What is funny is that as soon as it was announced, the MSU trolls invaded this site. I suspect it is really just some IU peegster in disguise, but is comical nonethless

I actually love those stats you supplied man. Sounds like he can make it to the big games but then chokes every year.

I'm actually a Rutgers & VCU fan and this was posted for being the strangest basketball thread on the Internet. They'll be top 5 period and probably 3rd most likely to win it all. This is a strange board. Good luck to you all, you all certainly have better basketball than Rutgers, but you are far from realistic.

Ya I'm still pissed over the big ten letting shit programs in the big ten....

I gotta ask. Do you really think A. J. is gonna be around next year? Or is this another, like Swanigan, total example of self-delusion. We haven't gotten a McDonald's All-American in how long? The last one was Mike Robinson. But this time it was gonna be different. We have to look at reality, and not just what we want.

You guys thinking A. J. gonna stay... it's just more silly wishful thinking. Just because you want something, no matter how badly you want it, doesn't make it likely. And I have to believe that it's very unlikely that A. J. will be a Boiler next year.

Why would he stay?

He made the big jump this year in terms of consistency. Is it realistic to think that he's gonna make another big jump like that? Really? Think with your head and not with your heart?
Even if he doesn't make the NBA, is whatever his major is, is he gonna make more that the hundreds of thousands of dollars he'd make overseas?
You keep talking about improving more to prepare for the NBA, which he does somewhat need to do. Why can't he do that playing overseas or in the developmental league and still be getting paid, not having to worry about classes, and playing full-time in an uptempo NBA type style?
He has to know, as good as he is, that Haas is ready to step in and replace him.

Why would he stay?

Now, he might stay, just might.... but be realistic, the odds are small that he will stay.

From a basketball perspective I don't blame you (well except Maryland who is great at b-ball). Football though... We've been to a half dozen more bowls than you the last decade. Either way I'm just a fan not a player, so not much I can do about it. This thread is still absurd.

Of all coaches who have coached in 5 or more final fours Izzo has the second worst record. Granted that is only 12 coaches, so that is pretty good to be one of 12. Of the 17 years Izzo has only had 2 players, that I can think of, who left after 1 or 2 years for the NBA, Randolph & Harris? I guess you can read into that whatever you want, but that would not appear to be a very good record for players wanting to enter the NBA quickly? How about 5 star players not really panning out, or taking 4 years to be decent? Whatever, I feel that the main issue is two fold, first is too honest and blunt with recruits, especially high level recruits, they tend to have large egos that need to be stroked, see Tom Crean, who interesting, only has 1 friend in the coaching ranks in the BIG10, hello Izzo. I think the biggest problem is the cultural mantra of what Purdue basketball stands for "defense lives here". I understand that you need defense to win, but if that is what your whole persona is perceived to be, by recruits, other teams, other coaches, and if it is a common knowledge that if you don't play good defense or practice defense very hard, you won't get to play, what affect does this have on recruiting? Think about this what is MSU known for, crashing the boards, rebounding, playing an aggressive style offense (supposedly) but this is what it is perceived to be, what sounds more interesting to you? A few other things I noticed while watching tourney games, what is the best way to break a press, aggressively move the ball up the court and attack the defense, or slowly pass the ball into the corner, take a few dribbles and what to get trapped, or pass the ball backwards? And for people who think you can play without a point guard, or top notch two guard, who can drive by other players and create shots for the other players, or score, of the sweet 16 teams, how many of them, regardless of the style of offense they ran, didn't have either one or the other? The answer to that, would be NONE.

Good to hear from a fan from another fanbase. The vast majority of fans on this site are like this. They think Painter is great and the best coach in the B1G. It's sad really. A few of us are actually PURDUE fans, not just lovers of the coach. But there aren't too many of us. I have a feeling that our number is growing tonight though.

You're a Painter fan, not a Purdue fan. I want Purdue to win regardless of the head coach, You want Painter to stay at Purdue regardless of the mediocre results. So pathetic.

