for discussion: if NE can fix that ugly jumper and become a threat from the outside, I see him as a very similar player as GRob3 when he was at Meatchicken.
NE is a good athlete, very good rebounder and on ball defender, just needs to round out his perimeter game on offense.

The kid plays hard whenever he is given an opportunity...and, he has genuine skills. He has the potential to be an elite defender with his size, length and quickness, and, he is a guy that could be a nightmare by posting up smaller guards at some point. He has displayed the ability to rebound the ball also, especially on the offensive end...and did it twice last night with two huge buckets off of three huge offensive rebounds.

I think what inevitably happens is that he is guarded by a 3 or a 4 from opposing teams...which causes a whole sort of other nightmare for other teams. You wouldn't have the kind of help down on the block you'd like to have for interior defense and help but also Nojel would almost have free reign to dribble/drive around most of those type of players.

Small sample size but his 2-7 on threes and 7-20 free throw shooting is what is keeping him from getting more minutes right now - especially at the end of games. If he gets that corrected then he has an incredibly bright future.

He needs to work with whoever Zo worked with before his Jr year.

You beat me to it.

And I agree, there will likely never be another Big Dog.
Eastern is a combination of Raphael Davis , Mike Robinson let's hope he can develope a little Cuonzo Martin and improve his jumper.

I have thought for awhile that Eastern is Raphael. I think he will be solid on D, but will struggle to be consistent on offense.

GRIII was more athletic, I believe, but Eastern is a better ball handler and passer. I think that Eastern is the better fit for Purdue.

I find it very difficult to take you seriously as a poster when you use cutesy nicknames like this even in posts where you're trying to generate serious basketball discussion
How about POTFH....you like that one?

Personally, I really don't like the MeatChicken name, but I like all Purdue peeps. We just beat Michigan on their home floor. We are all Michigan fans this weekend!

Man hold the phone; I don't think GRobIII is more althletic. I don't even think it is close; Eastern is way more athletic than GRobIII in my opinion. Eastern is also way more capable on offense than Raphael Davis. Davis was a great defender but with a few exceptions he almost always left you wanting more on offense. I think tonight showed what Eastern can do for us when given more minutes and more opportunities. I for one hope we get to see many more such opportunities in the future as the season progresses.

Eastern gonna be nasty for us. Ray Davis could not move, defend or rebound like this as a freshman. If we get four years I could see Nojel as our best perimeter defender since Kramer. Lofty goals with guys like Ray D and Mathias but none defended like Eastern can as a freshman.

My daughter's sorority had shirts made up for dad's day that said 'Michigan our Bitch again'. I kind of thought it was catchy.

I like the Raphael Davis comparison......as I think the kid is going to be a defensive monster. When you look at him on D, he is way advanced for some of the frosh I have seen @ Purdue over the years. Think of what he could be like in 2-3 years!

My new comparison for NE is Kelsey Barlow. Similar size, both good athletes, good defenders and rebounders.
Would still like to see NE get a few more isolation plays where he can get going downhill towards the rim and either finish, get fouled or kick out.

Minus the ball racks!

Me too

2 completely different players. GRob3 and NE. GRob3 went to the pros way to early and could have become a great player at Michigan. He was on the verge of greatness and he got greedy only to be nowhere in the pros. You'd think he didn't need the $$$ because of his Dad's $80 million deal 20 years ago. NE getting better every game and if this keeps up, he will be pushing PJ for more minutes later in the season. Would love to see that as much as I love PJ. Those 2 offensive rebounds last with put backs won the game, no matter how great Carsen, Dakota and others played. Without them, we are down 6-8 points and I doubt we climb back into it. GO BOILERS. Loving the ride this year!!!

I'd rather see you compare him to a 6'6 PG, because that's what he is and wants to be. None of your comparisons are players that play his position!
