I usually don’t like to pile on, but I couldn’t resist this quote from the Hazell presser notes: "I want to look at the numbers and say ‘OK, here are the things that we’re effective and efficient at"

Well, here’s a look at how PU has ranked among FBS teams in some drive efficiency stats (125 teams in 2013 & 2018 the last two seasons). Note: These stats only account for drives against FBS teams & ones that are relevant to the outcome of the game (criteria is here: fbsdrivestats).

Offense Rank (2013, 2014, 2015):

-Yards per play: 119, 119, 119
-Yards per rush: 122, 30, 118
-Yards per pass: 117, 123, 117
-Yards per drive: 121, 115, 117
-% of available yards gained on drive: 121, 112, 117
-3 & out %: 111, 116, 119
-TO%: 120, 109, 101
-Points per drive: 121, 100, 97

Defense Rank (2013, 2014, 2015):

-Plays per drive: 120, 99, 114
-Yards per play: 106, 80, 105
-Yards per drive: 118, 91, 119
-% of available yards allowed on drive: 119, 101, 116
-3 & out %: 121, 85, 97
-TO%: 32, 93, 46
-Points per drive: 120, 105, 97

What is the team effective/efficient at?
-Better than avg at forcing TOs on defense.
-The team was efficient at running last year (30th in yds/rush) but hasn't been able to sustain that success this season.
-Neither the offense nor the defense has ranked above 80th in any of the other efficiency metrics the last 3 seasons.

It appears the product on the field on Saturdays is no bricks higher from when the staff took over in 2013.

If the coach stays, I definitely won't get season tickets and its got to hurt recruiting . Only one way to save the program , is too wipe the slate clean and get a new coach , as early as possible. While Hazell may be a great guy, he can't win , we know it, he knows it, so lets move on. These numbers I just read are embarrassing.

Assuming that if they fire him that there will be an immediate bump in ticket sales is flawed. It will take years to get those fans back in the stadium.

My son could call plays on madden that would generate better offense than this. Truly horrifically poor coaching.

The players' dads could coach them like they did in pee wee football and not do any worse than this.

Especially if the Non Revenue King is making the hire yet again.

So true. Plus, people tend to look at empty seats and see that as the potential "cash grab" available when a new coach is hired. That's not necessarily true as more than a few of those were paid for and just aren't being used. Like you said, all the fans lost over the last 10 years aren't going to just call up the JPC office on signing day and get back on the ticket list.

On a related note, whoever thought up the notion of "varsity club" with points and needing to continue your support every year to maintain your position for seating, both in the sport in question, as well as tying it to hoops seating, etc. was a freaking genius. To a degree, many fans feel precluded from exercising their option to spend their money elsewhere for a year, because there a sizable ramifications associated with that.

but at least a new coach would keep the present season ticket holders and probably a few who dropped them before this year
True, but I was referring to the people that have posted the simple math results of $50/ticket x 30k empty seats x 6-7 games and shouting "I've got it!" like George Costanza devising the plan for the roommate switch.

Anew coach with a better product on the field will drive fans back pretty quick! We're all hungry for some form of success.................a .500 season and a competitive team would be all it would take in year one...............

We appear to have people that can't do basic math! 25k ave of empty seats times $35-$40( seven home games) a ticket equals an easy buyout! Do the math!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!If these idiots can't figure that out, then god help us all..........................

That may be too complicated for some people. And yes, the games aren't going to sell out with a new coach but like Palmcoast said, fans are hungry and if Purdue starts winning again they will come out.
