I am up to here with fans that say stupid stuff like "refs didn't affect the outcome" or "refs aren't why we lost".

Absolute horseshit. Fans need to stand up for our guys who are getting molested by the refs in every game for the past 3 weeks. The refs ABSOLUTELY determine the outcome when they are this bad.

Leal absolutely should have been ejected. Reneau absolutely fouled Smith on the loose ball...no call and IU gets an AND1. Purdue was up by one at that point and the wheels fell off. Reffing has an impact on morale, and at that point morale was shot.

You will never convince me that there isn't something going on with the refs and Purdue.

28-3 runs aren't ref related. Sorry but they aren't.

If you're saying that they're not the fault of the refs, I agree, but simply inaccurate to say that a big run can't be 'ref related'. IU got away with some stuff, which isn't surprising at home when they're down at half on a CBS game, and Purdue absolutely lost their shit. Is that the refs fault? Absolutely not, this team has to be better. Did the refs play a part? 100%

Not the refs when you get bounced like that. Braden was bad, Purdue's lack of size showed in their inability to get shots off and created turnovers. Refs impacted the game likely more for IU, but come on Purdue lost based on their effort, overall poor play, a good game by IU and bad decisions. Hard to swallow when you get bounced by your rival, but blaming the refs is ridiculous in this case,

I disagree! And I’m tired of fans saying the refs caused us to lose. Everytime we lose, you always blame the refs. It’s always the ref’s fault and never the coach’s fault or the players fault!

Painter has been coaching long enough to know what to expect from each ref and design his game plan accordingly.

Players like Tkr and smith and Loyer have played enough games to know what to expect from the refs and what will be called and what they can get away with.

Wade Boggs was a very successful baseball player. Why? Because he studied what each umpire would call a strike and a ball. If he believed the ump was going to call a pitch a ball, he wouldn’t swing at it. He made a lot of walks and also hits as a result.

I’m sad Purdue lost. There were some bad calls. There’s always going to be bad calls. Purdue is never going to get all the calls. Players know this. Coaches know this! Rather than complaining, what they should be doing is developing a plan In anticipation of what they know they can get away with.

Refs are usually very consistent in how they manage and control a game. Sure some calls may seem ticky tacky. But it’s the refs’ way of controlling the game. If they miss a call, they usually make up for it with another missed call on the opposite side.

What I get tired of is people always blaming the refs when we lose. Those same people never thank the refs when we win! When we win, there is never any mention of the refs helping us win. When we win it’s always because of how great and awesome we are.

But when we lose, it’s always the ref’s fault. You can’t have it both ways!

If you know so much about the game and you believe you could call a better game, why don’t you become a ref?

The refs didn't directly cause the loss. It appeared they may have swallowed the whistle in the second half. The reality is that when D is good, there is fouling going on. It is the nature of the beast. If I'm behind I don't want quick whistles and if ahead, I do. Purdue's problems were self inflicted as far as turnovers in that they lost their poise something that hasn't been a problem for a long time. What led to losing the poise...a previous turnover and another...and another. Refs always affect the game, but generally not enough to be the difference in outcomes. Had there been a quicker whistle on some events, Purdue still needed to shut down the lane to close it out. I'm just disappointed in the lack of poise...

Painter is fed up too. This is the most criticism he's ever leveled at the refs.

What was particularly frustrating for Painter — across multiple games — is the lack of consistency with the officiating, especially with the use of replay.

"I think if I reffed a game, I think I would mess up a lot of s***," Painter said. "I really believe that. I ref in practice and I mess up things all the time. But you let me go to that monitor with a TV, I'm not messing that one up. You let me rewind four or five times, I'm going to get those. But I think our rules our skewed. I don't think they understand basketball plays."

He is right. We have all watched enough games to know Matt typically has a laid back approach with many wishing he were on the refs more. Yesterday he was very upset and so why was that? The second a foul was called on Trey, but unsure who it was on, I quickly told Kim it looked like a cylinder foul and she said she thought it was on Trey. I didn't want to see high knees since he had ref'd the two nights before across the country. Purdue had problems separate from the refs that need improvement as do the refs...