Painter is no world beater but he is an above average bench coach. Now with that said he is a below average recruiter and for whatever reason cannot sprinkle in a 5 star every 3 years or so. I may get bashed for this but that can't remain the same for much longer if painter wants to remain at purdue. At this point I truly think I'd want a lesser coach aka Martin than someone like painter. It is what it is very frustrating and obviously purdue has no problem remaining mediocre in sports sigh.... Rant over

I had a helluva lot more fun watching this team grow this season than you did, that's for sure. Most of the true fans did the same.

You did, because you are content with a 9 seed. Congrats! They did it! I expect a lot more out of our team after 10 years. Obviously you are content with a mediocre coach. I am not.

Underlining problem he has zero contacts in the FW market anymore. Needless to say EP, RB, WJ and the list grows. He can't continue to be the coach that recruits below to avg. and coach avg. to below. Bring in a coach that will let the players play instead of controlling every play!

There are only a few people like him that sear they have all the answers (yet somehow aren't making millions coaching somewhere) but are pretty narrow minded. IT's actually gotten quite comical to watch them get all in a tizzy when something goes awry and oddly disappear when things go well.

Purdue's future is bright and it really is kinda too bad they can't see it. They would rather rant and rave on a forum than take an objective look at things and the future of the program all because they have some stupid agenda.

Poprudy you made some very valid points there. I feel he is too old school and controlling no 5 star with an ego wants any part of that imo

I certainly wasn't unhappy with making the tournament and finishing in the top tier in the conference. Realistically, that was better than most, including yourself I'm sure, predicted. And with young talent to boot. Now if you want to stew about it and be an eternal dick on this board then that is your choice, but it wasn't a bad season and could have been better if you throw out some early lackluster play.

We win this coming year guaranteed! Even with your new great class as you believe!

Watching them grow to what a first round bust? Lmao! We had a lesser tier talent team last year and we go to final four. U had what u call an amazing season of growth for a bearcat stomped u out lol

Grew up a duke and they smacked your ass and you thought you belonged In the FF! Oh my bad worst FF loss In history you did make record books this year!

th

Yeah, doesn't PU have a better record against Duke than MSU?

I grew up in West Lafayette, a 2-minute walk from Mackey when it was new. Saw games in its predecessor, Lambert and hooped there many times and the Co-Rec.

Am a Purdue fan for life, but have long lived in Michigan. Yes, I hoped Biggie would be a Boiler. And yes, gloating MSU trolls are jerks. Like all trolls (IU ...). Maybe even ours too.

That said, I have nothing but respect for Izzo. I can see why Biggie, Dawson, the Harrises et al. chose his program. Give him his due; his numbers don't lie. I'm sorry.

I very much like who OUR team has coming back. After 2 tough-to-stomach years, I saw Boiler attitude. Losing AJ, of course, would be huge. And we need at PG.

I am still hoping for good things. Go Boilers!

That's bc you've played in nothing but bottom-feeder football Conferences for your entire existence. Not hard to win six games when you're playing in the garbage A10 & Big East.

We, on the other hand, have been in arguably the greatest football Conference as a charter member (and the initiator and leader of it's foundation) for 120 years. And until 1975 only one Big Ten school could even go to a Bowl, The Rose. No other Bowl participation was allowed.

Saying that, you've been to 10 total in your 145 year program, and we've been to 15 since 1975. 10/145, 15/40. So, there's that.

Regardless, I have always been a fan of the Rutgers addition, but if you keep this shit up, coming to our board to kick us when we're down, then you can GFY.

Agreed on all. MSU is the closest thing the B1G has to a true "Blue Blood" right now. I for one am not surprised. It will be fun going against him for the next couple, and will only deepen our hate for the MSU Green.

I have high hopes for next year, and I am sure we will be fine. I am hopeful that AJH comes back, and I feel that he will. We have EVERYONE returning save JO, and we have 2 scholies available to fill our needs.

Swangian was not a "make or break" for next season. He would have been an incredible get, but overall we will be extremely SOLID.

Life is good, my Boilermaker brethren. LIFE IS GOOD!

(now if AJH leaves I may have to off myself, but let's hope for the best.
