Def Coordinator

What's the conventional wisdom RE a new HC and his new DC not having a relationship beforehand?

I think Diaco is absolutely great, but wouldn't we rather Brohm bring in a guy he at least somewhat knows, or has worked with previously??

I personally want him to hire whoever he wants...with or without a background with whoever it is. Hire the guys he feels most strongly about. Hire the guys most capable of producing a fast turn around.

I would take the better recruiter. Especially if we are going to be work in progress.

I know there is no way of getting him but I wish we could get someone like tosh lupoi from Alabama. Young and one of the best recruiters in the country. He's a rising star.

I think Diaco would be a great hire and with Brohm obviously being more centered to the offensive side, Diaco may like the idea of having a bit more freedom on the defensive side at Purdue.

That said, the DC at WKU under Brohm did a great job adjusting and making the defense a pretty stout unit. If I remember correctly, they probably played Alabama as tough as anyone this year on the defensive side of the ball.

I want Brohm to find a DC that will come in with a lot of energy, bring in players that buy in totally and understand they may be on the field a lot with the offense being brought in, and will scheme to the players they bring in. Brohm is a very smart and patient man...one who I trust will bring in the right guy for HIS staff...and I believe MBob will give him the control and free reign to do so.

Like a Boss says we will hear something on Wednesday. 28 Dec And for those that read my other thread and called me a troll, I look at Holt, and I see has a great relationship with Brohm and also a guy who was a defensive coordinator a USC. Holt is a guy who knws something about building a good defense. and also knows something about recruiting 4/5 star athletes, which would make me happy

Judging from this forum's many posts before I started posting here, some of you fans NEED to be torn down. Your personal attacks are not very productive. and reviewing my posts, I HAVE NOT personally attacked or made fun of any other poster. and looking at our team, it's time some of you also started being realistic and objective rather than being homers. The efforts of the players you love so much didn't exactly produce many victories this year. or last year or the year before that. We should not be praising losing efforts. We almost lost to Nevada. We didn't just lose games this year. We were blown out! In an era when players threaten to boycott games and also demand and go to court to be paid, I believe they are fair game for fans to criticize their performance or lack there of. if they want to be professionals, I believe we should treat them as such and help prepare them for their future professional careers. Life is not a bunch of atta boys and thanks for giving 110%. . Mostly, it's you either produce, or you're fired. As a University of higher learning, we need to teach our athletes that.

The negativity and name calling can be very shocking. Personally I usually take 6-12 months off when I get tired of it. There are only a few guys who actually mean anything by their negativity. Keep on posting.

it's not shocking. I've been part of various sports forums for the past 10-15 years. basically when people have no logical reply to disagree with me, they resort to name calling and dissing the messenger, and not addressing the message.

Until the internet came along...I had no idea there were so many negative Purdue fans, and that shocked me then and still shocks me now. I wish they would be positive instead, but it is what it is.

Any chance Purdue goes after Bob Diaco now he is fired at UConn?

I am not sure why we would go after Diaco. They have a horrible recruiting class and he would offer nothing for the immediate future. Taking the former WKU DC is an ok hire. We really could use a big name or a good recruiter somebody that could possibly help us flip some recruits. If we can't find that, then the former WKU DC is fine because he did a really good job there. We are throwing money around, so it is time to bring some big time recruiters in.

Was Diaco a bad recruiter before UCONN?

You do realize that the STUDENT-athletes (I made sure to highlight student for you) sign what essentially amounts to a contract with their scholarship. Unless that student-athlete chooses to leave or commits an offense that allows the breaking of that scholarship (arrests or conduct detrimental to the University), you can't get rid of a kid for losing. You do realize that is exactly the reason the new AD was brought in and the reason that new AD fired Hazell and was able to hire what was widely regarded as the best P5 hire this season.

You are correct that you haven't personally made any insults towards any one but what you have done is personally call out young men who have battled and fought to the best of their abilities representing Purdue. If a player clearly gives lack of effort, there is mainly two reasons: he has either given up on himself or he has given up on his coach. Clearly with Parker, it was shown that the players had given up on Hazell. Had Purdue had any depth on both lines and any experience in the secondary, Purdue may have been able to win 2 or 3 of their final 6 games under Parker. If you couldn't see the clear improvement in effort and scheme under Parker, then as I said in a previous post...you don't understand football in any depth that can contribute to worthwhile discussion beyond your clearly lacking perspective.

is Purdue a Most school? or does Purdue follow the typical path of offering a 4 year scholarship one year at a time ? I was calling out the process not the players. I don't know how many times I've heard posters say we lost because of a lack of depth. We had just as many players as our opponents did. It was not a lack of depth that caused our problems. it was a lack of strength and development. We had many players who were on our team who were physically not ready to play. Many were redshirting to add weight and muscle. or they suffered injuries.

I watched the majority of Parker's 6 games from a TV, The kids were motivated and played their hearts out trying to win. Yes , I saw "IMPROVEMENT" over Hazell. But I didn't see a team with the talent to win any of those games. We were clearly outmatched. Our offense improved, because we scrapped the running game. Our defense looked worse and worn out.

as far as players staying and leaving, I was under the impression that a player receives a 4 year scholarship that is reviewed and renewed each year. That's the policy at schools I'm familiar with. I personally sign one of those annual agreements. Has that policy changed at Purdue? I know very few coaches terminate a scholarship for poor performance on the field. it's bad public relations and bad for future recruiting, but happens in basketball every year. There is a lot of precedent when a new coach is hired, he may decide to terminate that scholarship.

I didn't say Brohm should kick players off the team because of lack of talent. I did say he should recruit more talented players than Hazell and his assistants recruited. and I will be disappointed in Brohm if he recruits the same level of recruits that Hazell and his assistants recruited.

Do anyone know when or if Coach Brohm will bring any coaches from WKU to Purdue (Holt-DC; Barclay-RB; Levine-Spec Team; Brian Brohm-QB and Co-OC)?

Probably in the next few days. The previous staffs contracts end today, so Purdue may be waiting for them to run their course. Probably some asinine NCAA rule about the amount of coaches you can have on staff at any time.

Bruce Feldman reporting Tony Levine is on board as Co-OC/TE coach & STC.

I could start talking about some of my other job experiences, like when I was the program manager for the national optical fiber backbone of the internet. I'm sure that will divert his attention. Or we could repost that picture of that healthy Purdue pharmacy major. I'm sure she could regain his attention and focus.

Well than start another thread and talk all the politics you want. This is about the Defensive Coordinator. And unless Hillary or Trump are going to be the next DC, it has no point in here.

I didn't introduce the topic.