This wasn't a roster issue unless you're referring to the mental toughness of our top guys tonight.
Purdue needs another big, I realize the Frosh Jacobsen got hurt but I think it would have been wise to bring another in, I realize Coach probably thought Berg could contribute a little. Also, Braden is worn out, a capable backup would have been nice as well.

He was more pissed though in players, he usually doesn’t call them out yesterday post game he called out both Smith and TKR for having poor games, I also can see he likes Woodson as a person, sort of called out IU’s fans for trashing on him daily.

I don’t disagree but a backup big and PG don’t win the game last night. Stars have to be better.

That's on CMP... if he doesn't stand up to the refs, then this is what happens. Gene would have got run that game.

If that's Matt getting upset, then he needs to review tapes of GK. How you can watch/coach that entire game & not get T'd' up is beyond me. You also can't wait until the game is out of hand to get on the refs. He should have been on them from the "foot to the nuts" no call to begin with.

Absolutely this. I don't think we win if IU plays that way any way but would it have sustained both ways with a couple of different calls? No way of knowing either way. I'm thinking specifically about the play where Braden was stripped by Rice which led to their 6th and 7th points of the half and tied the game. We didn't see a great angle but it sure looked like Rice got the arm and not the ball. A foul called there and a bucket by Purdue might have settled things down.

We didn't lose because of the refs, but the officiating was complete horseshit. The administration and Bobinski better do something or I am not watching this shit anymore. Even the TV announcers were speechless when the weasel Leal wasn't ejected. If that is not some sort of conspiracy, I don't know what is. Leal himself was shocked. IU played good defense but fouled relentlessly with no calls. The foul call against TKR with the elbow was one of the dumbest I've ever witnessed. He made a basketball move with Galloway sticking his face in his chest. College sports has become a shit show.

Again, there was no room to bring anyone in this year. I certainly am a portal advocate but unless you're to just start revoking scholarships over it, which you can't really do, there was no portal for us this year.

Now, next year there is.

I would love for someone who knows the rules better than I do to comment, but I agree with your assessment. I think the cylinder rule is still in place, although it’s rarely called, and I don’t know how you can penalize the offensive player for making a basketball play when the defensive player is clearly infringing upon his space and freedom of movement.

The officiating has been horrible league-wide. It wasn't just against us, and it wasn't just one game.

A recent example is Oregon - Wisconsin. In that game Wisconsin was in complete control. It was like clockwork...Wisconsin drove the lane, foul on Oregon. On the other end Wisconsin was able to body up on D without a whistle. Fast forward to the final five minutes in regulation, and this all flipped. It's almost like the zebras forgot what that shiny silver thing was hanging around their neck. The wild reversal in how the game was called up to that point absolutely allowed Oregon to get back into it.

Oh, and by the way? I hate Wisconsin and was rooting for Oregon, but I almost couldn't believe my eyes with the officiating. That was some awful shit.

FWIW, personally I lean to more emotion just because that is me somewhat. I'm aware that most humans in the "flight versus fight" take flight and so what does that tell you? Matt believes that his point is stronger when he expresses it less. Wooden and Crum were both laid back. Bob Macy used to say...coach your personality. I do think "most" coaches are fiery. My bigger concern was that high knees watched the undercut with a good angle and did nothing...same when Reneu jumped on Braden. Obviously high knees was going to lean to physical play on his third day in a row across the country. Yes, Gene would have made his presence known.

I started to watch that game and Oregon was down 16-20 points it seemed and so I didn't watch it. MInutes later Kim yells down over the balcony and asks if I'm watching that game and I said no, it wasn't much of a game and she said it was about a 3 point differential and so I quickly flipped the channel. I think we all wish for more consistency, but there are variables working against that...making it difficult to achieve
