back during the old Crosby Pro-Am on CBS. I don't recall the year, but President Ford was being shown off one of the tees.....might have been 14 at Pebble Beach. Gallery lined both sides off the tee......President Ford takes his back swing, and then it seemed like he didn't even get half-way yet to the ball, and he is already yelling FORE LEFT!!, and a dead pull low-hook just has everyone on the left diving for cover. Several seconds of silence on the air......and then.....Oh Dear! Not one of his best.......or something like that. I fell a little guilty about writing this, but I was just dying hysterically when I saw that.
